  • Glue up center piece using contrast pieces of wood

  • Select piece of wood to be fitted and glued around centerpiece

  • Run selected piece thru jointer to true up faces

  • Plane selected piece to desired uniform thickness

  • Set saw blade cut to 45 Deg.

  • Using center piece, mark cut for 45 deg. cuts

  • Cut 4 pieces for exact fit around center piece

  • Place 45 deg. Cut pieces edge to edge, using masking tape to hold secure while glueing to center piece and clamp

  • Mark off a circle equal to a 4” forstnerbit on top of block so so a cylinder can be cut on the band saw.

  • Cut cylinder

  • Glue (2) blocks of 7” square contrasting color woods together

  • Drill 4” dia. Hole in center of glued contrasting blocks.

  • Cylinder and contrasting block glue up.

  • Mount cylinder in lathe and turn to fit hole in contrasting block glue-up.

  • Glue pieces together and remount on lathe. Set back cylinder from face to receive chuck for turning.

  • Turn desired shape and saw top off leaving a tenon for reattaching to the lathe at a later point

  • Cut pieces

  • Turn inside of top and turn edge to fit bottom.

  • Turn base leaving edge room for top to fit.

  • Firmly tape top to bottom & complete turning of box top.

  • Prepare to finish pieces

  • Finish top and bottom pieces
