SECOND SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 19, 2014

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH-HERE COMES EVERYBODY

This popular way of describing the universality of our Church is a theme of today‟s readings. The prophet Isaiah

tells of God‟s servant who will be the “light of the nations.” It will not be enough for this servant only to bring

back the survivors of Israel‟s dispersion and captivity. God‟s salvation must reach to the ends of the earth. Saint

Paul writes to a local church of mainly Gentiles and presumably former sinners of all kinds in Corinth. He greets

them and tells them that they are to take their place with “saints everywhere” in the name of Jesus Christ. The

Gospel reading from John tells of Jesus‟ commissioning by the Father in the Holy Spirit to bring salvation to all, to

take away the sins of the world. This Chosen One has come to baptize the world in God‟s Spirit. Everybody.

As you hear these words, consider your own task to bring the good news of salvation to everyone you will

meet in the coming days, weeks, years. — J.S. Paluch Co. / Liturgical Year Cycle A

STEWARDSHIP OF TIME: When God gives us LIFE, we

don‟t know how much TIME we have to use that life. But, whatever

time we have is a GIFT FROM GOD, and we must use it WISELY in

every activity throughout the day. We must budget our hours so

that we are able to give of our time to fulfill GOD‟s Plan. How much time do I spend doing HIS will? MY will? Go figure . . .

STORIES of GRANDPARENTS: “Grampa is the

smartest man on earth! He teaches me good things, but I don‟t get to see him enough to get as smart as him!

Gramma is smart, too, but she is not a man. She is a

girl, and I am a boy.” (Clint, 4)

relationship you once had....please give Retrouvaille a try. Our next pro-gram will be starting the weekend of January 10 to 12th. Please check out the website at www.helpourmarriage.com or call Paul or Patty Miguel at 806‐420‐1520 or email at [email protected]

Coordinator NEEDED

We are in need of a coordinator of the meal

Closing Catholic Schools’ Week on Sunday,

Feb 2 after the late liturgy. Call the parish of-

fice if you would like to coordinate. All are asked

to bring a meat dish and a side of either

salad, vegetable or dessert to share with 12-

20 other people. SPECIAL GUEST will be

the Distinguished Graduate from Saint

Anthony School for 2013, chosen from a-

mong those well-nominated.

Humility is the honest assessment of gifts and

challenges for what they are. It is not the hiding of gifts

and talents so that others are not jealous. It is neither

the attitude of doormat nor the attitude of a braggart.

Humility is an authentic acceptance of the gifts that God

has bestowed on us and the development of them to the

best of our abilities. Humility is the acknowledgment of

our failings and sins and the gifts of God‟s grace that

help us overcome them.

“It is too little for you to be my servant,” says

the Lord, “I will make you a light to the nations, that my

salvation may reach the ends of the earth.” We are

called to be light to the nations. Our lives should shine

and reflect the love and salvation offered in and through

the Cross of Jesus Christ. Authentic Christian humility

is directed to the Glory of God and the spread of the

Gospel. Let us shine with all that we have to give.

In Christ

Fr. Tonyn

Here I am,

Lord. . .

THANKS!!

THANKS & BLESSINGS TO ALL WHO CAME TO HELP UN-DECORATE the church

after the Christmas Season ended. God Bless you! — Linda and Charlotte & The Parish

Thank you for your generous giving to the Diocese of Amarillo in the United Catholic Appeal. AS you

know, this money goes to help operate the ministries offered on a Diocesan level from Pro-life and Marriage

Enrichment, to Tribunal work, and Seminarian Education. St. Anthony's had 154 pledges with a grand

total of $62,272.00. As of January 1, 2014, 9 people have made no payment on their pledge. If you have been waiting to pay off your pledge in a lump sum, please consider doing so in the next few

months. If your financial situation has changed, please consider making some payment on your pledge and letting the Diocese know of your desire to change the pledge amount. This helps us in the parish office and the

Diocese know, in general, what money they will have coming in so they can make adjustments to the budget as

needed. Thank you for your kind consideration. Fr. Tony (Parish Goal was $50,819.00)
