From the Commodore... Can any of us recall an August with more favorable conditions than we enjoyed for both of TAYC’s flagship regattas this year? Sunshine and breeze….followed by more sunshine and more breeze – provided a genuine end- of-summer treat for sailors, race officials, volunteers and spectators alike! On the Oxford Regatta’s final day, what fun it was to see so many smiling faces streaming into Chip and Sally Akridge’s “Harleigh” – by land and water – for the latest in a long line of spectacular trophy presentations spon- sored annually by the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club. For decades now, these exquisitely executed events have been for many members, of both clubs, their favorite part of a weekend widely considered the crown jewel of the Bay racing season. All of us at TAYC are grateful for our productive partnership with CBYC which enables us to extend a much-loved yachting tradition on the Tred Avon dating all the way back to the years before World War II. Speaking of traditions, now that September’s upon us it’s time for the NASS race from Annapolis to Oxford on Sept 7th, followed the next day by the 58th annual Hammond Regatta. Why not make plans to come down to the club on Saturday to watch 100+ boats finish the race off our docks -- and stay for drinks, dinner and dancing to the band Saved By Zero at a lively post-race party planned by V/C Doug Abbott and Gov. Tom DeMarco. Finally, don’t forget to mark your calendars for a very special Wednesday Night Dinner on September 25th as we celebrate Sandy Wellford King’s decades of dedicated service to our club. From the Commodore...

Can any of us recall an August with more favorable conditions than we enjoyed for both of TAYC’s flagship regattas this year? Sunshine and breeze….followed by more sunshine and more breeze – provided a genuine end-of-summer treat for sailors, race officials, volunteers and spectators alike!

On the Oxford Regatta’s final day, what fun it was to see so many smiling faces streaming into Chip and Sally Akridge’s “Harleigh” – by land and water – for the latest in a long line of spectacular trophy presentations spon-sored annually by the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club. For decades now, these exquisitely executed events have been for many members, of both clubs, their favorite part of a weekend widely considered the crown jewel of the Bay racing season.

All of us at TAYC are grateful for our

productive partnership with CBYC which

enables us to extend a much-loved yachting

tradition on the Tred Avon dating all the way back to the years before World War II.

Speaking of traditions, now that September’s upon us it’s time for the NASS race from

Annapolis to Oxford on Sept 7th, followed the next day by the 58th annual Hammond Regatta.

This one’s not to be missed!

By the time you read this, your commodore will be deployed overseas keeping a watchful eye on six barges crewed by club members conducting a gastronomical & oenological survey along the canals of the Burgundy re-gion in France. Welcome Aboard! Please join in and help welcome our newest club member!

On July 31st, 10 classically restored Bay Buy Boats rendezvoused at TAYC as part of the Chesapeake

Bay Buy Boat Reunion This wonderful opportunity allowed members to see behind the hatch of these

Chesapeake Bay treasures and to speak to the boat captains, crew and family. Later that evening 100

members and guests enjoyed a delicious dinner at the club house! We look forward to a visit again next

year!

Following Club tradition for international cruising, thirty-three TAYC members will be enjoying the canals of

Burgundy, France, September 1-11. They had a final French picnic on August 4 at the home of Ed Delaney

and Betty Anderson on La Trappe Creek. The barge captains (wearing berets) and crews shared briefing notes

on canal routes and information on what to see along the way.

On six barges, the crews will undoubtedly have a few experiences to share of close encounters along the canals and

passage through the forty-nine locks, wine and food indulgences, and more. So stay tuned to hear their tales this

Fall.. Ed Delaney

TAYC Crews Take to Barges in Burgundy, France

Three full days of racing, 65+ volunteers, 7 distinct race

courses, 18 different classes of sailboats, 235 boats and

over 600 sailors; plus 3 great parties!

We could not have asked for better weather for the

Sunday Trophy Presentations at Harliegh.

A big thank you, again to Chip and Sally Akridge
