SECURING YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK LOGGING IN TO A ROUTER ENABLING YOUR ROUTER’S FIREWALL How to use your router to lock down your home WiFi network to protect your devices and safeguard your informa�on. ENSURE that your computer is connected to the network. FIND your router’s local IP address on a s�cker on the router or its manual (or Google “IP address”). OPEN a web browser and type the IP address into the address bar. ENTER your administra�ve login informa�on (located on a s�cker on the router). CHANGE the admin password. LOG IN to your router. LOOK for a page �tled Security or Firewall. FIND the entry labeled Firewall and click Enable. CLICK Save and Apply. ENSURE that your computer is connected to the network.

FIND your router’s local IP address on a s�cker on the router or its manual (or Google “IP address”).

OPEN a web browser and type the IP address into the address bar.

LOG IN to your router.

1 LOG IN to your router. 2 CLICK the Wireless page. 3 SELECT WPA2 or WPA if available, or select WEP if not. 4 CREATE a network password. 5 CLICK Save or Reply.

CHANGING THE NETWORK NAME

An SSID (service set iden�fier) is the name you see when connec�ng to wireless networks.

1 LOG IN to your router.2 CLICK the Wireless page. 3 FIND the box for changing the Network Name (SSID) or password.

HIDING AN SSIDWith broadcas�ng disabled, someone a�emp�ng to connect to the network would need to know both the SSID and the network password.

1 LOG IN to your router.2 CLICK the Wireless page. 3 DISABLE SSID Broadcast.
