Introduction Most of you following SEO Synergy will have no need to read through this lesson as it simply covers
the basics I.e. WordPress set-up. I have included the lesson for the guys and girls who are new to the
whole thing and tend to get left behind by most courses. So if you are new to marketing online
(whichever avenue you intend pursuing) then here are the basics for you.
Your domain You will need to purchase an EMD (exact match domain) or a domain which included the keyword
you want to rank for. Purchase from Godaddy or any other domain seller.
The following is a list of which TLDs I perceive to be the best in order of importance. (Just my
opinion)
1. .com
2. .org
3. .net
4. .co
Stick to these four TLDs, County specific domains are also great providing you do not wish to sell the
site/ domain to someone from another country in the future.
The use of hyphens If you are finding it a little tricky to get the domain you really want you may be tempted to use
hyphens (-). If that’s the case then don’t use more than one and place it behind (after) the key-
phrase. Example: PENILEPAPULESREMOVAL-TIPS.COM

4 SEO Synergy
If you use more than one hyphen; certain search engines may penalise your site as spam before you
even start.
Hosting
You will also need web-hosting (to host your website /blog). I suggest you get a hosting package with
CPanel (control panel). Examples, tutorials & demonstrations will use CPanel. Lots of you will already
have hosting providers, if you don’t; then I recommend Hostgator (I use them). Click the link and
sign up for their ‘Baby Plan’ (Unlimited domains) from $6.36 per month
Add your Domains to hosting If this is the first time you have set up hosting the account will be set up with a domain, so the
domain will be added to your account automatically. You should have purchased two domains so
use the domain which you plan on using for your blog to set up your hosting account. To add the
second domain and all additional domains follow the example below:
Log into your CPanel (Host)
Your host will normally send you a welcome email with your log-in details or use the following URL:
http://www.yourdomainname.com/cpanel
Once inside your CPanel click ‘Addon Domains’ (See Picture)
On the following page; fill in your domain details as the picture below shows (with your domain).
Then click ‘Add Domain’

That’s all there is to it. If you completed the required information correctly you will see the following
page:
That’s it; you have now added your domain to your hosting account. I’m using HostGator as my site
host, if you’re using another hosting provider then you’re CPanel and pages may differ slightly.

Change Name-Servers If you purchased your domain name from one provider and your hosting package from another as I
do; then you will need to change the Name-servers for the domain to point at your host. That may
sound complicated if this is all new to you but it’s actually very easy (Instructions below). When you
sign up for hosting your host will send you a welcome email which will contain two or more Name-
Servers
I purchase all my domains through Godaddy and always use HostGator for hosting my sites. I have
found this to be the best combination (Just my personal opinion).
Godaddy
Hostgator
Any combination will suffice, or simply use one provider for purchasing your domain and providing
hosting, that way you won’t need to change name-servers.
If you are following my recommendations I.e. Godaddy for domains and Hostgator for hosting;
follow the example below to change your Name-Servers:
Note: The following example uses Godaddy
Log into your account, and then launch domains (as picture shows below)
Check the box next to your domain, and then click ‘Nameservers’ (see picture below).
On the following page (as picture below), check ‘I have specific Nameservers for my domains’. Then
add your host provider’s Nameservers (one for each box) and click OK.
Your host provider will normally send you a welcome email containing the Nameservers (If not; just
ask them).

You should then see a conformation box like the picture below (or similar).
To check that your Nameservers have changed (it may take a couple of hours); launch domains in
your account (as explained above). Then click the domain name (see picture)
The domain details page will show you when the Name-servers were last changed (see picture;
bottom left).

As I said; it may take a while for these changes to take effect even though the domain details are
already showing that the changes have been made (give it a couple of hours). You have now changed
your Name-servers.
Note: different provider’s platforms may look different but the process is the same.
WP set-up Setting up WordPress on your root domain is very simple, here’s a quick tutorial:
1. Log into your host CPanel
2. Scroll down to the Software/Services area. And then click ‘Fantastico De Luxe’ (see picture
below)

Themes & Plugin’s Themes; WordPress is installed with a default theme which at the time of writing is Twenty Twelve (I
think). The ‘Twenty Twelve’ theme is actually pretty good so there is no real need to change it;
unless of course you really want too.
There are a ton of free WP themes which will fit with almost any niche. As PPP is in the health niche I
decided to use a health related WP theme simply called; HealthFitness
Theme’s How to change your theme;
log into the admin area, then click ‘Appearance’; this will open up a page showing your existing
theme plus a choice of alternative themes which usually consist of themes which were added during
the WP installation and any themes which you have uploaded or added.
Click ‘Install Themes’; you will find the link just above your existing theme (See screen shot below).

