Form Materials: Ply•vood, metal, metal-framed plywood, or other approved panel-type materials toprovide fidl-depth, continoous, s•raight, and smooth exposed sarfaces.

Form-Release Agent: Commercially formulated form-release agent that will not bond with, stain, or

STEEL REINFORCEMENT

Plain-Steel Welded Wire Reinforcement: ASTM A 185/A 185M, fabricated from galvanized-steel wireinto flat sheets.

Bar Sopports: Bolsters, chah's, spacers, aod other devices for spacing, supporting, aod fastenhagreinforcing bars, welded wire reinforcement, and dowels in place. Manufactore bar sopports according toCRSI's "Mamml of Staodard Practice" from steel wire, plastic, or precast concrete of greater compressivestrength than concrete specified, and as follows:

Eqaip wire bar supports with sand plates or horizontal ronners where base material will notsapport chair legs.

2.3 CONCRETE MATERIALS

Use a qualified independent testing agency for preparing and reporthlg proposed concrete designmLxtures for the trial batch method.

When automatic macbine placement is nsed, determine design mixtures and obtain laboratory testt•snlts that meet or exceed requirements.

Air Content: 5-1/2 percent plus or minos 1.5 percent for l-1/2-incb nominal maximum aggregatesize.

CONCRETE MIXING

Ready-Mixed Coucrete: Measure, batch, and mix concrete materials and concrete according toASTM C 94/C 94M and ASTM C 1116/C 1116M. Fnruisb batch certificates for each batch dischargedand used in the Work.

When air temperature is between 85 and 90 deg F, reduce mixing and deliveE¢ time fi'om 1-1/2hours to 75 minntes; when air temperature is above 90 deg F, reduce mixing and delivery thne to60 minotes.

Project-Site Mixing: Measure, batch, and mix concrete materials and concrete according toASTM C 94/C 94M. Mix concrete materials in appropriate drum-type batch machine mixer.

For coucrete batches of 1 cu. yd. or smaller, continue mixing at least 1-1/2 mim•tes, but not morethan 5 minutes after ingredients are in mixer, before any part ofbatch is released.For concrete batches larger than I cu. yd., increase mixing time by 15 seconds for each additional1 cu. yd..

Provide batch ticket for each batch discharged and osed io the Work, indicatiug Projectidentification name and nomber, date, mixture type, mixing time, quantity, and amount of wateradded.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1

A.

EXAMINATION

Examine exposed sabgrades and subbase surfaces for compliaoce with requirements for dimensional,grading, and elevation tolerances.

Proof-roll prepared subbase sorface below concrete paving to identify soft pockets and areas of excessyielding.

Completely proof-loll subbase in one direction. Limit vehicle speed to 3 mph.Pruof-roll with a pneumatic-tired and loaded, 10-wheel, tandem-axle dump truck weighing notless than 15 tons.

Correct subbase with soil spots and areas of pumping or rutting exceeding depth of I/2 inchaccording to reqoirements in Section 312000 "Eartb Moving."

C. Proceed with installation only after nnsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Remove loose material fi'om compacted snbbase sorface itmnediately before placiog concrete.

3.3 EDGE FORMS AND SCREED CONSTRUCTION

Set, brace, and secure edge forms, bolkheads, and intermediate screed guides to required lines, grades,and elevations. Install forms to allow continuous progress of work aud so forms can remain in place atleast 24 honrs after concrete placement.

Clean forms after each nse and coat with form-release agent to ensure separation from concrete without

damage.

STEEL REINFORCEMENT

General: Comply with CRSI's "Manual of Standard Practice" for fabricating, placing, and supportingreinforcement.

Clean reinforcement of loose rast and mill scale, earth, ice, or otber bond-redocing materials.

An'ange, space, and securely tie bars and bar supports to bold reiuforcement in position during concrete

placement. Maintain minhnum cover to reinforcement.

Install welded wire reiuforcement in lengths as long as practicable. Lap adjohring pieces at least ooe full

mesh, and lace splices with wire. Offset laps of adjoining widths to prevent continuous laps in eitherdireetioo.

