Student_Kee Hi Sarah!

Greeter_Sarah Hey Kee!

Greeter_Sarah Hi Bonnie!

Admissions_Bonnie Good evening everyone

Greeter_Sarah Hi there CBPS. Welcome to the chat.

CBPS Good evening

Greeter_Sarah We'll be starting in just a minute.

CBPS ok

Greeter_Sarah Hi Money. Welcome to the Chat.

Greeter_Sarah We'll be starting here in just a moment.

money Okay

Greeter_Sarah Hi Kathy!

Career_Kathy Hello everyone!

CBPS hello

Greeter_Sarah Bonnie, would you like to open the chat with a greeting?

Admissions_Bonnie Thanks everyone for joining us tonight. Let's get started. Who has the first question??

Greeter_Sarah Welcome, mr. Tillman! Glad you could join us. Please jump right in.

mrtillman Thanks for having me

CBPS I will be attending the preview day in Oct. What can you tell me about it?

Admissions_Bonnie We have representatives from admissions, financial aid, a current student, etc.

Admissions_Bonnie The October visition will include various panels and presentations, including a class

with former US Attorney General John Ashcroft.

CBPS Will I walk away knowing what steps to take to apply?

Admissions_Bonnie Definitely, but let's talk about those tonight as well. The steps are ordered for you at

www.regent.edu/lawapply

CBPS ok

Greeter_Sarah Hi, Dean Gantt!

Dean_Gantt Hi, everyone!

Greeter_Sarah We just got started.

Admissions_Bonnie Our Dean of Students and our assistant director of career and alumni services are also

joining us tonight.

Admissions_Bonnie And a law wife as well. Welcome, Lan

Greeter_Sarah Hi Lan!

Law_Wife_Lan Hi everyone!

CBPS hello

Admissions_Bonnie CBPS, have you graduated from college? Where did/do you attend?

Greeter_Sarah Hi Kerriel! Thanks for joining us!

Page 2: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

CBPS Yes..

CBPS I having been teaching school for 21 years.

Alumni_Kerriel had a few technical difficulties, but glad to be here

CBPS Not your average age law student

Alumni_Kerriel neither was I

Admissions_Bonnie You might find it interesting that our age range for this year's incoming class was 19-49

Dean_Gantt CBPS, that's o.k. We have a lot of students who come after taking some time away

from school.

sabrena hello everyone

Greeter_Sarah Welcome, Sabrena.

Greeter_Sarah Please jump right in!

sabrena thank you

CBPS I'm definitely at the end of that bracket!

CBPS Not sure if I should try part time or full time... Will finish masters degree next week.

Dean_Gantt CBPS, and actually, we've had several students in their 50s and 60s over the years.

CBPS That does make me feel better.

sabrena how many law students are currently in the part-time program

Greeter_Sarah CBPS: Our Fall 2010 entering class average ages were as follows: Full-Time: 25 (with

an age range of 19-49); Part-Time: 33 (with an age range of 26-49)

Career_Kathy Also, CBPS you are in school now so the transition to law school should be easier for

you than if you've been away for a while

mrtillman i was actually concerned about that too

CBPS true but the volume of study should be greater corrrect?

Dean_Gantt Sabrena, we have about 8-10 in each entering class in the program. Bonnie, do you

have the exact numbers?

mrtillman i graduated in 2005 and haven't been in a classroom for more than the occasional

knowledge share

Admissions_Bonnie Our part-time program is actually pretty small compared to the full-time program.

This year, 4 students came in as part-time students and 164 as full-time.

Dean_Gantt CBPS, yes, I would expect that the intensity of your study experience will be greater in

law school.

CBPS Wow... my concern with taking a longer time to graduate means of course my age

increases... therefore what are job opportunities like

Dean_Gantt Thanks, Bonnie. I do think we've had larger numbers in previous classes.

Alumni_Kerriel And of course there are the part-time students from other classes as well as just the

incoming class

mrtillman based on the interest that you have seen recently do expect the class size to increase?

mrtillman incoming class

Page 3: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

sabrena Are there many evening classes available for first year law students

Dean_Gantt CBPS, you're question is a good one for Kerriel. She recently graduated and entered

the market as a "second-career" student. She opened up her own practice and is

doing well!

Admissions_Bonnie Just today, I spoke with our dean about our anticipated class size for fall 2011. Early

discussions are to start 160 students.

Career_Kathy CBPS- there are many factors that are involved in finding a job. There are certain

employers that prefer people with real life experience so that can work to your favor

Greeter_Sarah Sabrena - there are no evening classes for our 1Ls.

Greeter_Sarah Ours is a day program, even for our part-time students.

CBPS that's good news... How many hours of study would one anticipate in your first year?

Dean_Gantt Sabrena, the part-time program allows students to take a lighter load to allow them

more flexibility to schedule their classes during the day.

Greeter_Sarah Welcome, Kate. Please jump right in with your questions!

Admissions_Bonnie 16 credit hours for fall; 15 credit hours for spring (full-time); typically 12 and 11 I

believe for part-time.

Alumni_Kerriel First off, I would say that God has a plan for your future and your career. He knows

the economy, your age, and life experience. :)

Dean_Gantt CPBS, I tell students to anticipate studying three hours for every hour of class time.

CBPS ok...

Alumni_Kerriel CBPS--I LOVE the solo practice of law. God knew what He was doing, even though solo

practice and starting my own firm were not what I thought I'd be doing.

CBPS what kind of law do you practice

sabrena Kerriel, how challenging was it to start your own firm?

Alumni_Kerriel I have a general solo practice, but primarily it falls into the areas of family law,, juvenile

law, random traffic cases, animal cases etc, and bankruptcy

CBPS ok... i'm interested in constitutional law at this point

Alumni_Kerriel My favorite is representing children, whether in foster care, abuse and neglect, divorce

or custody and visitation cases and juvenile delinquincy

CBPS I certainly understand that as I am an elementary school teacher.

Dean_Gantt CBPS, we have many students interested in the Constitutional Law area. For instance,

several of our students have the opportunity to work for the ACLJ.

money how can you represent children without opening a practice?

Alumni_Kerriel The bottom line with starting your own firm is to do your research. Count the cost.

Prayerfully seek God's best for you and HE will guide and provide all you need.

CBPS I am very familiar with ACLJ

Law_Wife_Lan My husband works at ACLJ and has loved it.

Page 4: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Admissions_Bonnie Money, any questions tonight?

Dean_Gantt CBPS, we have an externship program with the ACLJ and also a semester-long program

in D.C.

CBPS That's great! My husband and I follow the news of what they are up to...

Alumni_Kerriel Well, you can work for a firm that allows/encourages you to take on court-appointed

cases. You follow the rules of your particular state, then get on a list where you take

juvenile cases appointed by the court

CBPS ok...

Alumni_Kerriel I worked for the ACLJ in law school and also participated in the DC program. It was

AMAZING@

Dean_Gantt Kerriel,

Alumni_Kerriel Hey Dean Gantt!

CBPS My only concern is how late in life I'm doing this... and can I endure law school. Of

course I will not be working.

Dean_Gantt Kerriel, I need to follow up with you about the D.C. program. I'll give you a call!

Alumni_Kerriel sounds good, you know where to find me!

CBPS If I take the LSAT in Feb. can I get in for the 2011 fall term?

Alumni_Kerriel There are so many benefits to being an "older" student. Particularly when it comes to

life experience. Don't discount the value you bring to the table, both in the classroom

and in the practice of law.

