A-G RequirementsThe "a-g" requirements can be summarized as follows:

• (a) History / Social Science – Two years, including one year of world history, cultures, and historical geography and one year of us history or one-half year of us history and one-half year of civics or American government.

• (b) English – Four years of college preparatory English that include frequent and regular writing, and reading of classic and modern literature.

• (c) Mathematics – Three years of college preparatory mathematics that include the topics covered in elementary and advanced algebra and two- and three-dimensional geometry.

• (d) Laboratory Science – Two years of laboratory science providing fundamental knowledge in at least two of these three disciplines: biology, chemistry, and physics.

• (e) Language Other Than English – Two years of the same language other than English.

• (f) Visual & Performing Arts – One year, including dance, drama/theater, music, or visual art.

• (g) College Preparatory Elective – One year (two semesters), chosen from additional "a-f" courses beyond those used to satisfy the requirements above, or courses that have been approved solely for use as "g" electives.

3. Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?

4. Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?

5. Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

• Comprised of:o Activities/Awards Section: 10 entries maximum that

encompass a wide area of topics. Short area to expand upon one activity, 100 words maximum.

o Supplements- Some colleges and universities require a “supplement.” These are additional essays and/or short answers that are specific to that college or university.

o Transcripts- Sent to the individual college and university by their deadline. Must be “official” transcripts.

o Letters of Recommendation- Typically, 2 are required from a core teachers. Math/Science.

o Secondary Report: Sent from the counselor’s office regarding student characteristics, accompanied by a letter of recommendation.

o Test Scores- Send official SAT and/or ACT scores to each specific university.

I.V.U.P.• Partnership between Imperial Valley College (IVC),

Imperial County Office of Education, and San Diego State University’s Imperial Valley Campus (SDSU-IV).

• Offers Imperial Valley students a Bachelor’s degree in four years while taking classes at both IVC and SDSU- Imperial Valley Campus.

• Majors Included: o Criminal Justiceo Liberal Studies (focus in Literacy, Math or Science)o Psychologyo Spanish (only open to those who have taken AP Spanish)

Financial Aid• Apply for aid between January 1 and March 2,

2015.o Submit a FAFSA. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is

available at www.fafsa.gov. You automatically will be considered for the Blue and Gold opportunity plan if you submit the FAFSA.

o Submit your GPA for a Cal Grant. Submit your school-certified GPA to the California Student Aid Commission. Use the GPA Verification Form, which is available at www.csac.ca.gov

FAFSA• Please complete income tax forms early. You

can provide estimated information on your FAFSA but you must update it later with accurate numbers.

• Jan. 1, complete and submit your FAFSA, along with any other financial aid applications the college/university requests. o Submit earlyo Easier to complete the online application
