Contents: Age labeling provides parents and other consumers guidance for selecting proper toys for children. However, age labeling must be appropriate. If a toy is not clearly and conspicuously age labeled, or is inappropriately age labeled, the authorities may conduct the most stringent applicable requirements for the product. When establishing age grading for a toy, several factors have to be considered. For example, Physical ability, including physical coordination, fine and gross motor capabilities, size and

    strength, number of parts available at a given age of a child to manipulate and play with the specific features of a toy;

    Mental ability of a child to understand instructions, sequences of operations, objective of the toy. Childrens cognitive development which includes creativity, problem solving and the ability to focus and control behavior etc; Play needs and interests at different levels of development. Understanding developmental levels and identifying play materials and play environments to enhance each developmental stage is important for assigning appropriate age grades.
