Lee’s Summit’s first Oktoberfest was held in 1989 and has grown to welcome more than 70,000 festival goers to the community each year.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Chamber’s Oktoberfest, which begins September 26, from 5–11 p.m. and continues September 27, from 10 a.m.–11 p.m. The carnival remains open from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. Kids Street, arts and crafts, authentic German meals, beer and brat tents, Biergarten, carnival, continuous live entertainment, Dog & Baby Contests, Home-Brew Beer Tasting Event, Rootbiergarten, German dancers, and much more throughout the weekend.

Oktoberfest would not be complete without the excitement and entertainment in the Biergarten. The Biergarten is the place to hang out for food, music, dancing and a lot of crazy fun! German meals are served in the Biergarten beginning Friday evening from 5–9 p.m. and Saturday evening from 4–9 p.m.

Sports fan? Make sure to stop by the Sport-zelt (sports tent) sponsored by the Rob Ellerman Real Estate Sales Team and Prime Lending, a Plains capital company, and catch up on all the big games.

Three stages of entertainment are ongoing throughout the festival: The Main Stage, The Children’s Stage, sponsored by Steppin’ Out-The Studio, and The Community Stage, sponsored by Amtrak.

Kids Street features face painting, pony rides, craft projects, Rootbiergarten, sponsored by Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic School, and many other child-oriented activities.

The juried Arts and Crafts Fair features artists displaying their original

Saddle up in the Biergarten for the new Peoples’ Choice Home-Brew Beer Contest, sponsored by Apex Brew Wares, to taste the refreshing creations of our local home brewers! More than 30 participants will be serving up samples of their best brews from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday in the Biergarten. Do you think you can tell a difference between a commercial brew and a home brew? Think again…you’ll be surprised. To attend the 2-hour tasting event, register at lsoktoberfest.com. Participants will have the opportunity to sample more than 30 beers and vote for their favorites. The purpose of the Ambassador Committee is to recruit new members to the Chamber, serve as official hosts at events and develop a positive awareness of the Chamber in the community through goodwill.

The committee oversees the annual membership drive held each October, as well as plans for the annual VIP Reception for prospective Chamber members. Ambassador volunteers serve as greeters at the monthly luncheons and are often times called upon to emcee ribbon cuttings.

Monthly meetings are held at the Chamber Office the first Wednesday of each month at noon. Meetings are open to any chamber member interested in helping with the Chamber’s recruiting efforts. Anyone in a sales-related business will find this committee to be beneficial in meeting community business owners and building new relationships.

Lisa Pycior, Cartridge World-Lee’s Summit serves as 2014 Ambassador Committee Chair, alongside co-chair, Sheila Clark, Baird Group Real Estate. To sign up to participate on this committee, contact Cathy Young [email protected].
