Meta-bolismIf it’s right for you it is right for your site!

What you don’t need to know:• Meta elements are tags used in HTML or XHTML documents to provide structured metadata about a

Web page. They are part of a web page's head section. Multiple Meta elements with different attributes can be used on the same page. Meta elements can be used to specify page description, keywords and any other metadata not provided through the other head elements and attributes.

What you do need to know:• Title: The title attribute specifies extra information about an element. The information is most often shown

as a tooltip text when the mouse moves over the element.• Description: Supported by most major search engines, like Yahoo! and Bing, while Google will fall back on this

tag when information about the page itself is requested (e.g. using the related: query). The description attribute provides a concise explanation of a Web page's content. This allows the Web page authors to give a more meaningful description for listings than might be displayed if the search engine was unable to automatically create its own description based on the page content.

• Keywords: Don’t waste your time.

RUL your URLDo you rule your domain? Many question the power of the URL in the eyes of search.

says...

• Google does recognize the value of keyword usage in the domain

• Easier to find by those searching if keyword used

• Keywords help sites rise to the top of search if the whole site is optimized properly

• Google has lowered its value of keyword usage (EMD exact match domain, Sept 2012)

• Might get lost by those searching with similar name

• Memorable brand names hold a higher weight in users minds

Images and VideosUse it or Lose it:

• Add quality Title and Descriptions so google can index the content as relevant to the page subject..

YouTube:• Especially if you are just linking a video from YouTube to your site you should utilize a consitent

display of titles and descriptions. This is valuable for the people searching as well as the indexing of videos into search database.

“The goal of many of our ranking changes is to help searchers find

sites that provide a great user experience and fulfill their information needs. We also want the “good guys” making great sites for users, not just algorithms, to see their effort rewarded. To that end we’ve

launched Panda changes that successfully returned higher-quality sites in search results. And earlier this year we launched a page layout algorithm that reduces rankings for sites

that don’t make much content available “above the fold.”

“Google's goal is to provide the best and most relevant search results to our users.” Never Forget!!!
