Church Cleaning Project From Sandra Willis—- I feel lead by the Lord to organize some church work projects. I would like to see them done by Oct. for our Missions Conference. I understand we have a custodian but she can only do so much. I have been blessed with cleaning and organizing help in the nurseries and feel it would bless the whole church for these needs to be meant. Listed below are suggested jobs. If you are willing to help please sign on the sheet on the bulletin board and we can figure out a convenient time for you. Families could use it as a ministry or students as a Christian service. Wash plastic chairs in the Beginners, Pre-Primary and Primary/Beginners Church class rooms. (they can be scrubbed and spayed off outside) Polish the tops and back of the pews with the Murphy's oil wipes the church has. Several people can share this job so it's not a huge job for anyone. Vacuum the back & seats of pews - especially where the back and seats meet with a crevice tool. Several people can share this job also Vacuum the carpet around the base of the pews. Several people can share this job. Vacuum chair in adult class rooms The blinds in the baby nursery and the 2-3 yr. old class room need to be cleaned. Clean 10 silk plants from the front of the church (these can be spayed off outside) Clean stain glass in sanctuary & doors Outside window wells and classroom windows cleaned Some of the windows inside (I can tell you which ones) Paint the lower level hall way. From beginner church room towards restrooms. Paint the poles in the fellowship area, the wall to the right of the telephone (where the bookrack has damaged the paint) and the doors and hall outside the Cornerstone room.

Missionary of the Month Cary & Verna Perdue SEND International

Cary and Verna Perdue have been associated with SEND International a total of twenty-three years. Cary was approached by SEND to help develop a gradate level theological school in Manila so during '71-'83 Cary, Verna and four daughters lived in Quezon City, a suburb of Manila. They

saw the growth of Asian Theological Seminary from a handful of students to almost two hundred. Growth peaked at three hundred students in the late 80's. After pastoring Sugar Grove Church for fourteen years the Perdue's transitioned back into SEND in '02. Most of their ministry has been in theological education and speaking in conferences. Their main focus at this time is serving as "Prayer Champions" for an outreach among factory workers in western central Taiwan. The outreach is called Vision 119. Although the missionaries and local churches endeavor to evangelize, Taiwan is a spiritually dark country so prayer is a key to breaking down the strongholds of darkness. About once a month a prayer update is sent out using the Internet. The update often uses names of places and people that most cannot even pronounce. But God knows! And He is the One Who counts!! If you would like to pray for Taiwan and wish to be on the prayer list, please send your name and email address to: [email protected]

Top 10 Most Popular Hymns of All Time and Their History

Starting this month, we will be sharing this new series. Each month , as space allows, will include one or more of the stories behind the Top 10 Most Popular hymns.

All across the world, millions of believers sing hundreds of thousands of different songs. Singing is a natural part of worship, and our rich collection of songs is a testament to this truth. Among the thousands of songs, there are a number of English hymns that stand out as worthy of attention because of their enduring appeal and classic texts. Here are the top 10 most popular hymns of all time and their history. Amazing Grace, John Newton (1779) Most of us have heard the familiar words, “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.” The author of the hymn was, by his own admission, a “wretch.” He was a slave trader, a blasphemer, a rebel, an immoral man, a torturer, and as far from grace as anyone could ever be. As a boy, John was captivated by the adventure and risk of life on the high seas. When he was eleven, young John Newton launched into that exciting life of voyaging, sailing, and living his dream. But the dream turned out to be a nightmare. Later in life he wrote, “I sinned with a high hand, and I made it my study to tempt and seduce others.” Newton lived a hard life with hard consequences. God got his attention though. In 1748, Newton’s slave ship was nearly wrecked by an intense storm. In the tempest, surrounded by crashing waves, cutting winds, creaking timbers, and the cries of onboard slaves, John fell to his knees and pled for mercy, and for grace. God’s grace, which reaches anyone, anywhere, saved a wretch like John Newton. Newton wrote the song years later while serving as a pastor in Olney, England. During America’s Second Great Awakening, the song was paired with its familiar tune and was widely used in camp meetings and revival services. Today, its lyrics still inspire, encourage, and instruct people about the radical reality of God’s amazing grace. Copyright Sharefaith- Used with permission.

Grandpas? “How can we use the Word of Life Quiet Times to connect our family in a time of family devotions?” We all need help to enhance our family times. If you are interested in connecting your family in their devotions, please pick up the “Quiet Time Connect” brochure on the table in the lobby. Adult QT books can be purchased directly from WOL or we can order one for you. The books are $20.00 or you can sign up to do online QT. http://quiettimediary.com/ We have a few coupons for a free 30 Day Trial for the online QT. Please see Kristi if you are interested.