Admissions_Bonnie Yes, we accept Feb lsat scores. However, we ask that you submit your application by

Feb 1. We'll attach the score when it comes in.

Dean_Gantt CBPS, I am continually amazed at our students who go back to law school after being

out of school for years. Many of them do well because they've been out of awhile and

are very serious about devoting themselves to their studies.

Alumni_Kerriel There is also a measure of common sense that comes with experience.

CBPS What is the average LSAT score... my gpa wasn't great as I was in college for other

reasons... My masters gpa is 4.0

mrtillman i may be working part-time, do you recommend going into the full-time program or

the part-time?

CBPS will they look at master's gpa?

sabrena If a student wants to transfer from a non-ABA accredited law school, how difficult will

the process be?

Admissions_Bonnie THis year's LSAT average was 153 with a 3.2 UGPA. Completed master's degrees are

also considered as a part of the overall application.

CBPS that's good news...

Admissions_Bonnie The ABA restrictions students to 20 hours per week of work if they are taking more

than 12 credit hours (full-time).

Page 5: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Dean_Gantt Mrtillman, You can be a full-time student and work up to 20 hours per ABA

requirements, but I strongly recommend that you go part-time if you're going to have

to work a significant number of hours. As we noted above, the study of law is very

time intenstive, and you don't want to take on too much.

Greeter_Sarah Welcome, JThomas.

Greeter_Sarah Please feel free to jump in with questions!

Dean_Gantt Sabrena,

jthomas Thank you, Hi everyone.

Admissions_Bonnie Scholarships and grants, however, are typically stronger for full-time students.

jthomas Are there automatic considerations for scholarships?

Alumni_Kerriel mrtillman--especially true for your first year of law school. Often students can add

work their second and third years, but full-time law school doesn't leave much time for

working.

Dean_Gantt Sabrena, oops, I pressed the enter key too quickly. Transferring from a non-ABA

school is something we'd have to look at on an individual basis. There are ABA limits

on how many credits we could take.

mrtillman ok

CBPS One more quick question and I'll say goodnite... papers to grade. How are the

professors are they the typical law professors...

Admissions_Bonnie Yes, merit and leadership awards are automatically awarded based on the application

documents, recommendations, etc.

Greeter_Sarah Kee - would you like to comment on the professors?

Alumni_Kerriel Well, law school is very different. With the exception of your legal writing course, you

don't have assignments or papers that are graded. Your grade for the course is based

solely on your final exam in the course (with occassional courses also having a midterm

exam)

Student_Kee I can speak to the professors. I don't know what exactly you intend by "typical", but I

have enjoyed all my professors so far at Regent. They are involved and always willing

to help me understand the material ..

Student_Kee i'm in process :)

Greeter_Sarah oh, good. :)

Dean_Gantt CBPS, I am continually encouraged by the strong relationship between our students

and faculty; I'm glad Kee jumped in on that one. I'll add that students "rate" our

faculty as one of the primary strengths of our school when they complete our

questionnaire at graduation.

jthomas Thank you. I would like to know if being out of undergraduate school for two years and

an experience working for one year with a public school district and receiving letters of

recommendations is good for my applicant profile?

Student_Kee All of my professors are knowledgeable in their field and are wonderful at sharing that

knowlege with the students.

Page 6: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

CBPS I have heard that professors in law school are very intimidating... I wouldn't think they

would be at Regent.

Admissions_Bonnie jthomas, that description sounds very positive.

Alumni_Kerriel I agree with Kee! The professors at Regent are truly amazing. Both during law school

and afterward. Just got an FYI email from a former professor this week advising about

a new trend in a particular area of law.

Dean_Gantt CBPS, professors often lead devotions during class, and some conduct Bible studies

and prayer groups with the students.

Student_Kee I wouldn't describe the professors as intimidating. They're much smarter than I of

course, but thats a positive.

Alumni_Kerriel I can't speak highly enough about Regent Law profs.

jthomas Question for Admissions_Bonnie, would I still need undergraduate faculty letters of

recommendation?

Greeter_Sarah Welcome CynGarcia - pleae feel free to ask us your questions!

CynGarcia I haveso many but I dont know where to start

Admissions_Bonnie We require one faculty recommendation if you have graduated within the last five

years from undergrad. If you can provide a letter from a master's program, that is a

positive as well.

Greeter_Sarah welcome, UVA2001.

Greeter_Sarah Please let us know your questions!

Admissions_Bonnie Cyn, just throw one out!

uva2001 Thanks Sarah

jthomas Thank you Admissions_Bonnie

CynGarcia When do applications need to be turned in to be reviewed

uva2001 Good evening everyone

Admissions_Bonnie I just accepted our first student yesterday. However, our priority consideration date is

Feb 1.

CynGarcia Good evening uva2001

jthomas Good evening uva2001

CBPS Thank you all for your help... God bless and hope to see you in Oct.

Admissions_Bonnie CynGarcia, I'm waiting for that first question...

Dean_Gantt You're welcome, CBPS!

Greeter_Sarah Thanks for stopping by, CBPS!

Admissions_Bonnie Thank you for joining us.

Student_Kee Bye, CBPS!

CynGarcia I amcurrently unemployed and two degrees of which I have yet to begin paying

student loans for. How will this affect getting financial aid or scholarships

Greeter_Sarah Welcome, Lela!

CBPS You've been very encouraging! goodnite

Lela Hello! Thanks for having me!

Alumni_Kerriel Goodnight CBPS

Greeter_Sarah Kledia - would you like to take CynGarcia's question?

Admissions_Bonnie FinAid_Kledia is with us as well, but generally your loans will go into deferment once

you enroll in law school.

Page 7: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

mrtillman is the work load for joint programs significantly more challenging?

FinAid_Kledia GynGarcia - Your eligibility for financial aid, primarily federal aid will depend on what

you've utilized at this point (subsidized/unsubsidized loans). However, I'm confident

we can find the funding for you via Grad Plus loans and scholarships

Admissions_Bonnie Joint degree students typically add one additional year of student to their coursework.

Admissions_Bonnie Our most popular joint degree is with Government.

Lela I was wondering if I could talk to someone about LSAT score's and also the military

FinAid_Kledia As Bonnie mentioned, you will not have to initiate repayment on the loans until you

graduate

Admissions_Bonnie Students apply to both programs and should they be accepted to both, they decide

where they will begin their program.

mrtillman are there many students enrolled in joint programs?

mrtillman ok

CynGarcia well my thoughts were to get them out of default then apply at law schools which i

thought yours might begin in the Fall of 2011. Is Fall when your programs begin?

Admissions_Bonnie We strongly recommend doing the first year in Government (or the other school) and

then rolling over into law the second year.

mrtillman ok, just wondering why is that?

Admissions_Bonnie All 1Ls begin in August.

Dean_Gantt mrtillman, I recommend that students begin with their other degree so that they can

end with their three years of law school.

uva2001 For students who have been out of undergrad for 9 years or more, how important is

the undergrad GPA as opposed to work experience, recommendations, life

experiences, LSAT etc.

Admissions_Bonnie Less time between law school and the bar exam.

FinAid_Kledia GynGarcia - that's a great thought. You must clear Default prior to obtaining additional

federal funds

mrtillman ahhh, makes sense

Dean_Gantt mrtillman, yes, I agree with Bonnie.

Greeter_Sarah Welcome, Josephine! Please jump on in!

