From the Principal
Our week started with an amazing Parable Project Assembly on Monday. Our students and staff enjoyed the performance of Jesus’ parables, which were depicted with drama, humor, and great student participation. Our Girls Volleyball teams played St. Mary’s on Monday. They continue to improve their serving and volleying, while working hard, being good teammates and displaying great attitudes! Our 4th graders were excellent leaders for our School Liturgy on Wednesday. Our students in grades 2-6 have prepared well for their MAP Testing this week (Reading and Math) by coming in rested and by having eaten a good breakfast. We will continue the testing on Tuesday for 1st, 5th, and 6th grades and make-up testing in all grades. All students in grades K-6th also recently participated in DIBELS Testing ( a 2-3 minute assessment) that will help guide our Reading instruction throughout the school year.
Our 4-6 graders started their Safety Around Water program this week at the YMCA. The first two days went very well with students well prepared (bathing suits, towels, etc.) and receptive to the instruction they are receiving.
Our students and staff will begin praying the Rosary next Monday for the month of October (Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays). I would ask that all of our students bring their rosaries to school for the entire month. Our teachers will keep the rosaries in a basket for younger students to use throughout the month. Our 3rd graders will be our leaders for our School Liturgy, which is also a Loaves & Fishes Liturgy (canned fruit and vegetables, tuna, mac & cheese, spaghetti pasta and sauce). The monthly awards (Dignity & Respect and Ponderosa Star Student) will be presented after the School Liturgy. I am still looking for one additional sponsor ($250) for the Dignity and Respect Award.
Thank you for using the recently painted parking spaces in the East Parking Lot to enable our students to be safely picked up after school! I am hoping that this will continue through the Winter when the yellow lines may be covered. Our students safety is very important to all of us! Please continue to follow our drop-off procedures in the morning. My one area of great concern is the parents/children who are walking directly to the front entrance.
Our 4th-6th grade students have worked two days this week on preparing a float for the Cadillac Vikings Homecoming parade (thank you Falissa, Katie and Marybeth Munch for your leadership). They will continue their efforts on Tuesday and Wednesday next week at Mr. and Mrs. Kamaloski’s home (4301 M-55, past Thirsty’s) from 4:00-6:00pm. All students and staff are invited to join us for the parade. Please meet us between 4:30-4:45 at the Pavilion. We are meeting between 4:30-4:45 at the Pavilion (students 1st grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult) and students should be picked up at the Cadillac High School Tennis Courts at the end of the parade.
