Second

Commandment II

1. Thou shalt have none other gods

before me.

2. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image,

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God

in vain:

4. Keep the sabbath day to

sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.

5. Honour thy father and thy

mother,

6. Thou shalt not kill.

7. Neither shalt thou commit

adultery.

8. Neither shalt thou steal.

9. Neither shalt thou bear false

witness against thy neighbour.

10. Neither shalt thou desire thy

neighbour's

Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;Exo 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Rom 2:20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.Rom 2:21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachestthou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?Rom 2:22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

Col 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

1Pe 4:3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

Phl 3:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things

Mar 7:6 – 7 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Idolatry is a matter of heart

What is Worship?

Isa 43:7 — Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.Rom 9:23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

Psa 29:1 Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.Psa 29:2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

Jhn 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seekethsuch to worship him.

Act 18:12 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,Act 18:13 Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

Jhn 4:20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that

in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.Jhn 4:21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem,

worship the Father.

worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the

Father seeketh such to worship him.

Jhn 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worshiphim in spirit and in truth.

Are there different kinds of Worship?

Lev 22:19 Ye shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the beeves, of the sheep, or of the goats.Lev 22:20 But whatsoever hath a blemish, that shall ye not offer: for it

shall not be acceptable for you.

Psa 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my

heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Jer 6:20 To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba,

and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,

that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto

God, which is your reasonable service.Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good,

and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

1Pe 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy

priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by

Jesus Christ.

Why is acceptable worship important?

Hos 4:10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.Hos 4:11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.Hos 4:12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

Eze 16:1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,Eze 16:2 Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,Eze 16:3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.Eze 16:4 And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.Eze 16:5 None eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the lothing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born.

Eze 16:6 And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live.Eze 16:7 I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare.Eze 16:8 Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.

Eze 16:9 Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.Eze 16:10 I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk.Eze 16:11 I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.Eze 16:12 And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.Eze 16:13 Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.Eze 16:14 And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.

Eze 16:15 But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.Eze 16:16 And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so.Eze 16:17 Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them,Eze 16:18 And tookest thy broidered garments, and coveredst them: and thou hast set mine oil and mine incense before them.

Eze 16:19 My meat also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou hast even set it before them for a sweet savour: and thus it was, saith the Lord GOD.Eze 16:20 Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter,

Eze 16:22 And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood.

Eze 16:32 But as a wife that committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband!Eze 16:33 They give gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredom.Eze 16:34 And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary.

Importance of Worship

Mal 1:2 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us?

Mal 1:6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?

Mal 1:7 Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.Mal 1:8 And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