Lela What other aspects does Regent take into consideration besides just the LSAT?

Kate Thank you admission Bonnie. When is the best time to apply for Admission at Regent

School of Law.

Admissions_Bonnie UVa, life experiences, recs, LSAT and GPA are all important to the decision process.

You should prepare very thoroughly for the LSAT.

josephine Hello, God bless you all!

Admissions_Bonnie Apps should arrive by Feb 1 please.

Dean_Gantt Lela, we consider the whole file: your personal statement, letters of recommendation,

undergraduate and graduate (if any) grades.

CynGarcia Hello Josephine

Page 8: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Dean_Gantt Hi, Josephine!

Admissions_Bonnie UVA, were you acquainted with Eileen Oswald, prelaw advisor at UVA?

josephine do we need to submit our transcrips to Regent as well, or just LSAC?

Lela ok thank you...my other question is do your students intern a lot with the Navy's JAG

program in Norfolk? If accepted to Regent, I am going into the Navy for the JAG

program...

Admissions_Bonnie Transcripts go to LSAC first. Admitted studented will then have to provide a second set

of 'degree conferred' transcript to my office by July 1.

uva2001 Yes, I believe she was there prior to graduation. I graduated in 2001

Greeter_Sarah Hi Rap717. Welcome!

jthomas Dream question for you all. Would there be a clinical or extra/co-curricular that would

allow me to gain experience as in house counsel or representative for licensed health

professionals?

Kate Hello Admission Bonnie. When is the best time to apply for Admission

Career_Kathy Lela- Yes, we work very closely with the local JAG offices. For instance, the Air Force

JAG is coming to do a presentation and individual meetings on Monday and the Navy

JAG comes later this month.

Greeter_Sarah And Army JAG was here yesterday!

Admissions_Bonnie Kate, anytime between now and Feb 1

Lela awesome!

Lela that's great news for me!

uva2001 Does Regent Law offer abroad opportunites in China? I have an interest in public

interest and international human rights.

Dean_Gantt Lela, yes, we have several students who intern with JAG offices. Also, we have several

students who end up working as a JAG officers.

Career_Kathy Lela - our director of Career Services served as an Army JAG attorney before coming to

Regent as well

CynGarcia Would I beallowed to come tour the campus before applying or would that be

afterwards? I have only read through the catalogue I requested two years ago and

have wanted to visit since. Do we schedule a tour?

josephine What's the best way to prepare for LSAT?

rap717 Does RL offer communications law focus?

Dean_Gantt UVA, we have an exchange program with a university in China, but it's relatively new,

and no student yet has studied there.

Admissions_Bonnie For info on our China program at Shantou Univer, visit www.regent.edu/lawabroad

uva2001 Interesting!

uva2001 Thank you!

Greeter_Sarah CynGarcia, you are welcome to visit at any time!

Page 9: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Greeter_Sarah We have an open house on Oct. 15, a Preview weekend, Nov 18-20, and other open

houses next semester.

Lela who is the director of career services at Regent?

uva2001 What impact does the Spiritual Life Recommendation have on the admissions

decision?

Admissions_Bonnie CynGarcia -- absolutely! We encourage all of our prospective students to visit campus.

We have several "scheduled" open houses, but we will accommodate your preferred

visitiaton date any week day. Just call ahead 2-3 days.

CynGarcia Awesome!

Greeter_Sarah for more info, visit www.regent.edu/lawvisit. But as Bonnie said, you're welcome to

come at any time!

Dean_Gantt Rap717, I'm not sure I know what you mean by communications law. We do offer

courses in Entertainment Law and Sports Law as well as IP courses.

Greeter_Sarah Welcome, Birdie4President.

Greeter_Sarah Please ask your questions!

Birdie4President thank you

Greeter_Sarah Hi tbaldwin! Please jump on in

tbaldwin Well... I was hoping that someone could answer my question on here

Admissions_Bonnie UVA, the spiritual recommendation helps us to understand the applicant's passion and

fit with Regent. We are a faith-based institution. Our classes begin with prayer and

devotion.

CynGarcia Hw long does the process take before we are notified if we have been accepted at

Regent

josephine Who is the dean of the School of Law?

Dean_Gantt josephine, the Dean is Jeffrey A. Brauch

Greeter_Sarah Sure, tbaldwin. What is it?

uva2001 I truly like the start of class with prayer and devotion :-)

josephine Is there a way to save this chat and go over the Q&A again?

rap717 Dean_Ganti, FCC rules, first amendment and the press, international communications

law, copyright, intellectual property, Internet etc.

Admissions_Bonnie CynGarcia, once your file becomes 'complete' you will typically receive a decision

within three weeks.

Lela If we have our materials submitted in the first half of October, when do you think a

decision about my application would be made?

tbaldwin Is the earliest we can send in our application October 15?

CynGarcia ok So although i have these financial aid concerns would you suggest I still apply before

February 1st?

Greeter_Sarah Josephine - we will have a chat log up on our website within the next week or two.

Admissions_Bonnie You may send in applications now. Our committee begins regular meetings in late

December though we may start the process slightly earlier this year.

Page 10: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

tbaldwin If our file becomes complete in October we should know by December?

josephine which is the best number/person to contact to help with preparation to LSAT?

Dean_Gantt Well, as I noted, we have IP courses, and we have many First Amendment-related

courses. We don't have courses in pure communications law, like those who would

study FCC rules. I actually practiced with a firm that did communications law in D.C.;

that's a highly specialized area. We do, however, offer courses in the other areas you

mentioned. As for Internet Law, we have offered an elective in

Dean_Gantt that area, but it's not a regular offering.

CynGarcia I tried pulling my loans out of default this past February but the Dept. of Education lost

my first payment and i was leary of sending them more money.

uva2001 What is the LSAT range of accepted students

FinAid_Kledia CynGarcia - regarding your financial aid concerns, i'd be glad to assist you in resolving

them. I would recommend you still apply.

Admissions_Bonnie The lsac website, www.lsac.org offers very helpful guidance on lsat preparation. We

also hold an LSAT workshop on our campus in October for $75/two consecutive

Saturdays.

josephine What score is required on the test for admission?

rap717 Can students from other Divisions, ie. Arts and Communications take law courses?

Admissions_Bonnie Cyn, I suggest you call our finaid office and they can speak with you privately.

757.352.4125.

Dean_Gantt rap717, I should add that, although we have a lot of international-law related courses,

we don't have a course in international communications issues.

FinAid_Kledia CynGarcia -- I can understand that frustration. Contact our office when you can so that

we can see how we can help you.

rap717 Dean_Gantt, thanks.

Admissions_Bonnie Josephine, our average test score for this year's incoming class was 153. It's hard to

say what minimum is required because so many other factors contribute to a decision.

Greeter_Sarah welcome, Kjholmes!

kjholmes Hey :)

tbaldwin If our file becomes complete by October, will we know by December if we get

accepted or not?

Dean_Gantt rap717, yes, I was also thinking to underscore that we do have a School of

Communications and the Arts; and that school has wonderful programs in that area.

We don't have a lot of students from that school who take law courses, but we have

had a small number. For instance, we just had a Comm School student who took our

Negotiations class.

CynGarcia Thank you so much. I am feeling better already! I can apply online correct?

Page 11: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Lela thank you all for answering all of my questions...I do appreciate it! Have a good night!

Dean_Gantt Blessings, Lela!

Admissions_Bonnie tbaldwin, you could potentially have a decision by December. It depends on when our

committee's first meeting is scheduled. But yes, it is a possibility for December --

definitely by Jan.

