The primary source of information on a chemical’s stateand physical form is the Material Safety Data Sheet(MSDS). The MSDS may also make recommendations for

what type of respirator may be needed to work safely with the product.Once the potential contaminants are identified, air sampling should bedone to determine how much of the contaminant is likely to be present in a work shift.

Air sampling can be performed by a consulting firm or by OSHAConsultation. This evaluationshould include a reasonable

estimate of employee exposures to respiratory hazards and an identification of the contaminant’schemical state and physical form.

Once the contaminant level is established, you should investigate effective hazard controlmethods, such as engineering and administrative controls, before resortingto a respirator. If you do need a respirator, our trained staff can helpyou make the appropriate choice.

If the employer cannot identify or reasonably estimate the employee exposure, the employershall consider the atmosphere tobe IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health).

Next, Choose a Level of Protection

Select a filter that is designed to remove airborne particulates which may be harmfulto the lungs in your workplace. Particulateswhich may be blocked by a filter include dust,

fumes (metal particles from welding), fibers and mists. Dry particulates can be removed with an N95, N99 or N100filter. Dry or oily particulates can be removed with an R95,R99, P95, P99, or P100 filter.

You may even need a cartridge and a filter, depending on the nature of your work. Cartridges contain activatedcharcoal which can be chemically treated to remove various gases and vapors.We have several types of cartridges to select from. Certain chemicals will not beblocked by the cartridges and you may need to consider a supplied air system.

Finally, Size Your Respirator

A mask must fit properly and be fit tested toensure complete protection. It should have atight seal around the nose and mouth to preventleakage. We offer a

complete line of Fit Test Kits to assist you with thisprocess. Remember thatall persons who wearrespirators for a chemical hazard mustconform with the OSHArequirements, whichincludes fit testing andmedical evaluations.

Full Facepiece and Half-Mask Respirators

• The 7600 Full Facepiece Respirator provides eye, face and respiratoryprotection. Facepiece is constructed of soft, pliable silicone for superiorcomfort and fit. Hard coated polycarbonate wraparound lens provides a 200° field of vision, plus it protects the wearer’s eyes and face from irritating gas, vapors and flying particles. Lens meets ANSI standards for impact and penetration. Oral/nasal cup reduces fogging and “dead air” space.

• The 5400 Full Facepiece Respirator provides comfort and protection at an unbeatable price. Respirator is constructed of thermal plastic elastomer, so it’s lightweight (14 ounces) and long-lasting. Hard-coatedpolycarbonate lens is scratch resistant and has a field of vision of over200°. Lens meets ANSI Z87.1-2003 standard for impact and penetration.Respirator comes with 3 peel-away windows, 6 respirator wipes and 1 storage bag.

• The 7700 Half-Mask Respirator is one of the most comfortable on themarket. Facepiece is made of soft non-allergenic silicone that conforms tothe worker’s face. Cradle suspension gives an even seal without creatingany slipping or pressure points. Low profile provides workers with a widerfield of vision.

• The 5500 Half-Mask Respirator combines the comfort and fit of areusable respirator with the economy of a disposable respirator. Cradlesuspension system provides proper positioning for an even seal, withoutcreating sensitive pressure points. All respirators are NIOSH approved.

Maintenance-FreeHood

This universal disposable hood can be set up as either a lowpressure or high pressure supplied air respirator systemmade possible by a swivel-stylethreaded female hose connector

incorporated into the hood. Poly-coated Tyvek® hood is splash

resistant and seals in air flow. Hood is NIOSH approved.Breathing tube incorporates a multi-layer sound dampeningsystem made of foam that prevents the tube from beingcrushed or twisted during use. One piece suspension offerseasy adjustment with a Velcro closure. Low Pressure FlowAdaptor has an OBAC quick connect design with belt and clipassembly. It requires an air supply range of 2 – 40 psi. HighPressure Flow Adaptor offers Hansen fittings and airline hosewith belt and clip assembly.

