SENIOR RECITAL EXPERIENCEThe Senior Recital is held offsite to provide students with a more professional performance experience. The TorontoCentre for the Arts allows our dancers to perform in a venue with a professional stage and backstage space, supported by technicians and high-quality performance equipment. Recital is a great opportunity for our dancers to develop their performance skills and gain invaluable experience infront of an audience, whether they choose to continue as a dance professional or simply to stand in front of a groupof people to deliver a speech, presentation, or any other form of performance. Working on recital choreography is a team effort and all dancers must be committed to their class, fellow studentsand teachers to help create an amazing piece to perform!

Recital time is one of the busiest and most exciting times at Pegasus. We believe that the opportunity to perform allows dancers to develop their confidence, teamwork skills and work ethic all while increasing their dance technique and artistry skills. But all of this can be stressful! This handbook, along with our website and in studio postings, are here to help you and your family have a positive Recital experience. Please ask us any questions!

This year's recital theme is Colour, Emotion, Motion where we are using colours to jump into the exploration ofemotions through our dance. This theme is a great learning tool for dancers to connect the pieces of choreography, storyline, emotional expression and staging elements like costuming.

RECITAL THEME

A NOTE ON ATTENDANCEAttendance at this stage in preparing for the recitals is vital to a positive performance experience. Students who missmore than 3 classes after March Break may be unable to perform with their class. This is a team effort and everydancer is important to the process. Attendance at Dress Rehearsals is also mandatory. It is at the teacher's discretionwhether a student with 3 absences or who misses dress rehearsal may still perform in the Recitals.

Dress Rehearsal, Finale, Costumes and Tickets

DRESS REHEARSALThe Senior Recital dancers have two dress rehearsals. First, our in-house dress rehearsal during Photo & DressRehearsal Week will be a run through for costuming and to understand the technical requirements, such as lighting, entrances and exit cues.  The second dress rehearsal will take place on the morning of recital day, June 2 or 3, and will take place in the theatre. This dress rehearsal will be done in running order with full lights and costumes. This traditional dress rehearsal modelallows performers to practice how the show will run, including fast changes, entering the stage in a blackout and thefinale dance, as well as watching the rest of the show.  Both dress rehearsals are MANDATORY.

FINALEThe finale allows each dancer to take a bow and celebrate the amazing work they put into preparing and performingtheir dance. We ask dancers to wear a colourful top, in keeping with our theme - Colours, Emotion, Motion, with darkbottoms for the finale dance! The choreography will be taught in class.

COSTUMESCostumes for Senior Recitals do not have to be purchased. We attempt to build the costumes around your dancer'sclass uniform, however, some costumes do not work worn over top of the uniform and require a beige bodysuit beworn underneath. We require either the beige bodysuit or the class uniform (see Accessory Charts for yourclasses specific requirements) for two reasons: - Your child's comfort backstage -  As we do not have individual changing rooms for each dancer backstage, somedancers need to change in front of other people, especially if a fast change of costumes is involved. Wearing abodysuit to the theatre allows dancers the ability to get changed where ever they need. - Longevity of the costumes - We do our best to keep our costumes in good condition for as long as possible so we cancontinue to offer the rental program to you. Having a bodysuit under the costumes helps protect them from thewearing down of fabric from skin oils and sweat. It is your responsibility to have all the proper uniform items and to be prepared on recital day with theseitems in good condition. You can find the accessory charts online as well as in the reception room with details ofwhat your dancer needs to bring for the recital as well as hair style requirements, and a hair kit for touch ups andminimal makeup if required.
