What I do with the contestants:

I take four of the high ability math kids twice

a week during Math RTI time. We learn a

variety of what we can do with fractions. I had them take a pre-test

and at the end, a post-test, to see how much

they improved.

The Contestants Learned:• Naming whole numbers as

fractions• Naming a fraction based on

rectangles• Drawing fractions using

rectangles• How to make a fraction

What I learned:This whole self-selected

project has lead me to get to know these students

personally. I get to see them grow through learning. It

makes me realize that they are striving to become better

in math. They seem so passionate learning

something out of the ordinary. It’s a challenge for

them and I see that they love it.
