RYDE – Investing in our Youth
Shared with permission from Brunswick CRC
Sometimes life can be a challenge but there are
always those who go out of their way to make a
difference, to make those challenges a little eas-
ier and to help individuals achieve their goals.
Take the Regional Youth Drive Education (RYDE)
Program as an example. An initiative to help busy
regional families help their teens to get their li-
cense. We all know that to be independent it helps
to have a license, especially where public transport
is nil or limited. Having a license also helps with
securing employment.
We all want to feel safe on the road so the more
experience and confidence our “Learner” drivers
get, the more we can all feel a little more assured
that our children, our parents, our families and our
friends are all safe on the road.
Here in our little Regional patch, Janine Quicke
from the Harvey Local Drug Action Group has
started the conversation with Ian Anstee from In-
vesting in Our Youth Inc. to start implementing the
RYDE program in the Harvey area. If you would
like to help Janine with this initiative, she would
love to hear from you: [email protected] or call
0438 291 963.
If you’re struggling to help your young person
achieve their 50 hours, contact the South West
RYDE program.
South West RYDE Program Manager—0419 730
Who is RYDE for?
The RYDE program helps young people who live in
the South West who are experiencing barriers in
completing their compulsory 50 log-book hours.
The RYDE sessions are about gaining experience
and improving skill rather than the initial stage of
“learning to drive”.
Are you eligible?
16 to 25 Years old
Have a Learner’s permit?
Don’t have access to a suitable vehicle?
Don’t have someone with 4 years’ experience to ac-
company you?