General: Form construction, isolation, and contraction joints and tool edges troe to line, witb faces

perpendicular to sarface plane of concrete. Coostruct transverse joints at right angles to centerline unlessotherwise indicated.

Construction Joints: Set construction joints at side and end terminatious ofpavlng and at locations where

paving operations are stopped for more than one-halfhour unless paving terminates at isolation joints.

Continue steel reinforcement across construction joints anless otherwise indicated. Do notcontinue reinforcement through sides ofpaving sirips nnless otherwise indicated.

Keyed Joints: Provide preformed keyway-section forms or bolkhead forms with keys unlessotherwise indicated. Embed keys at least l-l/2 inches into concrete.

Isolation Joints: Form isolation joints of preformed joint-filler strips abotiing concrete curbs, catcbbasius, manholes, inlets, structures, other fixed objects, and where indicated.

Locate expansion joints at intervals of 30 feet unless otherwise indicated.Extend joint fillers full width aud depth ofjoint.Terminate joint filler not less titan 1/2 inch or more than I inch below f'mished surface if jointsealant is indicated.

Place top ofjoint filler flosb with finished concrete surface ifjoint sealant is not indicated.Furnish joint fillers in oue-piece lengths. Where more than one length is required, lace or clipjoint-filler sections together.During concrete placement, protect top edge ofjoint filler with metal, plastic, or other temporarypreformed cap. Remove protective cap after concrete has been placed on both sides ofjoint.

Contraction Joints: Form weakened-plane contraction joints, sectioning concrete into areas as indicated.Coustruct contraction joints for a depth equal to at least one-fourth of the concrete thickoess, as follows:

Grooved Joints: Form contraction joints after initial floating by grooving and finishing each edgeof joint with grooving tool to a 1/4-inch radios. Repeat grooving of contraction joints afterapplying sarface finishes.

Doweled Contraction Joints: Install dowel bars and support assemblies at joints where indicated.Lubricate or coat with asphalt one-half of do•vel length to prevent concrete bonding to one side ofjoint.

CONCRETE PLACEMENT

Before placing concrete, inspect and complete formwork installation, steel reinforcement, and items to beetnbedded or cast-in.

Remove snow, ice, or frost from snbbase surface and steel reinforcement before placing concrete. Do notplace concrete on frozen surfaces.

Moisten subbase to provide a aniform dampened condition at time concrete is placed. Do not placeconcrete around manholes or other structures until they are at required finish elevation aud alignment.

Comply with ACI 301 reqairements for measuring, mixing, transporting, and placing concrete.

Do not add water to concrete during delivery or at Project site. Do not add water to fresh concrete aftertesting.

Deposit and spread concrete in a continnons operation be0.veen transverse joints. Do not push or dragconcrete into place or ose vibrators to move concrete into place.

Consolidate concrete according to AC1 301 by mechanical vibrating equipment snpplemented by handspading, rodding, or tamping.

Cousolidate concrete along face of forms and adjacent to transverse joints with an internalvibrator. Keep vibrator away from joint assemblies, reinforcement, or side forms. Use onlysquare-faced shovels for hand spreading and consolidation. Consolidate with care to preventdislocating reinforcement joint devices.

Screed paving surface with a straightedge and strike off.

Commence initial floating nsing bnfl floats or darbies to impart an opeu-textored and uniform surfaceplane before excess moisture or bleed water appears on the surface. Do not fi•rther distorb concretesurfaces before beginniug finishing operations or spreading sorface treatments.

Cold-Weather Placemeut: Protect concrete work from physical damage or reduced strength that conld becaused by frost, freezing, or low temperatnres. Comply with ACI 306.1 and the following:

When ah" tempemtnre has fallen to or is expected to fall below 40 deg F, uniformly heat water andaggregates before mixing to obtain a concrete mixtore temperature of not less than 50 deg F andnot more than 80 deg F at point ofplacement.Do not use frozen materials or materials containing ice or snow.

Do not ase calcium chloride, salt, or other materials containing antifreeze agents or chemicalaccelerators unless otherwise specified and approved in design mixtores.

