    Sedimentary Rocks

Sedimentary rocks is rocks that formed

from other rocks that have been

    weathered, transported, deposited, and

lithificated and become other type of rocksOr,

Formed from organic matter, or chemical

reaction that deposited and lithificatedbefore become rocks.

    Types

Based on rock fragment, there are 2 types:

Clastic rocks, composed of minerals and

rock fragments that were transported by

moving fluids and deposited when thesefluids stopped.

    Non Clastic rocks, composed of

chemical reaction deposits or organicmatter which was deposited

    Parts

    Rocks fragments, as rocks main

    component,

    Matrix, as rocks basic mass

Cement, as the filler between fragments

    and matrix

    Textures

    Colour, the colour of rocks

    Grain size, size of grain

    Sorting, distribution of grain size

    Roundness, the shape of grain

Porosity, a fraction of the volume of

    voids over the total volume

    Fabric, relation between each grain

    Structures

Sedimentary structures are classified in 2types:

    Primary, formed during sedimentation

Example: parallel lamination, gradedbedding, cross bedding, etc

    Secondary, formed after sedimentationfinished

Example: mud cracks, load cast, tracks& trails, etc

    Depositional Environment

    There are 3 main types:

Continental, deposited in land or basininside continent. Example: fluvial (rivers),lacustrine (lakes), aeolian (dunes), and

glacier. Transitional, deposited in zone between

continental and marine. Example: delta, beach, tidal, lagoon.

Marine, deposited in sea. The parts aredivided based on depth, example: neritic, bathyal, abyssal