Greeter_Sarah Goodnight, lela. Thanks for coming!

Greeter_Sarah Welcome, gradjac!

kjholmes I have some questions, but some of them aren't really about school.

tbaldwin Okay thanks Admissions..

Alumni_Kerriel what types of questions kjholmes?

Admissions_Bonnie You can apply on line at www.regent.edu/lawapply or via LSAC's eapp website.

kjholmes Well, one of them is actually about the whether in Virgina Beach.

josephine on the application, it talks about sending separate applications to other schools you

might be interested in. How does it work?

kjholmes I have a motorcycle, but someone told me that it rains a lot there.

rap717 I've applied for the Ph.D program, and broadcast law and issues was always one of my

areas of interest.

uva2001 Regarding graduate transcripts, are they factored in admissions decision?

tbaldwin Also, if I submit my application online through lsac how do I send you my essay?

Dean_Gantt kjholmes, I think we have great weather here--not too hot or cold!

tbaldwin and how do I get you my regent-specific recommendation?

Dean_Gantt kjhomes. it does rain a fair amount, but I'd say it's typical for the East Coast.

Student_Kee kjholmes, I agree with Dean Gantt. The weather is a great balance here.

kjholmes Hahaha..okay, well I'm coming from upper Michigan, so I'm sure it's nice compared to

here.

uva2001 Also, in terms of LSAT, does RL take the highest score?

Student_Kee We have seasons, which is unique compared to the areas Ive lived in before.

Dean_Gantt kjhomes. definitely milder here!

Alumni_Kerriel The weather here varies. We have had rain today and yesterday, but otherwise it's

been a pretty dry year. We don't ususally have snow, but we did last year. It's a lovely

place to live

Greeter_Sarah I know lots of people with motorcycles, KJ - they get plenty of riding in.

Admissions_Bonnie Right now it's raining and 76 degrees.

Greeter_Sarah But, if that's your only form of transportation, you will get wet sometimes.

Greeter_Sarah Hi Britt! Welcome.

Admissions_Bonnie All lsat scores are considered; the highest is heavily weighted.

Page 12: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Britt Hello

kjholmes Another questions is about how far away the housing is from campus? Is it close

enough to walk?

Admissions_Bonnie Graduate experience is considered so please send your grad transcripts to LSAC.

CynGarcia LSAT is the Law SAT right?

tbaldwin How can I send my essay in if I do my application online through LSAC?

Dean_Gantt uva2001, to answer your question, yes, we do look at graduate school transcripts, and

they can be very important if you've been out of undergraduate school for a long time.

uva2001 Law School Admissions Test=LSAT

Admissions_Bonnie On campus housing is a half mile away; some students walk, but most take the shuttle.

CynGarcia ok i thought so

gradjac Is it important to submit an evaluators letter with letters of recommendations

money is post undergrad work.. not grad work considered as well?

Admissions_Bonnie Personal statements can be transmitted online through LSAC.

josephine Does Regent offer public transportation/buses/school buses to students whether on

campus or not?

tbaldwin even the regent-specific one?

uva2001 Thank you Dean Natt because I have been out of undergrad for 9 years now.

Dean_Gantt Josephine, we do if you're on campus, but not if you're not.

josephine what format is recommended for the recommendation letters?

Admissions_Bonnie We accept LSAC's new evaluation form OR traditional letters of recommendation.

kjholmes Does Regent have a dress code?

tbaldwin How do I send my essay in and my regent-specific LOR's?

Dean_Gantt uva2001, how did you know my first name "Natt"?! I do have a different name, I

admit!

gradjac Do you have to have health insurance in order to attend on campus?

tbaldwin Should I just mail it?

Admissions_Bonnie The Regent-specific online PDF app from our website is also acceptable. Email personal

statements to us at [email protected]

tbaldwin In an attachment?

Admissions_Bonnie There is no prescribed format for letters of recommendation although you can find a

sample format on our website.

Alumni_Kerriel I think the dress code is still the same as when I was there...no beach attire. But my

philosopy on dress code is to dress for the job you want, not the job you have. It has

served me well over the years

tbaldwin If we use the regent specific form can we mail it to you or what?

Alumni_Kerriel If I want to be a lawyer, then I sould dress like a lawyer

Page 13: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Dean_Gantt kjholmes, we do have a dress code, but it is not very restrictive. Modest casual attire

is appropriate; I would agree with Kerriel.

Greeter_Sarah I've often heard it said that you just never know who you might meet in law school -

and you should dress accordingly.

uva2001 I have researched the RL website. I have read correspondence with your name from

RL.

Admissions_Bonnie Or you can mail it.

tbaldwin We need a LOR from a clergy member right?

Dean_Gantt uva2001, got it! And I like the sound of Dean Natt!

Admissions_Bonnie Most students dress in a smart casual style (Khaki pants and polo shirts for

gentlemen).

gradjac Will taking the LSAT in February be too late for August enrollment? Is it pushing it too

close

josephine How challenging are law classes? what format are they offered in? mostly essays?

Career_Kathy Agreed, we have numerous judges and outside attorneys who use our law library,

come to speak, etc. so you never know who you are going to meet!

uva2001 Thanks Dean Natt! :-)

Admissions_Bonnie Yes, a spiritual recommendation is required. The form is also on our website or on the

LSAC eapp.

kjholmes Does Regent have a gym?

tbaldwin Is it easiest to just mail that to you?

Admissions_Bonnie Feb LSAT scores are acceptable, but please do submit your app by Feb 1.

Greeter_Sarah KJ - no gym on campus, except a small workout room in the on-campus housing. But.

Student_Kee I think that the level of challange of law school classes depends greatly on how

prepared you are coming in and how you process information. Ive had a mix of exams

in both MC and essay.

Alumni_Kerriel It's true, I come use the law library fairly regularly.

Dean_Gantt Josephine, the students should chime in, but I estimate that you will find the law

classes to be very challenging. Most classes only have one final exam at the end of the

semester; that exam may be essay questions and multiple-choice or just straight essay.

Greeter_Sarah We do get a discounted rate at OneLife Fitness (formerly Gold's Gym), the YMCA's, and

the VB rec center.

Alumni_Kerriel I always see other lawyers or local judges when I'm on campus

uva2001 How many students are generally admitted into a 1L class at RL? And, how extensive

can the waitlist be on any given year?

Greeter_Sarah There are also Bally's and Planet Fitness in the area.

kjholmes Thanks, Sarah. You had me worried for a second there. Haha

CynGarcia Thank you for your answers to my questions. I will becontacting you soon. Good night!

Admissions_Bonnie Three gyms in the Regent vicinity: Regent Commons (housing), YMCA (right across the

street), Founders Inn (our on-campus hotel)

Page 14: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

gradjac Would I have to wait util the Summer for admissions decison if I graduate in May

Dean_Gantt Josephine, I should add that most classes are conducted in a modified-Socractic format

in which the professors will call on students to contribute to the class discussion.

Greeter_Sarah No problem! I've been asked that before. And the OneLife is about 5 minutes away

and pretty nice.

Britt How are schlorships awarded?

tbaldwin Can I send the LOR'S through LSAC and then mail my spiritual life form in?

Admissions_Bonnie gradjac, no we can render a decision on your application as long as you have

completed 90 hours of study.

Dean_Gantt tbaldwin, yes.

uva2001 Are scholarships awarded on LSAT score alone or from a holistic perspective?

tbaldwin So, I send my personal statement in through e-mail?

