8-bit historyWe Remember...Galaga: Demons of DeathBy: BandaiRelease date: 1985
The objective of Galaga is to score as many
points as possible by destroying insect-like en-
emies. The player controls a starfighter that can
move left and right along the bottom of the
playfield. Enemies swarm in groups in a forma-
tion near the top of the screen, and then begin
flying down toward the player, firing bombs at
the fighter. The game ends when the player's
last fighter is lost, either by colliding with an en-
emy or one of its bullets, or by being captured.

This year’s Oktoberfest event will be a blend of traditional and nov-
el according to Shellabration President Jim Reed. Slated for Sat-
urday, September 22nd at the Oleson Park Bandshell, the
event will again feature a rotation of two regionally
renowned polka bands from noon until 7PM includ-
ing Karl & the Country Dutchmen from Wisconsin
and the Wendinger Band out of Minnesota. Coupled
with a custom wooden dance floor, German food, a
variety of German and domestic draught beers on tap
and live college football broadcasts all day, that con-
stitutes the traditional relative to Fort Dodge’s past
three Oktoberfest events. The novelty lies in the
headliner. After hosting the Vic Ferrari Band at each
of the first three outings, this year’s event will feature
a dynamic country rock band out of Nashville called
Mustang Sally.
A
female
country
rock band
out of
Nashville, Mustang
Sally last graced the Bandshell
stage in 2002. “As only our second
ever event, we first brought them
to Fort Dodge on a three week
turnaround, said Reed. The show
took place on a Wednesday night
and the first day of school in Au-
gust, yet we still managed to draw
around 625 people. They’re the fe-
male equivalent of Vic Ferrari,
added Reed. They play the perfect
blend of country and rock cover
tunes with their own hits mixed in
for good measure”. Reed recalls the
long line of people waiting to get their autographs after the show in 2002. “I remember
thinking we’ve got to bring these gals back to Fort Dodge sometime and give them a big-
ger audience”, said Reed.
The date for Oktoberfest 2012 is also unique compared to past
year’s events. Shellabration’s September 22nd Oktoberfest
date corresponds with the start of the actual Oktoberfest
celebration in Bavaria and throughout the German
States. Having taken place in early October in 2009-
2011, event organizers listened to feedback from ru-
ral polka and dance fans. “Staging the event in Octo-
ber makes it difficult for farmers and their families to
attend due to the fall harvest, explained Shellabra-
tion Secretary Ted Bodensteiner. The earlier Septem-
ber date will hopefully increase the number of peo-
ple that can take part”, said Bodensteiner.
Tickets for Oktoberfest 2012 featuring Mustang Sally
go on sale Saturday, September 1st. They are $8.00
and will be available for purchase online at HYPER-
LINK "http://www.ticketweb.com"
www.ticketweb.com or by phone at (866) 468-3401. Tickets
will also be available for purchase in Fort Dodge at Hy-Vee and
Hy-Vee Drug Store. Kids 12 years of age and under are admitted
free and all tickets are general admission with festival style seating.
Tickets will also be available at the gate at the same $8.00 price.
Shellabration Inc. is a tax exempt 501(c)4 non-profit organization consisting exclusively of
unpaid board members and volunteers. The organization’s mission is to make a positive
contribution to the quality of life and the economic development of the greater Fort Dodge
area through the delivery of exciting, family-friendly entertainment and performing arts
options. In years when a profit is realized, 100% of the net proceeds remain within the or-
ganization and are used to help stage additional events, to attract bigger headliners each
year and to perpetuate the organization’s mission in down financial years.
More information regarding either the event or organization is available atwww.shellabration.org or by calling Jim Reed at (515) 573-3327.
