FAITH FORMATION NEWS WORSHIP SUPPORT

(formerly known as Sunday School) What is Faith Formation? ...Faith Formation is growing our faith through education for everyone!

Prince of Peace has been in a state of transition this summer with our Faith Formation Program. We would like to take a moment to talk about the Faith Formation (formerly known as Sunday School) Program for children aged Kindergarten through 5th grade. Things are really rolling along and this fall will bring exciting experiences our way. A Faith Formation team of PoP members has been diligently working on developing job descriptions for our staff coordinators, defining program needs, selecting curriculum, seeking teachers & helpers, and more!

We of course are most excited to share that Anna Reinhold (Birth - 5K) and Brigetta Wingender (1st-5th Gr.) have accepted positions as FF Coordinators. (Read more details in the September newsletter.) So, we are gearing up quickly for classes to begin on Sunday, September 11th!

Please register your Kindergarten through 5th grade children for classes as soon as possible. You can find the form in the narthex or on the Prince of Peace web site. Classes will be held every Sunday from 9:40a.m. --- 10:30a.m. Remember, we begin on Sunday, September 11th.

Stay tuned for more exciting information to come this fall regarding Faith Formation for children from birth through Pre-K as well as 6th grade through adults! Yours in Christ- The PoP Faith Formation Team Stacie Dobbe, Stephanie Palzewicz, Jean Herron, Kevin Hietpas, Adam Piette, Lynn Roehrborn, Nancy Scheuerman, Tom Scheuerman, and Pastor Roger

See the link below for the sign up genius, email Trisha Kostelny at [email protected] or call me at 920 734-4927. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0b4eaeac2da4f58-homeless

INTERFAITH BUILD – Updates!

Thank you to all who have donated funds and/or time to work on the homes this summer! The Interfaith Build has proved to be a rewarding project for Prince of Peace members as a way to “reach out in love” to those in need in our community. If you have not had a chance to help with the build or would to volunteer again, please consider signing up to help finish construction of the homes. No building skills are necessary to volunteer. To sign up to help, visit: Sign-up Genius (there also is a link on the Prince of Peace –Social Concerns Ministry website) or contact Ron Jones at [email protected] (731-9250). Here are the days still available and number (#) of volunteers needed:

LET'S STOCK UP ST. JOE'S FOOD PANTRY!!

The Social Concerns Ministry team will hand out bags on Sunday, September 18th. Please fill the bag and return it on Sunday, September 25th. St. Joe's provides plastic bags with suggested food items printed on it. Cash gifts will be used for fresh milk and other items not donated. If you cannot make it to church when the bags are passed out, feel free to use any bag you have at home. You can leave the bag in the entryways to the church. Please call or email Nette Kimball at [email protected] or 851.4032 with any questions. Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is happy to cooperate with many churches in the Fox Cities on a joint food pantry. St. Joseph Food Pantry was started in 1982 and weekly distributes 30 tons of fresh food and non-perishable items to hundreds of men, women, children, elderly, working poor and unemployed. Through the years they have created an effective system for churches and local agencies to cooperate and care for our needy in the Fox Cities. We are blessed to be part of this vital network. POP collects food each quarter. We ask you to pray for those people in need.

POP BOOK CLUB…

...will meet Thursday, September 15, 1:30 at church. We are reading “An Invisible Thread” by Laura Schroff to be discussed then. These are available at both the Appleton and Menasha Public Libraries. It is in our own library as well and is being shared by the group. This book tells of the life-long friendship between a busy sales executive and a disadvantaged young boy, and how both of their lives were changed by what began as one small gesture of kindness. Come and join us for this heartwarming tale.

SEPTEMBER 11TH IS E2F PAN SUNDAY! E2F stands for Empty to Full. It ‘s a program set up to fulfill the meal needs for residents at Homeless Connections (formerly known as Emergency Shelter-Appleton). Here’s how it works: Quarterly, aluminum pans with covers, recipes and a shopping list will be handed out at church. You can then take it home and make the recipe during the week (at the time of your choosing) and then freeze it. The pans are returned to church the following Sunday and frozen in our new freezer at church. When it is our turn to serve at Homeless Connections we can bring the pans along and warm them up that evening. On September 11th we’ll hand out the pans so that you can bring them back to church on September 18th. We are also in desperate need of volunteers for serving at Homeless Connections or donating a dessert on the nights we serve. If you are interested, please sign up at sign up genius at: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0b4eaeac2da4f58-homeless; or email Trisha Kostelny at [email protected] or phone at 734-4927.