Greeter_Sarah Britt - scholarships are primarily merit-based, and range from $500-full tuition, based

on your LSAT, GPA, and the rest of your admission application

kjholmes As far as visiting campus, I can't make it on any of the set-aside days. Can I visit at

another time and still get a tour, etc.?

Admissions_Bonnie Scholarships are awarded on merit (155 LSAT and 3.0 UGPA). We also have leadership,

public interest, denominational, and other opportunities as well.

Dean_Gantt tbaldwin, I'm not sure if we accept it via e-mail. Bonnie will know, Bonnie?

Greeter_Sarah Sure, KJ. Please just give our office a call a few days in advance, and we'd be happy to

set up a visit for you on a Monday-Friday.

Greeter_Sarah We do accept personal statements through email, TBaldwin.

Britt How far isn the school from the airport? I will be flying in from Alabama?

tbaldwin What is the best way to send it for you guys?

Dean_Gantt Britt, the airport is about 15 minutes away.

Greeter_Sarah We're only about 15-20 minutes from Norfolk International, one of the best airports in

the country, in my opinion!

Britt Do you have shuttle?

Admissions_Bonnie Merit scholarships require at least a 155 and 3.0. Other awards are granted on the

whole of the file.

tbaldwin What is the best way to send my personal statement in?

Admissions_Bonnie 20 minutes for Norfolk International Airport.

Greeter_Sarah The Founders Inn offers a shuttle service if you stay at their hotel. Regent does not.

Greeter_Sarah But Founders is on our c ampus

Greeter_Sarah Welcome, JS!

gradjac Do we have to wait for our lsat scores in order to recieve an admissions decision?

Page 15: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Dean_Gantt Britt, the Founders Inn is the hotel connected with the University.

Admissions_Bonnie Founders Inn will arrange a shuttle pickup for you for a modest fee $15-20 I believe.

uva2001 I am interested in the Perspectives Overview Day on October 9th? Is tht right?

Admissions_Bonnie Gradjac, we would not admit a student without lsat scores.

Britt What do I need to do strengthen my chances to be accepted?

Greeter_Sarah UVA - I'm not sure what you are referring to - there may be a different open house on

that day.

kjholmes What kind of a city is Virginia Beach? I mean, is it more laid back or does it have a "big

city" feeling?

Dean_Gantt Britt, as someone on the Admissions Committee, I would recommend focusing on your

LSAT score and grades. Also, writing a good personal statement is key as well as

having good recommendations.

Greeter_Sarah The law school visitation day is Oct. 15.

Greeter_Sarah KJ - I love VB.

uva2001 That's it! Thanks Greeter Sarah.

Greeter_Sarah It doesn't feel like a "big city" at all, yet it has all the amenities.

Greeter_Sarah any concert you could possibly want to see comes here - Christian and secular.

Law_Wife_Lan kjholmes, I think it's pretty laid back. I come from a small town.

Admissions_Bonnie Prepare carefully for your LSAT, write a responsive and Regent-specific statement,

apply by Feb 1, submit three recommendations or evaluations from people who know

you in an academic, professional capacity. Plus, one spiritual recommendation and

resume.

josephine what's the best number to reach when we have more questions, who is the best

person to help us, is this chat session being archived, and are the LAW courses offered

on a separate campus, or are all departments of study on one camous?

Greeter_Sarah We're about 20 minutes from the beach.

Student_Kee I love VB as well. Its nice because we have so many options for activities yet the

"country" is just a small drive away. Also, the outlet malls are nearby in WIlliamsburg!!

Greeter_Sarah 45 from Williamsburg. And 3 1/2 from DC.

Dean_Gantt kjholmes, I would say that VB is more "laid back." It's spread out with large suburban

sprawl.

Britt Accept for Clergy (which I will have no problem getting), who would you suggest write

recommendation letters?

Greeter_Sarah welcome, Scott!

kjholmes Good. I am from a tiny town, and I am a little worried about it.

tbaldwin Is it best to send my personal statement through or e-mail or mail?

Scott K Hello Everyone

Page 16: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Dean_Gantt josephine, I can answer one of your questions now. All our courses are offered here

on our VB campus.

gradjac How would you suggest preparing for the LSAT?

Admissions_Bonnie All lawstudents study on-campus in Virginia Beach. THis chat will be posted to our

website in the next week. Further questions may be directed to

[email protected] or 757.352.4584.

Dean_Gantt Hi, Scott!

Law_Wife_Lan Good thing about living here in VB is there are so many things to do...unlike the small

town I'm from.

JS Hi, I had a few questions about Regent University. Firstly, what makes Regent stand

out among law schools? Secondly, what scholarships are offered?

Britt How is housing awarded?

tbaldwin Are there formals for the law students?

Admissions_Bonnie Letters should come from a faculty member who taught you a substantive course

within the last five years. You may submit two fac recs if you like. Also you should

submit a general rec from someone in a position of authority or leadership.

Greeter_Sarah Tbaldwin - whichever format you prefer for the personal statement is fine.

tbaldwin Thanks Sarah

gradjac By the way, I dove into my questions without saying Hello to everyone! Hello,

Student_Kee @tbaldwin, We have a Barristers Ball in the spring of each year. It is planned by the

Student Bar Association and is generally located at a local hotel ballroom.

FinAid_Kledia JS - There's quite a few scholarships available to law students. Visit this link for a list:

http://www.regent.edu/acad/schlaw/admissions/faid_scholarships.cfm

Greeter_Sarah there's also a university-wide Christmas ball..

Admissions_Bonnie JS, scholarships are awarded based on academic merit (155 lsat and up and 3.0 ugpa)

and also leadership, public interest, etc.

tbaldwin Can students bring someone who does not go to school at regent law?

Career_Kathy For sure!

Student_Kee @tbaldwin ... to barristers? Yes.

Admissions_Bonnie Accepted students may apply for on-campus housing (www.regent.edu/housing) after

paying their $300 seat deposit.

Dean_Gantt JS, I think there are several things that make our school stand out, but I would focus on

(1) our Christian integration; (2) our excellent advocacy and writing skills training; and

(3) our desire for our students to become servant leaders. The Christian atmosphere

also leads to strong relationships between our students and faculty.

Page 17: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

kjholmes How connected is Regent with the ACLJ? I am interested in human rights, and I would

really value having a connectiong like that.

tbaldwin sounds fun....

Greeter_Sarah Hi Ryan - welcome!

Ryan Larson hello

Scott K Great that means that Sherra (my wife) is going to expect me to learn how to dance

kjholmes Hahahah @Scott K

Career_Kathy kjholmes - The ACLJ does an externship program for students to work there, they hire

students to work as interns and they accept volunteers.

Scott K ;)

Britt Does the school offer interships?

Greeter_Sarah There's actually a ballroom dance class usually offered in the fall to students for a

HUGELY reduced rated. :)

Alumni_Kerriel That's ok, there are often dance lessons offered before the Barrister's Ball.

Dean_Gantt kjholmes, also, we have a semester-long program for students to work and study at

the ACLJ offices in D.C.

JS Okay, thanks, Dean_Gantt and FinAid_Kledia.

Ryan Larson so who do i address my questions to?

Career_Kathy Britt- We assist you in finding internships and offer a few internship programs such as

the Judicial Intern Program where we place students with local judges/courts.

kjholmes Okay, thanks Dean Gantt.

