UN and Partners call for normative framework to support safe mobility of Pastoralists Research findings in Kenya’s cross-border regions reveal climate change-induced mobility is on the rise and insecurity has heightened The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and Institute for Security Studies (ISS) have partnered since January 2009 June 2010 to assess the impact of Climate Change and adaption strategies being implored by pastoralist communities. The Inter-Agency Report reveals that:- The effects of Climate Change are evident in the pastoralists border regions of Kenya and are influencing mobility patterns amongst Pastoralist communities Insecurity in Pastoralists border regions has increased Some local governments facilitate cross-border pastoralist mobility especially during drought Mobility is often associated with conflict Pastoralists are frustrated with short term aid and want sustainable solutions A Call to Action (Normative Framework and SIM Approach) and the Report will be launched in Nairobi, Kenya on 29 June 2010. The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), United Nations Environment
