Project aims
0To give students more personalised feedback and in a more timely manner.
0To increase the variety of the feedback given to students, not just in the form of written feedback but also video analysis.
Project Pedagogy
0 It is important that student receive Medal, Missions and Clear goals in their feedback (Petty, 2004)
0 By using the iPad to deliver feedback to the student, students can more quickly: 0 Receive praise on the task completed (medals)0 What the student needs to improve (missions)0 How and when they will achieve improvement (clear goals)
0 By increasing the speed of feedback in a natural environment, a higher level of knowledge can be disseminated and obtained in teaching sessions (Ramsden, 2003)
Apps used
0 Turn it in and grade mark0 University based systems which has enabled work to be
marked and easily and feedback to student in a timely manner0 Physics online
0 An app which enables techniques to be analysed in great depth and ‘on the fly’ in the field or practical setting
0 Screen chalk0 A app which allows you to annotate over film or images with
ease, again enabling the coaching student to analyse individual techniques or team play quickly in the practical setting
Student feedback
0 The students have been very positive about the project0 They have commented positively on the use of e
feedback through the use of turn it in grade mark system0 They feel they are working with cutting edge technology
on their course0 They feel the speed of feedback given has helped them
develop further practically0 They feel they constantly receive feedback in various
forms and can utilise one form or another to improve performance both practically and in written forms of assessments
Points for the future
0 The new apps have helped in the development of these areas but previously the feedback was delayed by having to switch between several apps and uploading the video first.
0 New developments within the iPad and the VLE could enhance the student learning experience by increasing the speed and variety of feedback given to the students
0 A long term use of the iPad and the apps across coaching modules and sports teams would enable a useful research and therefore evaluation into its effectiveness