Greeter_Sarah And, the ACLJ has an office in our building, and Jay Sekulow is on our campus.

Admissions_Bonnie The ACLJ is located on our 4th floor. Jay Sekulow teaches in our program. We offer a

Semester in DC program in the leadership of Jay Sekulow.

Alumni_Kerriel Ryan, just jump right in!

Greeter_Sarah *our faculty

Scott K wow I will really need that do they have a special section for clumsy people?

Scott K Thats awesome Dean Gantt

Greeter_Sarah well, having taken it, Scott, that would be most of the class.

Admissions_Bonnie Question may be directed to [email protected]

josephine Thank you for answering my questions! Is there a tutoring place/former

students/graduates to help us?

Greeter_Sarah Ryan - just throw them out there and the appropriate person will answer them.

Britt Does the school opffer academic support to students?

JS So, what's the average student:instructor ratio at Regent?

Page 18: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Dean_Gantt Britt, we don't offer internal internships, but our Career Services offices does a great

job of connecting our students with local internship opportunities. Also, many

students pursue internships back in their home area, given that we have students from

all over the country.

Ryan Larson integration of faith and law, whats that all about?

Alumni_Kerriel josephine-there are alumni mentors that offer advice and support as well as 2Ls and

3Ls that can assist

kjholmes As far as the internships to Strausburg go, do you have to apply to go? Meaning that

can everyone who signs up go?

Admissions_Bonnie For folks interested in international law, our study abroad program in Strasbourg

France is very popular.

uva2001 what % of RL graduates do judicial clerkships?

Career_Kathy Yes, the Career Services Office will work with you from Nov. 1 of your first year to

work on finding internships and eventually a full time position with you.

Kate Hi Dean Grantt: Are Religious Courses offered at Regent Law School?.

Dean_Gantt Josephine, I direct our Academic Success Program, and we have study skills workshops

for students as well as another faculty member, Prof. Gloria Whittico, who is here to

serve as an academic coach for students.

Britt Bar passage ratio?

Admissions_Bonnie That's Strasbourg; sorry.

Career_Kathy We also offer over 200 Resume Collections and approx. 50 on-campus interview

opportunities throughout the year

Greeter_Sarah welcome, Syharris!

uva2001 How long is the Strasbourg France program?

Greeter_Sarah Ryan - Dean Gantt will be able to answer your question.

Greeter_Sarah I think he got tied up answering a few others.

Admissions_Bonnie Regent had the second highest bar pass rate in VA for our most recent bar takers. One

% point behind Washington & Lee.

uva2001 Impressive!

Dean_Gantt Ryan, there's a lot we could say on that topic, but I would summarize by saying that we

spend time in all our classes reflecting on what it means to study that topic from a

Christian perspective. Therefore, professors will discuss biblical passages or views

from Christian thinkers throughout history to add to the discussion of the legal

principles in the course.

josephine Thanks! Alumni_Kerriel! How does Regent's Scholl of Law rank compared to Harvard's?

Admissions_Bonnie Five weeks, first week of July to first week of Aug. Students study international human

rights, comparative law, civil liberties and national security, and origins of the Western

legal tradition.

Ryan Larson will we be tested on the biblical passages or christian perspectives?

syharris Thanks, Sarah

Page 19: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Admissions_Bonnie Well Dean Gantt is a Harvard graduate, but I believe we took the title away from them

in a recent national ABA competition.

Dean_Gantt Ryan, it depends on the class. Some professors do not, but some will ask you to reflect

on that material in your exams.

uva2001 Interesting!

Alumni_Kerriel As our Dean Brauch says "we don't need more lawyers, just a different kind of lawyer"

That's what I strive to do every day in my law practice...be a different kind of lawyer.

kjholmes I would really love to do the internship to Strasbourg, but I'm wondering if there are

some people that want to go but can't. Is there some kind of application process that

eliminates certain people for different reasons?

Scott K My wife Sherra wants to ask how the housing works for families with kids only part of

the time. Would we be able to have the 3 bedroom to accommodate the kids when

they are with us, or would we have to settle for something smaller?

Ryan Larson Is it necessary to be a chrisitian then basically to attend your law school?

uva2001 I like the motto "The law profession is a calling" Very Factual!

Britt Are you looking for that different kind of student?

josephine Is there a language restriction? /politically-incorrect, too religious, too christianese?

Dean_Gantt Ryan, also, I should add that one of our key courses is Christian Foundations of Law,

which students take their first semester. In that course, students read philosophers

and theologians from such diverse perspectives as Thomas Aquinas and Martin Luther

King, Jr.

Admissions_Bonnie Scott, yes you could apply for a three-bedroom apartment.

Alumni_Kerriel Josephine, I think Dean Gantt can speak for Harvard, but I know that I can't imagine

studying the law anywhere else. For me, the thought of studying law without even

acknowledging a Law Giver was deficient to start with. Regent Law exceeded my (very

high) expectations.

Scott K ok, Thank You

Dean_Gantt Josephine, can you be more specific?

syharris Is there anyone who is taking the LSAT in December?

Ryan Larson so basically yes then?

money i am, syharris

kjholmes @syharris, I take it next weekend. Sorry.

josephine thanks, Kerriel!

Law_Wife_Lan We love living in Regent Village. I think most people that want to get in here do. I

would send in you housing request as soon as possible though.

Britt I take it next weekend.

Scott K This is Sherra...Hi Bonnie! How are you doing? Scott and I had so much fun during our

last visit and can't wait to be there permantely

Page 20: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Scott K My wife is taking it in December

Admissions_Bonnie Ryan, students attend Regent of varying levels of spiritual commitment. It is important

to understand that as a faith-based law school, our campus respects the tenants of

faith upon which we were founded. Our classes begin with prayer and devotion.

uva2001 December here

Dean_Gantt Josephine, there's no language restriction at all, but I'm not sure what you're asking.

syharris Could I ask You how you studied

mrtillman i am taking it in december too

money lol I was going to ask you

money where are you all located at mrtillman and at syharris

mrtillman atlanta

Admissions_Bonnie It was my pleasure Sherra. I look forward to seeing you again soon.

Student_Kee I also live in Regent Village, and am very pleased with my experience here. I also

recomend submitting your request early, as well as being persistant in contacting the

Village Office.

syharris I am in Norfolk, VA

kjholmes I bought the Princeton Review LSAT prep book for 2010-2011 and a separate book of

real LSATs used in the past. Practice is where it's at.

josephine Dean Gantt! Are we supposed to be so professional that we should not say certain

words, like JESUS, otherwise we might be considered politically incorrect by outsiders,

or anything like that? Thanks!

Ryan Larson do you have any other faiths represented at your school? Judiasm, Islam, etc?

Admissions_Bonnie You can only apply for housing after being accepted.

money about how much is rent at student_kee for a one bedroom apt in regent village can

you give me an estimate..

money good question ryan

Ryan Larson cause i like diversity a lot

Dean_Gantt Josephine, oh, no! Jesus is a name we are proud to use on our campus!

Student_Kee Regent Village does not have one bedroom apartments.

syharris Thanks, kjhomes. Was the test as hard as you expected

Admissions_Bonnie There have been memders of the Jewish, Mormon and occasionally Muslim faith in

attendance.

kjholmes I'll let you know. I take it next weekend. Scary!

JS Could you tell me about the joint-degree programs Regent offers?

Ryan Larson define 'in attendance"

syharris Sorry, thanks I will def. appreciate.

