SRF is school self review

• The SRF is there to help you evaluate your schools’ use of ICT

• It is there as a benchmark that can be used to compare your school with others

• It will provide valuable feedback for you to improve your current development systems

–You can achieve the ICT Mark!

What is the Self Review Framework?

• Set up in 2005 after government announced an initiative to help all schools use ICT effectively through the development of a “route map which enables all schools to identify where they are, and shows practical steps they can take”

• Becta took the lead and moved this forward into what became the SRF. (with the aid of the QCA, OFSTED, DfES, etc…)

SRF is broken into 8 elements

• 1.         Leadership and management• 2.         Curriculum• 3.         Learning and teaching• 4.         Assessment• 5.         Professional development• 6.         Extending opportunities for learning• 7.         Resources• 8.         Impact on pupil outcomes

• It involves;-– SMT/SLT– Teachers– Governors– Support Staff– IT Support– Students

School staff understand assessments• Use an environment familiar to your customers

• Ask them to assess the use of ICT using the self review framework to show how the school is doing

• Use the technical support assessment to check on how you are doing with ICT support

• Together you could achieve the ICT Mark

ICT Infrastructure• Institutional Infrastructure - This matrix will help you

assess your institution's ICT infrastructure by looking at what it enables you to do and then produce an action plan for improvement.

• Learning Platform functionality - This matrix has been developed as a response to the evolution of the learning platform functional specifications.

• Management and support of the ICT infrastructure - This matrix, which is aimed at institutions with internally provided technical support, assesses the effectiveness of the ICT infrastructure management and support provision against Becta’s Framework for ICT Technical Support (FITS) and produces an action plan for improvement.

SRF is school self review

• You need to register online• A token is awarded, always use this to combine all

your responses• When you have completed the 8 elements & feel

you have evidence (various forms) to support the benchmark at the level shown on the online SRF, then apply for the Mark.

• The process is not “yet another award” but is objective validation of the schools self evaluation.

Good level of SRF = ICT Mark

• The Assessor cannot have been used to support the school’s SRF work.

• The assessment of a school is not based on the quality of the commentary provided, but on a visit to the school

• The commentary should be reviewed to identify two or three elements the assessor will focus on during the assessment visit

• 3 hr visit

An example agenda could be:• 9.30  Arrive, introduction to the context of the

school by headteacher and senior leadership team• 9.45  Tour of school with senior leadership team• 10.15 Review of evidence for elements selected

with lead person for ICT.• 10.45 Interview with selected subject leaders• 11.15 Interview with classroom teachers and others

(e.g. Network manager, TAs, parents, governors, and community leaders where appropriate)

• 11.45 Interview with selected pupils• 12.20 Consideration of recommendation for award• 12.30 Feedback to senior leadership team.

• Network managers must become strategic or they won't be delivering the school needs -

• Network Managers are the key to getting the support staff taken seriously

• For example, Section 1c-4 – Security and Safety - “New policies”

• “Researching Freedom of Information”

Finally, What is required by me?

• As IT support staff, you can provide evidence for section 7

• You can compare your results with other schools, or “ideal” models

• Finally, you can then use both of these in providing evidence and then also in improving your systems for the next time you proceed with the SRF
