CERTIFIED (BLUE TAG) SEED IS AN ASSURANCE BY A GOVERNMENT AGENCY THAT:

∏ The turfgrass seed varieties have unique characteristics that are stable through many years of growth.

∏ Varietal integrity has been maintained through the planting, growing, harvesting, cleaning and blending process.

∏ The finished seed product meets quality standards set by the certifying agency.

Many of our seed products have a Blue Tag on the package – insurance that these standards are met. All of our turfgrass seed is selected, produced, harvested and blended with the following standards:

∏ Our seed varieties are selected from top turf breeding programs to meet the needs of our customers. All of our seed varieties are submitted to at least one cycle of testing in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program, as well as regional University trials.

THE SEED LABEL

Regardless of variety, every bag of seed has something you don’t want to miss – the label. This simple piece of paper tells you everything you need to know about the content and quality of the seed in the bag.

1. Shipper’s name and addressrequired on all seed labels.

2. LOT NUMBER indicates:∏ Location where product was blended∏ Year of production∏ Sequence of blend

Lot number can be traced to original component tests and history. (Seed labeler must have this information on file.)

3. % PURITY by component is determined bythe following formula: component % by weight x purity on official component seed test. The total of all component purity figures added together is the total purity of the blended product.

4. % GERM is the germination % of each component.LESCO® has a policy: maximum labeled germination of 90%, even if test shows a higher number. This allows for regulatory testing variances.

5. ORIGIN indicates the state (or country outsideUnited States) where seed was grown.

6. OTHER INGREDIENTS is an important section of the seed tag.

OTHER CROP SEEDS: indicates % content of seeds from any agricultural crop other than listed components.

INERT MATTER: indicates % content of chaff, stems or other product that is not seed.

WEED SEED: indicates % content of seed not defined by component or other crop %’s.

7. NOXIOUS WEEDS indicate any seeds found (andcount per lb.) that are defined as noxious or as undesirable grasses by state or federal law.

8. The DATE TESTED is the month and year of thelast completed germination test. Regulations state that there must be a valid, complete germination test with this date. Laboratory germination tests can take up to 28 days to complete. It is not legal to update a seed tag without an updated test. LESCO® always has a germination test completed to correspond with the date tagged.

KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS AND PERENNIAL RYEGRASS FAIRWAY MIXES

We offer fairway mixes comprised of elite Kentucky bluegrass and turf-type perennial ryegrass varieties that are in the top tier of the NTEP turf quality trials. We use varieties that rate well when mowed at .4-.6 inches under high maintenance practices. These varieties also have high scores for genetic color, disease resistance and establishment.

Our elite turf-type perennial ryegrasses are traffic tolerant with improved mowing qualities due to their upright and dense growth habits. These advanced generation ryegrasses are resistant to gray leaf spot.

TURFGRASS ROUGH BLENDS AND MIXTURES

The improved turf type Kentucky bluegrasses, tall fescues, fine fescues and perennial ryegrasses used in LESCO® rough blends and mixtures show improved shade and drought tolerance. All components are improved turf type varieties and have NTEP performance data.

Golf course care—and play is all about the turf. Selecting the right seed for your course is one of the most important decisions a superintendent can make. That’s why you want to be sure to look for Blue Tag certified varieties, whenever possible.

Each state has a seed certifying agency verifying the genetic purity of seed grown in that state. Buying Blue Tag certified seed gives you the added confidence that the seed you get is exactly what you bought and it carries all of the performance characteristics you are looking for.

OVERSEEDING (DORMANT BERMUDA GRASS)

Our overseeding products offer quick establishment, rich green color and good spring transition qualities. We offer a unique line of Perennial ryegrass varieties that contain little or no endophyte which allows Bermuda grass fairways to regenerate quickly in the spring. Our overseeding line includes three way perennial ryegrass blends, intermediate (annual x perennial) ryegrasses, and Pro Am Poa Trivialis; Apron seed treatment (for pythium control) is offered on all products. Bulk bags containing 1000 lbs of seed are also available.

BERMUDA GRASSES

Our improved varieties of Bermuda grass seed are suitable for fairways and roughs. Sunsport can be used for repair on existing fairways. Sunstar is very good for use in roughs with quick establishment and aggressive growth habit.

We also offer Riviera Bermuda grass and Princess 77 Bermudagrass (the only hybrid seeded Bermuda grass) subject to availability.

All of the improved Bermuda grasses can be mowed from ½ to 1½ inches. All varieties we offer have NTEP trial data, and have shown good cold tolerance in the northern half of the Transition Zone.
