September Spotlight Cover WinnerWho is Stan Tenney?
This month, we spotlight CBAAmember, Stan Tenney, a retired manfrom working as an Oil Field ProductionService Technician. He has dabbed inother professions along the way. Stan iswell known for his intriguing artwork.
Born in western part of Virginiaand reared outside Philadelphia and inway up-state New York, he has lived inNorth Carolina, Louisiana, Florida, and isan absolute native of the eastern sectionof the United States of America. Hecurrently is residing in Virginia and livesin the home he enjoyed visiting during hissummer months as a child; the home ofhis grandfather, John B. Tenney, in theWilloughby area of Norfolk. Stan wasreared in a home full of art and music;therefore he has chosen a guitar to playand artists’ tools to create.
Having lived in areas close to thesea, i.e., in Ocracoke, NC, and inTidewater’s Willoughby area, Stan’s arttends to have a salty taste. Anappreciation for many styles, as well astypes of mediums, has lead him to a widevariety of art work, including photographywhich is shown on this month’s cover ofa young cardinal’s picture he took a fewweeks ago in his backyard.
Stan is currently a member of theCBAA (Chesapeake Bay Art Association)and has held several positions, i.e, VicePresident, President, Ocean View ArtShow Director, etc. He paints wheneverhis cat, Dave, lends him the time. In theCBAA’s Ocean View 57th Art Show inOctober, 2019, you may be surprised athow much Stan loves painting cats. Inregards to his paintings in watercolor, oil, acrylics, enamel, pastel, wood block, wood cut, drawing, pencil, and paintingson bricks, he says, “It's just the way I seethings.”

Well, this is my third newsletter and information is getting harder and harder to obtain from members. I
continuously see post on Instagram, Facebook and in emails that could be placed in the newsletter; something
that could be actual news for members. Several people I asked what they thought about the newsletter have
the following comment to say, “I haven’t opened it yet” or “I haven’t read it yet.” I think, “Why am I spending so
much time preparing a newsletter that not too many members read.” Some members do email me and tell me
how much they liked the newsletter, but no one has told me that liked the artistic jokes I include. Ha! Ha! I still
do not receive enough Cover and/or Featured Artist emails; or upcoming shows members are participating in.
When sending your images for selection, create yourself a short bio to include in the newsletter if you’re
selected. Some people don’t care to brag about themselves or their art, but others love to, so do yourself a
favor and brag. Please keep sending your information for upcoming newsletter by the first Tuesday of the
month to [email protected]. Thank you, Elizabeth Dale Mauldin, Newsletter Chair