K. Hot-Weather Placement: Comply withACl 301 and as follows when hot-weather conditions exist:

Cool ingredients before mixing to maintain concrete temperature below 90 deg F at thne ofplacement. Chilled mixing water or chopped ice may be nsed to control temperature, providedwater eqnivalent of ice is calculated iu total amount of mLxing water. Using liquid nitrogen tocool concrete is Contractor's option.Cover steel reinlbrcement with water-soaked burlap so steel temperature will not exceed ambient

air temperature immediately before embedding in concrete.

Fog-spray forms, steel reinforcement, and subgrade just before placing concrete. Keep snbgrademoisture uniform without standing water, soft spots, or dry areas.

FLOAT FINISHING

General: Do not add water to concrete surfaces during t'mishing operations.

Float Finish: Begin the secoud floating operation when bleed-water sheen has disappeared and concretesurface has stiffened sufficiently to permit operations. Float surface with power-driven floats or by handfloating if area is small or inaccessible to power units. Finish surfaces to true planes. Cut down highspots and fill low spots. Refloat surface irmnediately to uniform granular texture.

1. Burlap Finish: Drag a seamless strip of damp burlap across float-finished concrete, perpendicularto line of traffic, to provide a uniform, gritty texture.

2. Medium-to-Fine-Textured Broom Finish: Draw a soft-bristle broom across float-f'mished concrete

surface perpendicular to line of traffic to provide a uniform, fine-line texture.

CONCRETE PROTECTION AND CURING

General: Protect ftesbly placed concrete fi'om premature drying and excessive cold or hot temperatures.

Comply with AC1306.1 for cold-weather protection.

Evaporation Retarder: Apply evaporation retarder to concrete surfaces if hot, dry, or windy conditionscause moisture loss approaching 0.2 lb/sq, ft. x b before and during finishing operations. Applyaccording to mamffacturer's written instructions after placing, screeding, and bull ftoating or darbyingconcrete but before float finisbing.

Begin cnring after finishing concrete but not before free water has disappeared from concrete sorface.

Curing Methods: Cure concrete by moisture-retaining-cover curing as follows:

Moisture-Retaining-Cover Curing: Cover concrete surfaces with moistare-retaining cover, placedin widest practicable width, with sides and ends lapped at least 12 inches and sealed by waterprooftape or adhesive. Immediately repair any holes or tears occurring during installation or curingperiod nsing cover material and waterproof tape.

FmLD QUALITY CONTROL

Testing Ageucy: Oxvner will engage a qaafified testing agency to perform tests and inspections.

Testing Services: Testing of composite samples of fresh concrete obtuined according to ASTMC 172shall be performed according to the following reqairements:

Testing Frequency: Obtain at least one composite sample for each 100 cu. yd. or fraction thereofof each concrete mixture placed each day.

When frequency of testing will provide fewer than five compressive-strength tests for eachconcrete mixture, testing shall be condocted fi'om at least five randomly selected batches orfrom each batch if fewer than five are used.

Shnnp: ASTM C 143/C 143M; one test at point of placement for each composite sample, but notless than one test for each day's pour of each concrete mixtnre. Perform additional tests whenconcrete consistency appears to change.

Air Content: ASTM C231, pressure method; one test for eacb composite sample, but not lessthau one test for each day's poar ofeach concrete mixture.

Concrete Temperature: ASTM C 1064/C 1064M; one test hourly wheu air temperature is 40deg F and below and when it is 80 deg F and above, and one test for each composite sample.Compressiou Test Specimens: ASTM C 31/C 31M; cast and laboratory cnre one set of threestandard cylinder specimens for each composite sample.Compressive-Strength Tests: ASTM C 39/C 39M; test one specimen at seven days and twospecimens at 28 days.

A compressive-strength test shall be the average compressive strength from two specimensobtained from same composite sample and tested at 28 days.

Strength of each concrete mixture will be satisfactory if average of any three consecutive compressive-streugth tests equals or exceeds specified compressive strength and no compressive-strength test valnefalls below specified compressive strength by more than 500 psi.

