Overview of Research

• The initial research has shown that there is a limited amount of specialist advice and support. The services that do offer this are oversubscribed. This type of advice and support will be required by the residents with complex needs (within the claimant categories) when UC is introduced.

• The IT provision within the city is in excess of the amount first thought. Some development may be required but approx. 354 PC’s are available across the city and a large majority of these units have open access. The ones that don’t are potentially prepared to offer this service.

• There appears to be a lack of budgeting support and money advice in general. This is an area that is easily developed and would meet the needs of the framework.

• Training provision on the whole is reasonable. Varying the locations of this support may be an area for development but the provision within Derby is good.

• Although Derby is not UC ready, provision on the whole is good. Co-ordination of provision will go a long way.