Greeter_Sarah Regent Commons has one bedroom apartments, but you would need to check out

their website for the latest rates.

Student_Kee knowledgeable

Page 21: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Admissions_Bonnie Regent Commons has one-bedroom apartments.

Alumni_Kerriel Ryan, there's no question, Regent is a Christian law school. Unabashedly,

unashamedly Christian.

Greeter_Sarah They're at www.regent.edu/housing

kjholmes No problem, syharris. Good luck. :)

Student_Kee http://www.regent.edu/campus/housing/pdf/rental_rates.pdf

Student_Kee specific to the rates.

Greeter_Sarah Thanks, Kee!

Admissions_Bonnie Enrolled (full or part time).

syharris Thanks, and my prays are with you!!

Ryan Larson so how is Regent then diversity wise?

Alumni_Kerriel But that doesn't mean it isn't diverse! That's something that pleasently surprised me

Greeter_Sarah JS - Law Students enrolled in either the full time or the part-time program may obtain

another graduate degree in business, communication and the arts, psychology and

counseling, divinity or government, in addition to the juris doctor (J.D). Joint degrees

students are able to obtain the J.D. and another graduate degree in significantly less

time than would be required if the two degrees were pursued separately. Individuals

interested in the joint degrees program must meet all admissions criteria specific to

each academic program. Please contact the individual school for admissions

information.

Joint degrees offered with the juris doctor are: Master of Business Administration

(MBA), MA in Communication, MA in Counseling, Master of Divinity (M. Div), M.A. in

Management, M.A. in Political Management, M.A. in Practical Theology, Master of

Public Administration (MPA), M.A. in Public Polic .

Alumni_Kerriel I thought it might be very homogeneous, but it was not

Ryan Larson so how it is not?

uva2001 From a cultural diversity perspective, how many African American men are currently in

the 1L class at RL?

Britt How many African American Women?

Admissions_Bonnie 20% non-caucasian ethnicity for this year's incoming class of 168.

Ryan Larson so how many students are there?

money i have a 2.5 gpa.. but im doing post grad work but its undergrad.. would you all count

that...

Ryan Larson total?

Alumni_Kerriel Ryan, just because it is a faith-based school doesn't mean that everyone here is a

cookie-cutter Christian with all the same thoughts, beliefs, or levels of Christian

committment.

Admissions_Bonnie African American males for Fall 2011 = 7

josephine how many students on average per class?

Admissions_Bonnie American Indians = 7

Page 22: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Dean_Gantt Ryan, in terms of diversity from a faith perspective, there is no doubt that the faculty

are Christian and many of the students are. But, as Kerriel says, there is so much

diversity in terms of life experience, background, age, geography, professional vision.

Admissions_Bonnie Asian = 11

uva2001 Great!

syharris Money were are you located

Admissions_Bonnie Hispanics = 9

money baltimore, md

josephine Are you similar to Liberty University's School of Law?

JS Thank you, Greeter_Sarah.

Greeter_Sarah You're welcome. :)

Britt How many African American Women?

Alumni_Kerriel You get a wide variety of viewpoints even within the larger Christian community. But

that's not to say that everyone believes exactly the same way. It is a beautiful mix of

people

mrtillman thank you everyone, i learned a lot, God Bless each of you, good nite!

syharris Uva2001 what did you do to study for the LSAT

Dean_Gantt Ryan, you're asking great questions, by the way, and I'm sure our Admissions Staff

would be happy to field more in-depth ones if you have them. Also, I encourage you

to visit out campus to get a feel for our community.

Ryan Larson mix of people meaning theres 80% white christians from the United States?

Greeter_Sarah Yes, Liberty is another Christian law school in Virginia. For more information on their

statistics and programs, you will need to contact them directly. I can comment on the

strength of Regent's program, though, which is fully accredited by the American Bar

Association, and has been since 1996. As a law school that has been around for almost

25 years, Regent's alumni network is vast and expands

Greeter_Sarah across the entire United States - something that will likely be of invaluable use to you a

few years down the road. Likewise, Regent's alumni have earned us a reputation for

excellence, and Regent School of Law is well-respected within the legal community.

Additionally, Regent has among its faculty graduates of some of the most well-

renowned law schools in the country, including the University o

branch on-campus that employs many Regent students as interns and later as clerks.

Ryan Larson thanks, im just curious about this

Admissions_Bonnie Liberty's founding dean was a Regent Law alumnus. Many of their faculty members are

as well. We support their mission as a sister law school who embraces aChristian

mission. We are nearly 25 years old with about 3,000 law alums.

Britt No African American women?

Greeter_Sarah of the Virginia Supreme Court, Leroy Hassell, a great friend of Regent and of our

students

Ryan Larson really? no african american women?

Career_Kathy Yes, for instance, Chief Justice Hassell is presenting tomorrow to our students about

clerkships after graduation

josephine Dean Gantt, how would you rank/evaluate Regent's, compared with Harvard's School

of Law?

Greeter_Sarah 3 African American men, 4 women. Total of 7.

Admissions_Bonnie African American males = 3; African American females = 4 for a total of 7 this year.

Alumni_Kerriel I practice law with a number of African American women who are Regent Law

alumnus. Can't speak of how many currently

Britt How many African Americans on average apply each year?

JS Regent sounds like a good law school. Could you give use examples of a few alumni

and what they do/did?

Admissions_Bonnie Britt, I have to say that I didn't bring that report home with me tonight for our chat. I

only brought home my year-end statistics report. I can certainly give you the data if

you email me tomorrow at the office, [email protected]

Dean_Gantt Josephine, there are definitely different! I enjoyed my time at Harvard, but I know

that our students have such a great experience at Regent because of our Christian

atmosphere. It leads to strong bonds between students and faculty and also binds

together the student community as well. I am encourages by how our students

support each other; I don't think that's the case at all law schools.

Career_Kathy We have alumni all over the country working for large firms, small firms, judges, etc.

They are all very happy to talk with students and mentor them as well

Britt Thanks Bonnie

Admissions_Bonnie Governor Bob McDonnell is a Regent Law alum

Alumni_Kerriel Bob McDonnell is the Governor of Virginia, by the way :-)

Scott K Sherra and I met him at a political event last week hjere in Missouri. He is such an

outstanding and impressive public speaker

Greeter_Sarah One of our 3Ls is an African-American female from Alabama. She's loved it!

syharris Gantt are these people willing to mentor before or after acceptance into law school? I

would love to begin my mentor experience now!!

Admissions_Bonnie Britt, we would be happy to put you in contact with a current African American female

student. Sarah could do that for you.

Greeter_Sarah She will actually be representing us at an event in Houston later this year.

Scott K Governor Bob McDonnell

Ryan Larson anyone from iowa there that you know of?

Alumni_Kerriel I was just thinking of that same 3L Sarah! Perhaps you could put Britt in contact with

her?

Dean_Gantt Syharris, I think we have alumni who are willing to serve as ambassadors to our

admitted students. Is that right, Sarah or Bonnie?

Alumni_Kerriel I know alumni from Iowa.

Admissions_Bonnie Hi Ryan, one of our professors is visiting four Iowa schools this week. And yes, we

have alums from and back in Iowa. Google David Wiederstein.

Britt Thanks. I will look for her.

JS Thanks, Career_Kathy, Admissions_Bonnie, Alumni_Kerriel, and Dean_Gantt.

