Steeped in history. The Bundeshaus (seat of the Swiss Federal

Government) in Bern – or to be more precise: the Parliament

building constructed by the architect Hans Auer between 1894

and 1902 – is not only an imposing architectural monument,

but also a symbol of the notion of Swiss federal democracy. For

instance, stone from 11 cantons was used and 33 artists from

the various regions in Switzerland were able to help shape the

building with their works.

The story of KWC began with music. In 1874 in Unter-

kulm, Adolf Karrer established a company to manufacture

mechanical musical boxes. However, with the advance of

the gramophone, the days of musical boxes were already

numbered. From 1897 the company therefore concentrated

on the manufacture of faucets. With success: in 1911 the

Hotel Ritz in Paris and the Hotel Negresco in Nice were

equipped with K+W faucets. The introduction of die casting

technology around 1920 was yet another milestone. KWC

set further trends with the NEO and PAX lines, both in

1945, the first faucet with a pull-out spray (1957) and the

DOMO (1982) – still a successful model today. Nowadays

the company is represented in numerous countries abroad

and ranks among the most significant faucet manufacturers

in Switzerland and Europe.

KWC – A brand with tradition

Xocolatl is what the Maya people called a drink made of

cocoa beans, spices and water in about the year 600. The

history of chocolate production in Switzerland is not quite

so old, but just as filled with passion. It was in 1819 that

one of the first mechanised chocolate-makers in the world

went into production in Corsier near Vevey, and in 1867

milk chocolate was «invented» in Switzerland. The chocolate

industry has never stopped growing and changing since –

but what remains the same is the outstanding reputation

of Swiss chocolate.

KWC – Premium quality products

At the beginning of almost every faucet there is a sand

core made from quartz sand, which forms the hollow

space of the resulting faucet. The blanks are produced

from brass bars at around 1000 degrees centigrade in the

permanent mould. Following mechanical processing, the

faucets are machined and polished on a robot production

line, passing through further stations before they are finally

chrome-plated by the galvanic equipment, then assembled

on the production line and packed ready for dispatch.

As precise as a Swiss clock. The functionality of Swiss

technology is nothing less than legendary in many sectors.

The railway clock designed in 1955 by the engineer and

pioneer of Swiss industrial design, Hans Hilfiker, with the

characteristic red second hand with the disc shape at the

end, has become a symbol of reliability and punctuality

way beyond the country’s borders.

Innovative technology

A clock and a faucet certainly have a number of things

in common. Both rely on precision engineering and the

precise interplay of the individual components. However,

at KWC flawless functionality does not stop at the obvious.

Numerous small extras contribute to real added value in the

daily use of the faucet. Since the early beginnings of the

company, innovation has been a major priority at KWC. For

instance, with the first pull-out spray that came onto the

market in 1957, KWC achieved success with a design that

has influenced the world of faucets ever since. However,

concealed within the interior of each faucet is something
