• What resources at Penn / Wharton can you leverage?

• Student projects

• Research / library

• Other students

• When you meet, what do you talk about?

Thoughts on Interviewing

14

• Practice, practice, practice

• In front of a mirror, with other students, with mentors

• Prepare, prepare, prepare

• Research firm / role – press, research reports, blogs, etc.

• Talk to other people in the same job / industry

• Get your story down COLD

• Short, punchy, compelling, memorable

• Share mine

• Talk about your experiences in bullet points

• Context -> Complication -> Action -> Result

• Tell a STORY, make it a little dramatic

• Communication

• Speak slowly but with energy, enthusiasm, confidence

• Not an interview but an opportunity to meet someone new

Thoughts on possible intern roles

15

• Technology firms

• Developers

• Marketing – execution and analytical

• Sales – cold calling (not a bad job

really)

• Business development (maybe)

• Media Firms

• Marketing

• Sales

• Other?

• Startups

• Target late stage startups [more stable

and likely more formal opportunities for

training]

• Be aggressive – they have little to no

HR resources, no process so be

scrappy

• Use Crunchbase for research on

funding/capitalization/info

• What you should be looking for

• Strong team: previous

entrepreneurs, successful

executives, etc.

• Strong VC backers

• Good at a particular role, e.g. viral

marketing, etc

• Champion within the firm

• Formal training with transferable

skillset, if possible

• Marketing / analysis

• Technical skills like excel /

powerpoint / word
