MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY
I am pleased to present the IQAC Newsletter for the academic year
2015-16.
The innumerable academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular
activities of this year, have been well documented in this complete and colourful
compendium which proves the fact that Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, the nerve centre of Teaching-
Learning process, is ever vibrant, buzzing with intellectual activities.
The institution’s fervent commitment towards the fulfillment of my father, Padmabhusan Shri. N.
Ramaswami Ayyar’s vision of enlightening and empowering women, especially the socially and economically
challenged, is commendable. The launching of the job-oriented course in Sericulture, under the Community
College Scheme, I am sure, will enhance the entrepreneurial skills of the rural women from our district, and it
is definitely a step towards materialising our Founder’s dream.
I am happy to know that the Triennial Commission that inspected our college was much impressed
with our progress academically and otherwise.
The visit of our golden alumna Shrimathi Nirmala Sitaraman, Minister of State for Commerce and
Industry has rejuvenated, energized and motivated the young minds, who, I hope will, reach greater heights and
take up responsible positions to serve our Nation and make their alma-mater proud.
I congratulate the Principal, Teaching and Non-teaching Staff and Students for a rewarding year and
wish them a bright future and pray for the continued spiritual guidance of Goddess Akilandeswari.
R. Panchapakesan Managing Trustee & Secretary

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.
In 1951, when our revered Founder Padmabhusan Shri.
N. Ramaswami Ayyar laid the foundation for this colosseum of
learning, he also placed the above said ideology as the cornerstone,
on which weighed his unflinching and single-minded faith on girl’s education, as the effective and efficient tool
for women’s empowerment and emancipation.
Today Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College stands as the proud testimonial of the steadfast efforts of
our respected Founder. In line with our Founder’s principles, Team SRC strives in every stride to achieve the
goal of ‘Nation building through character building’ by producing a strong league of elite, young women who
leave the portals of this institution with a great obligation towards the society. Equipped with knowledge,
courage, perseverance and propriety they march forward as architects of a brave new world, to be built upon grit
and determination and by defying stereotypes.
Attempting to realise our Founder’s vision, our college extends its academic services to the marginalized
women too. To strengthen and empower rural women at grassroot level, we have started an entrepreneurial
course in Sericulture under the Community College of UGC. As an evidence to the accomplishments of our
faculty this academic year also saw many awards and accolades pouring in. Dr. M. Nalini, Professor and
Head, department of History has received ‘Lifetime Achiever’ and ‘Iyatramizh Chemmani’ awards.
Sharpening their research acumen the faculty members of various departments have authored and published
many books and presented papers at various International and National conferences. In acknowledgement of
its progress the college has also received Rs.90Lakhs as DST-FIST grant from the Department of Science &
Technology. The visit of dignitaries like Hon’ble Minister Shrimathi Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Justice
Tmt. Dr. S. Vimala our alumnae, Dr. V. Irai Anbu I.A.S. were memorable moments. Inspired and
motivated by such role-model-dignitaries, there were the students curricular and co-curricular achievements
galore as ever.
Under the able guidance of our Founder and the celestial blessings of Goddess Akilandeswari, let
Team SRC win more laurels in the future.
Dr. M. Jayanthi Principal
Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Honourable Minister of State for Commerce and
Industry, Government of India and an alumna of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College focussed on the driving force of education that turns an individual into a leader while delivering the 65th College Day address on 20th February 2016. Dedicating all her achievements to the teachers who groomed her here she insisted that the students should participate in all the activities which will lay a strong foundation for their future. Remembering the mission of the founder Padmabhushan Sri.N. Ramaswami Ayyar she said that each and every SRCian must strive hard to achieve the international status as they have access to good education which is denied to many even today.

Dr. Karpaga Kumaravel, Director UGC-Human Resource Development, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, while inaugurating the college union and its affiliated associations on 10th July 2015, pointed out, “Self-reliance and self-learning alone can turn the students of today into great achievers of tomorrow”.
He observed that Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, a centre for providing culture based education has contributed much to make Trichy an educational hub of Tamil Nadu. Catering to the needs of the rural, first generation learners, it cultivates holistic development of individuals. He advised the students to nurture a quest for knowledge, making good use of information technology sources. He emphasized that being employable is more important than getting degrees. Students, at present must equip themselves with 21st century skills to be all-rounders. Development of cognitive, affective, psychomotor skills is indispensable in this world of cut-throat competition. College education is just the beginning as people learn to live and live to learn. Quoting from Arnold he advised the students to be more focused, goal-oriented and single-minded in their endeavours.
