SEMI brings students to our annual industry events —SEMICONs—to see demonstrations, attend programs, and interact with exhibitors and hiring managers.

During the day, students explore career opportunities in semiconductor manufacturing and learn more about the industry. Presenters also provide insights on what it takes to build a career in the industry.

02SEMI WorksApprenticeshipProgram

Launched first official SEMI certified apprenticeship model in partnership with GLOBALFOUNDRIES

2020

The newest SEMI program makes it easier for companies to offer training for technician careers in electronics manufacturing. This competency-based program identifies skills gaps and delivers targeted training that efficiently meets industry employers’ hiring needs.

03SEMI connects with universities around the world to attend job fairs and open houses, share internship and job openings, and arrange student poster exhibitions at our technical conferences.

University students learn more about our member companies and how to get their resumes to the right hiring managers.

05SEMI has multiple programs underway to identify and document the skills needed in today’s industry, including SEMI Works, METIS and SEMI Certs.

This work establishes a foundation for several strategic projects with community colleges and training organizations around the world. These projects will ensure their curriculum aligns with the skills and competencies needed by our member companies.

3 Pilot Mentoring Program for select TEL US employees launched in 2020

08SEMI is strongly committed to our members’ success in building a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable workforce and global industry.

Addressing the lack of diversity requires a collaborative effort and an understanding that each company is unique.

Through a series of new programs and initiatives focused on veteran internships, manufacturing ownership, crucial conversations, racial disparities, and women’s advancement, SEMI is working collectively to make the systemic changes necessary to create the inclusive workforce we need.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

09This new initiative at SEMI is helping military veterans find well-paid, stable roles in the semiconductor industry, including:

3 An industry-wide internship program to learn first-hand about the industry, companies and roles through a project-based experience

3 On-base job fairs and SEMI events that directly connect companies to transitioning veterans

3 An awareness campaign about looking beyond the uniform, breaking stereotypes, and sharing powerful career stories

SEMI VetWorks

10The SEMI MOD program showcases inclusive business sourcing strategies and the advantages of partnering with diverse-owned businesses in our procurement and supply chains.

We help these businesses understand the process and requirements for being identified and certified and we connect our member companies to these businesses.

Manufacturing Ownership Diversity

11Members have asked SEMI to start collecting and providing information on the best ways to communicate information on social justice to their workforces.

As a starting point, SEMI has recently created an online library of materials that will enhance our members’ understanding and approach to crucial conversations surrounding race, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, and other identifiers.

Crucial Conversations

12This program recognizes and celebrates the many accomplished women who work in our industry.

Our industry welcomes, includes, honors, and promotes women and the Spotlight on SEMI Women program showcases these leaders and shares their stories.