Test results shall be reported in writing to Architect, concrete mannfacturer, and Contractor within 48

honrs of testing. Reports of compressive-strength tests shall contuin Project identification name andnamber, date of concrete placement, name of concrete testiug and inspecting agency, location of concretebatch in Work, design compressive strength at 28 days, concrete mixture proporiions and materials,compressive breaking strength, and type ofbreak for both 7- and 28-day tests.

Noudestructive Testing: hnpact hammer, souoscope, or other nondestructive device may be pel•itted byArchitect but will not be used as sole basis for approval or rejection of concrete.

Additional Tests: Testing and inspecting agency shall make additional tests ofconcrete wheu test resultsindicate that shanp, air entraimnent, compressive strengths, or other requirements have not been met, asdirected by Architect.

Concrete paving will be considered defective if it does not pass tests and inspections.

Additioual testing and inspecting, at Contractor's expense, will be performed to determine compliance ofreplaced or additional work with specified reqnirements.

REPAIRS AND PROTECTION

Remove and replace concrete paving that is broken, damaged, or defective or that does not comply withrequirements ha this Section. Remove work in complete sections from joint to joint artless other•viseapproved by Architect.

Drill test cores, where directed by Architect, when necessary to determine magnitude of cracks ordefective areas. Fill drilled core holes in satisfactory paving areas with portland cement concrete bondedto paviag with epoxy adhesive.

Protect concrete paviug from damage. Exclnde traffic from paving for at least 14 days after placement.When eonstrnction traffic is permitted, maintain paving as clean as possible by removing surface stainsand spillage of materials as they occar.

Maintain coacrete paving free of stains, discoloration, dirt, and other foreign material. Sweep paving notmore than two days before date schednled for Snbstantlal Completion inspections.

opinion shall be required for the completion of said contract in an acceptable manner. All costs and charges incurred bythe Party of file Second Part, together with the costs of completing the work uuder contract, sball be deducted from anymonies die or which may become due said Party ofthe First Part and sarety. In case the expense so incurred by the Partyof the Second Part shall be less than the sum which wonld have been payable under the contract, if it had been completedby said Party of the First Part, then the said Par• of tile First Part and surety shall be entitled to receive the difference,hot in case such expense sball exceed the sum whicb would bave been payable under the contract, then the Party of tbeFirst Part and the surety shall be liable and shall pay to the Party of the Second Part the amount ofsaid excess.

3. The Party of the Secoud Part hereby agrees to pay to tile Par• of the First Part for tile faithfifl performance ofthis agreemeut, subject to additions and deductions as provided in tile specifications or proposal, in lawfid money of theUnited States as follows:

4. Oil or before the 20th day of each calendar month, tile Party of the Second Part shall make payments to theParty of tile First Part on the basis of a duly certified and approved estimate of work perfomled during the precedingcalendar month by the First Party, less five percent (5%) of the amonnt of such estimate which is to be retained by theSecoud Party until all work has been performed strictly in accordance with this agreement and nntil such work has beenaccepted by the Second Par•. The Second Party may elect to waive retainage requirements after 50 percent of the workhas been satisfactorily completed on schedule as referred to in Article 31 of the General Conditions.

5. Upon sabmission by tile First Party ofevidence satisfactory to the Second Par• that all payrolls, material billsand other costs incurred by the First Party in connection with the construction of tbe work bave been paid in fifll, fiualpayment on account of this agreement shall be made within thirty (30) days after the completion by the First Party ofallwork covered by this agreemeat aud the acceptauce ofsuch work by the Second Par•.

6. It is further mutaally agreed between tile parties hereto that if at any time after tile execution of thisagreement and tile surety bonds hereto attached for its faithful performance, the Second Party shall deem tile surety orsureties npon such bonds to be unsatisfactory, or if, for any reason, soch braids cease to be adeqoate to cover tileperfotvaauce of the work, the First Party shall, at its expense, within five (5) days after tbe receipt of notice from theSecond Party so to do, fin'nish an additional bond or bonds in socb forin and amnnnt, and with such surety or sureties asshall be satisfactory to the Second Party. hi such event no hirther payment to the First Party shall be deemed to be doennder this agreement nntil such new or additional secarity for the faltbfid perfomlance of the work shall be fi•mished inulanner nnd form satisfactory to the Second Party.