Hood SystemHooded Systems are especially

comfortable for bearded workers in dirty environ-ments such as spray painting. Complete systemoffers a portable air source for one or two workers, Tyvek® hood, ambient air pump and 50or 100 feet of hose for each hood. Headgear L-Series, H-Series & S-SeriesL-Series positive pressure, loose-fitting headgear is both comfortable and versatile.Applications for L-Series headgear include: chipping, grinding, cutting, welding,painting, sanding and more. Choose bump cap, hard hat, or helmet style. Thisheadgear can be connected to the Belt Mounted PAPR (81063) or to a supplied air system. Advantages to the worker include the ability to use while wearing prescription glasses and that there is no breathing resistance offered.

H-Series assembly offers superior comfort in the most challenging environments. It is lightweight, loose-fitting and it eliminates the need for fit testing. Suggestedapplications include: spray painting and pesticide handling. It is made of Tychem SL Chemical Barrier fabric. Its sealed seams help prevent chemical permeationthrough thread holes, making it the ideal choice for heavy duty work such as chemical handling and hazardous waste remediation. H-Series assembly include: 2 hoods, cap suspension, chin strap, 2 faceshield covers and squeeze clamp.

S-Series suspension hoods can be a very cost-effective choice for some high disposal rate environments – just the hood fabric is replaced, while the suspensionand air ducting can be reused. An externally-adjustable airflow control allows wearers to modify the airflow distribution to suit personal comfort needs. While wearing, the airflow may be directed primarily to the front visor or split to providemore airflow to the top of the head. The suspension has independent adjustmentsfor the crown and head circumference, allowing for a custom fit. Visors have anexcellent field of view with reduced curvature for decreased reflections and glare.Hood Assembly with Inner Collar provides head, face, neck and shoulder coverage. Hood Assembly with Inner Shroud uses a double shroud design for itsrespiratory seal. Users can tuck the inner shroud into a shirt or protective coverall,which allows excess air to be channeled over the body, providing additional comfort.

SCBAThis unit is designed for industrial users whooccasionally use an SCBA. It features uncomplicated parts that are dependable andeasy to maintain. A 30-minute cylinder delivers pressurized air to the facepiece or hood. Thelightweight and compact CDV valve features anadjustable flow bypass valve to provide asmuch or as little air as you need during anemergency. The silicone full Facepiece incorporates a comfortabledual sealing flange for a superior fit, an oral/nasal cup to reduce fogging, a speaking diaphragm for clear communication and a hard-coated polycarbonate lens with greater than 200° field of vision. ThePVC Hood is quick-and-easy to put on, provides superior chemicalresistance, and is ideal for workers who wear prescription eyewear.The Frontier Series also features a chest-mounted pressure gauge, a whistle air alarm and a self-seating pressure relief valve. Airhawk® II SCBAThis lightweight, durable, and economical SCBA is ideal for many industrial IDLH applications. The AirHawk II Air Mask is a pressure-demand apparatus designed to maintain a slight positive air pressure inside the facepiece during inhalation andexhalation. Positive pressure helps to prevent contaminants from seeping in and around the facepiece. The mask is built from six major components: facepiece, carrier and harnessassembly, cylinder, first-stage regulator, mask-mounted regulator,and End-of-Service-Time-Indicator (EOSTI). A 30-MinuteAluminum or Carbon Wrapped Cylinder delivers pressurizedair to the facepiece. The Advantage 4000 Facepiece featuresadapters to convert the it to a Twin-Cartridge Respirator (usingAdvantage Cartridges) or an RD40 Facepiece. A one-way checkvalve prevents exhaled air from entering the regulator. Facepiecealso features a molded polycarbonate lens and a four-point silicone head harness. The durable nylon carrier and harnessassembly comes standard with large side handles and a central attachment point to pull workers to safety in rescue scenarios.
