1) INTRODUCTION
• This Exchange Programme started the academic year 2007-2008.
• This Programme was conceived in order to provide the best students of Civil Engineering of the UC with the chance to complete their education in the Cornell University.
• Responsibles of the Programme:

1) INTRODUCTION
• Two years Programme (for the Spanish students):
• The Spanish students spend the first year in the Aula Cornell and the second year in a foreign destination (Cornell, USA, English-spoken destination…).
• It is mandatory (for the Spanish) to complete the two years programme:
• You cannot desert!
• It’s compulsoty to spend the second year abroad.

2) DISTRIBUTION OF STUDENTS
• Originally, the Spanish students came from the 5-years (old) Degree in Civil Engineering.
• This course 2012-2013, the Spanish students exclusively come from the 4-years (new) Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Last year everything worked perfectly with the students of the 4-years DCE.
• The Programme gathers students from very different origins, with different profiles and backgrounds:
• USA-Cornell students.
• Other USA students.
• ERASMUS students.
• Spanish students of the Degree in Civil Engineering.

2) DISTRIBUTION OF STUDENTS
• This puzzle of students has advantages and inconveniences:
• Teaching is not so easy (more difficult) when the students have very differnt profiles and backgrounds.
• The previous students participating in the Programme descibed the experience as enriching, challenging, gratifying...
• My personal point of view, after teaching in the Cornell – UC Programme for the last 7 years:
• Advantage: 15-20 students.
• Nice atmosphere.
• This icebreking meeting between the USA students and the Spanish students is to allow you to meet each other.

• 8 students from the DCE..
• English spoken destination (mainly USA):
• ??? students from the DCE.
• Foreign students:
• 8 USA students (Cornell Programme)
• Variable number of USA and ERASMUS students.

3) INSTITUTIONAL EFFORT
• It is important to realice about the effort done by the University of Cantabria in order to establish, to maintain and to improve the Programme:
• To establish an agreement with the Cornell University.
• To set up an specific classroom.
• To teach in English!
• To find foreign destinations for the Spanish students.
• To adapt the syllabus between the Cornell-UC Programme and the Degree in Civil Engineering.
