What’s Going on with the Economy?
• "Up and Comers" cities: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; and Denver, CO.• Energy is North Dakota’s ticket to success.• Export know-how and medical technology are Minneapolis/St.Paul’s
edge.• New global frontier for raw material beneath the oceans. Deep sea
mining will yield extremely rich deposits of metals (copper, lead, etc.).• Growth of nuclear plants spells strong business for U.S. firms for at
least two decades. Countries planning to build plants include Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Turkey and China.
• Agriculture industry will be strong: exports to Japan will be at least $14B.
• Oil prices are expected to drop by November to $2.90-$2.99 per gal.• I.T. jobs on the rise in most sectors of the economy.
What’s Going on with the Economy?
• Construction is picking up (privately financed buildings, power plants, factories, apartment buildings, medical clinics).
• States leading the way for growth are Texas, North Dakota, Illinois, California, and Michigan.
• Auto industry will be a bright spot. Average age of auto is 10 years old. Expect people to start buying.
• Construction of a major pipeline called the Keystone XL Pipeline. This pipeline will extend from Canada oil sands to the Gulf for refining.
