WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 28/2015 9 September 2015

Kia ora,

By golly, our little beauties did us proud when Sir and Lady Avery came to Waihi East School, along with the Seven

Sharp Team. On the day it was an honor to hear our children’s words and total respect for such incredible people. They

showed amazing interest in the LifePod, making our fundraising more real and urgent. To date $1082.00 has been raised. A

stunning effort from a school of our size. If you missed our segment on Seven Sharp, it is available to view on our website.

Check us out, maybe with a box of tissues, because our school community came across as stunning! During the final week of

term, Room Nine will have a special assignment cooking lunch for our school. This will be a LifePod fundraiser. Keep an ear to

the ground, an eye to the sky for smoke signals because a mean meal will be sold.

A massive thank you to Team East Whanau for our disco on Thursday. This has to be the best disco we have run due to

their energy, enthusiasm and planning. Congratulations on your efforts and a huge thank you to our tamariki for their stellar

behaviour and respect. Together We Rise Above and Shine!

Briar and I had the pleasure of presenting our Accelerated Literacy Learning to kura in Hamilton on Friday. Our ideas,

improved data and thoughts were a huge hit! Briar has been leading a reading intervention within the school and I have had

the cool job of teaching a group of selected tamariki. I am very proud of the growth in achievement, the way our teachers

have been very flexible with Briar’s new ideas and plan, and Briar’s leadership. Definitely worth a Principals sticker Briar!

Sadly this week the Board accepted Sharon Pickering’s resignation from her teaching position, effective from the end

of this term. Sharon is a very talented classroom teacher and coach. She will be missed by the school community. A

presentation will be made to Sharon on the final assembly of this term. Please come along and thank her for her massive

contribution to our school. An appointment will be made for term four. Once this is secure, I will let the school community

know.

Nga mihi nui, Emily Hargreaves ([email protected])

KAPAHAKA TUTOR Our School needs a new Kapahaka tutor. Our tutor needs to be fun, firm, fair and kind, have lots of enthusiasm, and the ability to lead our beautiful tamariki in waiata and dance. This is a paid position for 1.5 hrs a week. Time can be negotiated and will require a police check. If this sounds like you we invite you to write a letter (address to Emily) of interest outlining your skill set, experience and availability.

AFTER SCHOOL TURF HOCKEY DRAW for next week 15th September 2015. This is the final week. Sausages will be for sale. $2 ea. 4.00pm East 1 v Central Lions 4.30pm East 2 v Beach.

PRE-SCHOOLERS We need to have an up-to-date list of those children who are likely to come to this school for our roll projection. Please fill in the slip below and return it with names of any pre-schoolers you know who will be coming to this school, including neigh-bours or friends who don’t presently have children at school.

KIDS’ PAGE William's East School Improvements In Minetest. William A (age 9 years) has been working on this terms school wide theme 'Improving Waihi East School' in Minetest, an open source clone of Minecraft. In Minetest, Room 1 students are building virtual worlds representing Waihi East School with their ideas for improving our school included. The pupils have been working out how to build the features they want using Minetest building materials. William made a screen cast explaining some of the features seen in his East School world he is working on with other Room 1 pupils. This video was first posted at http://waihieaststudents.blogspot.co.nz/ our Waihi East School Students Blog Blast.

When I went to go home and later I went to my Nanas and I went outside and I played with my toys and then I saw my Koko and he took me to the dump and then we went back home and then I had dinner and it was fun and I got some dominoes and one was one we did not have. By Kale B, age 6, room 7.

PUBLIC HEATLTH NURSE

The Public Health nurse has informed us that there has been a marked increase in the number of vomiting and diarrhoea inci-dences around Waihi recently. She has been advised by the Medi-cal Officer of Health, Population Health in Hamilton. If your child is experiencing high fever, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting and /or diarrhoea they are to be home until 24/48 hours from their last episode. Some children and adults may also be carrying the illness but have no symptoms so therefore we stress the im-portance of good hand hygiene practises. Any concerns please contact your doctor.

EAR CARAVAN The mobile Ear caravan will be in Waihi on Thursday 17th Sep-tember parked at Waihi Central School Moresby Ave, 9.30-2pm.

To date we have raised $1082 for our LifePod destined for Fiji. We are more than halfway— Wahoo! Donations can be made through the office. Remember to see Sharon for your stickers to place on our chart.
