All parents are eligible for the government grant, covering 15 hours education, up until the term in which the child turns five. This is deducted from fees.

The fees cover the regular curriculum, school books, stationery and other materials, choral music, games and swimming, careers guidance and public examination fees, but not optional extra subjects or school meals. School Lunch is currently charged for separately and is compulsory for girls up to Year 10.

Whenever possible, a term’s notice will be given of the intention to increase the fees for tuition or extra subjects. However, if circumstances arise in which costs (e.g. substantial increases in teachers’ salaries) have to be recouped immediately, the Council of the Trust may be forced to increase fees at less than a term’s notice.

Payment of Fees Fees must be paid by the Bank Direct Debit system and the necessary form can be provided either by the school or from the Trust Head Office. The fees may be paid either termly in advance or by monthly instalments (4 per term).

Registration Fee A fee of £100 is charged which is not refundable.

Deposit A deposit of £750 is chargeable on the acceptance of a place and will be held until the end of the pupil’s final term in the school. It will not be refunded if the place is not taken up by the pupil.

Year 7 Entrance Test – A unique approach to testingThe aim of our Entrance Test process for Year 7 is to find out how girls think and learn, rather than what they know.

We want to find out what they could achieve at Croydon High, rather than what they have already achieved.

The whole process is intended to enable girls to feel comfortable, to reduce pressure and to give them a platform where they can shine. Girls will be tested using an adaptive online test, completed on the day. Adaptive means it responds to their answers and gets harder each time they get a question right so each experience is personalised and unique. This test is designed to assess ability in skills such as numeracy, problem solving and vocabulary. There is no special preparation required and no practice papers are available.

In addition, we will also be carrying out a teaching activity as part of our testing process after which the girls will be asked to complete a task based on the skills and content taught in the session. We believe that this method of testing assesses natural rather than rehearsed ability in key skills and enables us to analyse the potential of each girl as opposed to the amount of preparation and revision undertaken. In short, rather than assess what our applicants know and how well they have been trained, we are much more interested in finding out how they think and how they respond to engaging teaching.

All girls are automatically considered for academic scholarships, which are awarded to the girls who perform best in the Entrance Examination.

There are also Drama, Music, Sports and Art and Design scholarships for which separate applications must be made by 9 November 2018.

We take the time to consider every application very carefully and also carry out scholarship assessments after Christmas. For this reason, testing takes place in January; offers of places will be made in writing by the end of January.