13 SEO Synergy
Searching for theme’s to use for your blog; there are a number of options which you can use when
searching for that ideal theme as the picture above shows. A simple search using a broad keyword
such as ‘Health’ (your niche) will often do the trick. You could also try clicking Featured, Newest or
Recently Updated.
Alternatively; search by filter or simply search online for niche specific themes and upload. If all of
this seems a little overwhelming just stick to the default theme, you can always change it later on.
Once you have found a theme which you are happy with simply click ‘Activate’.
You can view my blog here: http://penilepapulesremoval.org
Plugin’s Plugin’s perform specific site tasks which will save you a good deal of time. There are literally
thousands of Plugin’s available for WP sites, but we only really need a handful, which are free apart
from one which is paid but optional.
They are as follows:
All in One SEO Pack (Required – Free)
Google XML Sitemaps (Required – Free)
Outbrain (Optional – Free)
Akismet (Optional – Free)
WordPress.com Stats (Optional – Free)
Contact Form 7 (Optional, only required if your theme doesn’t have a contact form built in –
Free)
ClickBump SEO! (Optional – Paid)

Google XML Sitemaps This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Bing,
Yahoo and Ask.com to better index your blog. With such a sitemap, it's much easier for the crawlers
to see the complete structure of your site and retrieve it more efficiently.
The plugin supports all kinds of WordPress generated pages as well as custom URLs. Additionally it
notifies all major search engines every time you create a post about the new content making it a
must for ranking your blog.
Google XML Sitemaps set-up
Click settings; you will find settings on the left hand side of your admin
dash (see picture).Click the settings tab and then click the Plugin name.
In this case ‘XML-Sitemap’.
I use the settings shown in the picture below (they work for me). Once
complete; Click ‘Update options’.
Outbrain Outbrain is a content discovery plugin which automatically places your best content at the footer of
your article to guide readers towards other posts they may be interested in. Great for keeping
readers on your blog which reduces your sites bounce rate.

Akismet Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not
and lets you review the spam it catches under your blog's "Comments" admin screen.

Click Plugins; on the left hand side of your admin dash (see picture below; Inset Fig1).Click ‘Installed

On the Akismet settings page you must enter your API key. If this is your first set up you will have to
sign up to get an API key (this is free). Using the picture below as a point of reference; follow these
steps.
Click the Akismet.com link (Fig 1)
Click ‘Get an Akismet API key at the Aksismet.com website (Fig 2; Inset), follow site
instructions.
Add your API key to your blog (Fig 3), and then click ‘Update options’
WordPress.com Stats You will need to install WordPress Jet Pack in order to get access to WordPress stats. Jet Pack is a
free plugin.
Contact Form 7 Contact Form 7 is just my personal preference when it comes to contact form plugins. Some themes
now come with an integrated contact page template so you will not need to install a contact page
plugin. But if you do try this one, it’s really easy to use.
There is no real set up as Contact Form 7 uses your default email address. Once activated; simply
copy the contact form code and add it to a page (not post). You will need to have the page content
box set to HTML. Add the code, call the page ‘Contact’ or ‘Contact Page’ and save.

ClickBump SEO! ClickBump is a paid SEO plugin which helps optimize each of your
posts as you write them, plus a lot more. You do not need to use
this or any other SEO optimization plugin in order for Niche Synergy
to work, however if you can afford ClickBump now or later on I
highly recommend it.
The picture on right shows ClickBump SEO at work. You will see this
helpful dash next to each post as you write it.
It’s not a great screen shot as I have had to resize it, but you should
be able to see how it helps you optimize each of your posts.
For a better understanding of exactly how this plugin works and
how to install; please click here: ClickBump SEO
WP Permalink Settings In your WordPress admin dash click ‘Settings’, from the settings menu click ‘Permalinks’; then add
the following to the ‘Custom Structure’ field: /%postname%
Changing your Permalink ensures that each post is posted with the post title instead of numbers.
Here’s an example:
Before change: http://penilepapulesremoval.org/p=123/
After change: http://penilepapulesremoval.org/Name-of-your-post/