Ryan Larson well i go to college in Illinois but im from iowa

syharris Britt I think you would enjoy ur stay at Regent, No I am not an alumni but I live only

about 15min. from the campus, as well I have visited Regent.

Greeter_Sarah If you'd like that, Britt, I'd be glad to put you in touch with her.

Admissions_Bonnie That's correct Dean Gantt. All admitted students are paired with an alum.

uva2001 I would love to be in contact with an current African-American male student as well

Dean_Gantt We also have two African-American female professors in case that wasn't mentioned

above.

Britt Please Sarah

Britt Great

Dean_Gantt Thanks, JS!

Greeter_Sarah No problem. :) If you want to email me your email address, I'll pass it along to her. My

email is [email protected]

Admissions_Bonnie I'll be at the Chicago Law forum the end of Oct. Hope you'll come by and speak with

me. Details at www.lsac.org

Page 25: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Alumni_Kerriel There is also an active BLSA (Black Law Student Association) chapter at Regent.

Ryan Larson ya ill be there, oct 30th right?

Britt That sounds great too.

Admissions_Bonnie We will be at all LSAC law forums. I'm heading to New York this weekend for the

forum at the Hilton.

JS Another question: are there any topics which deal with disability public policy, the

ADA, or similar issues?

Alumni_Kerriel As I mentioned earlier, I practice law on a daily basis with 3 African American women

who are Regent Alum!

Britt I am a little scared about coming so far, but you have made the sound very

inter3ewsting.

Ryan Larson does regent have an honor code?

Admissions_Bonnie Britt, only about 33% of our students are from Virginia. Kerriel relocated from

California!

Britt I do plan to attend Oct. 15th.

Alumni_Kerriel Regent is an amazing place. You should consider coming to Preview. That's what

really helped me know Regent was right for me. *I came to Regent from Los Angeles*

syharris Sarah, I am an African American female myself, so if you could also put me in contact

with the 3 women I would appreciate it.

Dean_Gantt JS, we currently do not offer a specific class in Disability Law, but I suspect that these

topics are address in Employment Law, which we offer.

Britt syharris, where are you?

Dean_Gantt Ryan, yes, we do have an Honor Code. You can access it on the Regent Law website

under Student Life and Student Affairs.

josephine do students/professors pray for each other/ when they see the needd?

Admissions_Bonnie Yes -- definitely

syharris I live here in Virginia, about 15min. away from Regent

Career_Kathy We also hosted an Employment Law program just last week with the ABA

Alumni_Kerriel Josephine--YES! And not just during law school, but afterwards too

Student_Kee I can't speak for professors on prayer, but students do all the time!

Ryan Larson Dean Gannt, is Regent sending any representatives to the Center for academic

intergrity annual conference in Long Beach California?

Greeter_Sarah welcome, amtthew! Glad you could join us.

Alumni_Kerriel I can speak to the issue Kee, and the answer is a resounding YES. It's a wonderful thing

to have that type of support from your professors.

Dean_Gantt Josephine, I make a point to pray for each student who has an appointment to come to

see me in my office. It is privilege to pray with the students!

Page 26: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Greeter_Sarah Ryan - we will not be in attendance at that at event. I wasn't aware of it until you

mentioned it, and I do the registrations for our office.

Ryan Larson Ok, see i am a co-chair of our board and the institution has around 360 member

schools

Dean_Gantt Ryan, I will be recruiting in Southern California later this month, though--October 11-

15.

Britt Will a rep be in Atlanta in November?

josephine Great, alumni_Kerriel, Dean_Gantt!

Admissions_Bonnie The Dean has staff prayer every Monday at 9:00 a.m. Law Admissions prays for our

students, their families, relocation, finances, etc. every Tuesday morning.

Ryan Larson i thought regent would be one of them

Scott K Thank you everyone for the information God Bless and we are looking forward to

attending there. Have a great week

Admissions_Bonnie I will be at the Atlanta forum in Atlanta.

Britt Look to see you Bonnie

Admissions_Bonnie Blessings to you Scott.

Kate Hello Admission Bonnie: what is the tuition rates for next year.

Greeter_Sarah Hi Chris H! Glad you could join us.

JS Thanks, Dean_Gantt. I would think that Disability Law probably comes up in

Employment. So, are there any courses which might address accessibility in public

places, etc?

josephine wonderful to know, admissions_Bonnie! God Richly Bless Regent University for that!

Admissions_Bonnie Tuition for Fall 2010 is $1025/credit hour. Fall rates have not yet been announced.

Admissions_Bonnie Kate, that was requested by you I believe.

Dean_Gantt JS, I can't think of any courses where that would be discussed--at least in detail. You

can access all our course descriptions on-line here:

http://www.regent.edu/acad/schlaw/student_life/docs/coursedescriptions.pdf. You

can see that we have a variety of course offerings.

JS Thank you, Dean_Gantt.

josephine There is only one exam every semester? How many semesters/year, and is there a

break in between?

syharris Sarah are you able to come sit in on a class?

Greeter_Sarah Yes, we'd love for you to sit in on a class, syharris!

JS Thanks to everyone who answered my questions.

Greeter_Sarah We'd be glad to work that into your schedule, should you need to make an individiual

visit.

Birdie4President How many students attend Regent and then take the bar in another state?

Page 27: Sender Message Greeter Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for ... · Sender Message Greeter_Sarah Hi everyone! Thanks for coming to help out! Student_Kee Hi Sarah! ... Greeter_Sarah Welcome,

Alumni_Kerriel Ryan, since the Center for Academic Integrity is for high schools, colleges, and

universities, it's possible that it would be an event that the greater Regent University

might participate, but not the Law School specifically.

Dean_Gantt Josephine, yes, that is true for most classes but not all. Some classes, for instance,

may have mid-term projects or writing assignments. There are two semesters a year

(fall and spring), and we also have a summer session.

syharris Who would I need to speak with to make that happen?

Career_Kathy Birdie- In July we had approx 56 VA bar takers - around 1/3 of the class

Career_Kathy due to the fact that some of the bar takers graduated in different years

Birdie4President ok, I was considering Regent, but I would like to return home.

Greeter_Sarah you could just call our office at 757.352.4584 and speak with Jenna, and she'd be glad

to set up something for you.

Dean_Gantt Birdie, what's neat about that statistic is that it shows that a majority of our students

go out of state; we are a diverse school in that respect!

Career_Kathy Many of our students return home after graduation - in fact we often encourage that

money PLEASE ACCEPT ME INTO YOUR PROGRAM

syharris Thank, you Sarah

Kate Thanks_Admission Bonnie for answering my question.

Admissions_Bonnie I appreciate you passion. I know you will convey that in your personal statement.

Dean_Gantt Money, we look forward to receiving your file!

Ryan L have you ever had any atheists at regent?

josephine Thanks to everyone who answered my questions. God bless you! I might have more

coming up. I really appreciate and I thank God for the integration of Biblical Christianity

with law. They have to go hand-in-hand! God bless you!

Admissions_Bonnie I don't believe so.

Ryan L ya i wouldnt expect so, open homosexuals?

Dean_Gantt Blessings, Josephine!

Britt Thank you all for your time God Bless. See you Oct. 15th.

Admissions_Bonnie Ryan, we would refer all students to our Philosophy of Education as they consider

whether Regent is the right fit for them.

Ryan L ok ya, i was just curious

josephine Blessings, Dean_Gantt! Admisions_Bonnie! Greeter_Sarah, Alumni_Kerriel, and anyone

else who partcipated, and God bless you for the chat!
