Seppeltsfield Centennial CollectionSeppeltsfield’s history is punctuated with many moments of visionary foresight. Seppeltsfield’s founder,

Joseph Seppelt and his eldest son, Benno, were particularly renowned for their longer term vision for the estate, closely following custodianship principles to ensure a legacy was passed on to future generations.

This is no more evident than Benno Seppelt’s inception of the Centennial Cellar - a truly unique and unparalleled system of maturing single barrels of vintage Tawny for 100 years before release.

In 1866, plans to build a new bluestone cellar were started by Joseph. 12 years later in 1878 and following the passing of his father, Benno completed the stone cellars. In a gesture both unique and inspirational,

Benno selected a puncheon of his finest Port wine and gave instructions that it was not to be bottled for 100 years. This single barrel of 1878 Tawny port was to remain maturing in a separate room within the bluestone

cellars, untouched in the same location for 100 years.

This special room would go on to become the Centennial Cellar and is the foundation for the Seppeltsfield Centennial Collection.

The tradition of laying down a barrel of the finest wine from each vintage was continued every year following and continues to do so today. The Centennial Cellar now comprises an unbroken lineage of every vintage

from the current year back to 1878.

Seppeltsfield Paramount CollectionAlong with precious reserves of Tawny, Seppeltsfield is renowned for distinct fortified expressions of Muscat,

Tokay (Muscadelle) and Spanish influenced aperitif styles. For generations, small parcels of each of these have been reserved in separate batches, destined for our Museum Reserve holdings.

During the 1900s, these Museum Reserve parcels were seldom released from the estate and largely kept in secret. Today, they are being crafted as the Paramount Collection; wines to challenge the greatest style

expressions being produced the world over.

Often featuring components of over half a century in age, the Seppeltsfield Paramount Collection represents both the patience and subsequent rewards of extended ageing. Carefully guided through long term cellar

maturation, each wine achieves a complexity and depth of character beyond compare.

An extremely small amount of Seppeltsfield Paramount Collection bottlings are released each year under a unique ‘DP ’ (Duty Paid) classification.

The Seppeltsfield Decanter, by LaliqueFounded in 1888, over a century ago, Lalique is the Master of glass and fine crystal. René Lalique, renowned

as the inventor of modern jewellery, then became Master in the art of glassmaking. Over time, his name has become the powerful symbol of a unique expertise, a synonym for luxury, excellence, creativity and an

immediately recognisable style. Lalique earned his title, Sculpteur de Lumière, from the richly sculptural craftsmanship and dramatic contrasts between clear and frosted finishes that define his work.

Today, Lalique offers collections across five categories: jewellery, decorative items, interior design, perfumes, and art.

In 2014, a unique partnership between Lalique and Seppeltsfield began, both of which share a genuine passion for the rare and collectable. The vision was to create a vessel of beauty and originality, to hold the

world’s first 100 year old average aged Tawny (Port) wine.

The Seppeltsfield Decanter has been meticulously designed and hand crafted by Lalique’s crystal artisans in Alsace, France, with the wine masterfully blended by Seppeltsfield winemakers in the Barossa Valley. The

Tawny comprises vintages as far back as 1886 and maintains an average age of 100 years.

The Seppeltsfield Decanter is encapsulated by a bespoke Australian Jarrah hardwood presentation case, prepared in the Barossa Valley by local craftsman. The rare hardwood timbers have been recommissioned

from 19th century wine fermentation vats, completing the Seppeltsfield Decanter as one of the world’s most collectable marriages of art, history and fine winemaking endeavour.

Page 20: Seppeltsfield rare & exquisite collections catalogue

Designed by Lalique for Seppeltsfield, this fine crystal decanter is directly inspired by the symbolic Canary Island Date Palms which line

the Seppeltsfield estate in the Barossa Valley.

The body of the decanter evokes the iconic drop shape of the traditional Seppeltsfield bottle, using the technique of blown glass in

a stationary mould. The contrast of satin-finished and transparent crystal, the Lalique signature, embodies the silhouette of the

Seppeltsfield palm branches.

This emblematic design encloses the fortified wine in a natural crystal envelope - a symbol of protection and preservation. The stopper is also directly inspired by René Lalique’s motifs. Here, the Seppeltsfield palm is introduced using the injection technique, with a three-part mould to

intricately highlight the frond and leaf pattern.

Page 21: Seppeltsfield rare & exquisite collections catalogue

Encapsulated by Lalique’s decanter is a world first in winemaking history - an Australian Tawny (Port) which average 100 years in age.

This blended Tawny draws from over twelve separate vintages, all of which have been matured in the Seppeltsfield Centennial Cellar. The Centennial Cellar is home to over 136 separate Tawny vintages - an

unbroken lineage unique to the world of wine.

Remarkably, the wine features a parcel of Tawny from 1886, drawn carefully from barrel as the foundation vintage

for The Seppeltsfield Decanter blend.

The Seppeltsfield Decanter represents the culmination of over 160 years of winemaking heritage and vision with barrel-aged Tawny.
