ANNOUNCEMENTS

Spiritual Lessons 2 By Ho Sweet Meng

Wait For the LORD Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” I was walking at Pasir Ris Park with some active agers on Vesak day. We saw a group of people who are photography enthusiasts. They lined a walkway. They had their cameras focused on some trees. I asked one what he was looking at. He said a kingfisher’s nest. The group had sighted a kingfisher flying around and they found its nest. They were waiting for the mother to return to the nest for her young and it was at that precise moment that they would take the shot. I asked him how long he had been and would be waiting. He said for as long as it took. Once at another park, he waited from 7am to 4pm. His best shots were taken at around 3.30 to 4pm. Wow! I told him this was good training in patience. He smiled! Are we also as patient when we wait on God to answer our prayers, especially when we go through trials? Or do we give up after waiting for a while concluding that since God is silent, we need to take action ourselves? (Remember Sarah?) Do we wait with patience for God to send help l ike these enthusiasts wait to take a good shot? Or like the world, everything has to be instant? May we remember that patience that waits on God is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. As the song goes: “Strength will arise as you wait upon the Lord!” You will see the goodness of the Lord when you wait. Increased Wickedness, Lies and Evil Hab 1:3 “Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Psalm 73:16, 18 “When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understand their final destiny. …You cast them down to ruin.” The Korean drama “Wu Zilong” showcased 3 women (supposedly very good friends) and their dealings with each another. Jizi is a symbol of wickedness and evil. She schemes to have her son take over her friend’s company. She is also a gossiper and blabber, a carrier of lies. Bailu is the richest of the 3 characters. But she is proud and foolish! The one with flattering lips wins her favor and trust. As the story goes, she trusted in the wrong person causing her eldest daughter much suffering and misery. Chengshi symbolises goodness, the only honest and true friend. She comes from a poor family but brought up the children well with good moral values and integrity. Wickedness, lies and evil prevail in this drama. These increase with each episode. Only in the last 2-3 episodes is wickedness in its fullness brought to its ruin and downfall. Do we not see this parallel in the world around us today? Wickedness brings suffering, misery and death to many innocent lives. We wonder why a good God does not remove this wickedness in the world but allow it to triumph and prevail. But increased wickedness and with greater intensity will not be cast down till Jesus comes again. Then all will be made right! There will be joy and the righteous shall live and the wicked punished in eternity! How then shall we live now? Recognize wickedness, lies and evilness and have no part in them; grief and lament over all the detestable things that are done (Ezekiel 9:4); and pray for the hastening of the Lord’s return (2 Peter 3:12). May God the Almighty help us!
