LogosDiscription: Three different logo variations for the same company.

Date: 2/24/2016

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-01 - Visual MediaBen Pingel

Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator

Objectives: Create a logo for a professional company using Adobe Illustrator

aiming at a specific audience.

Process: I began by deciding on a company or organization I wanted to design for. I decided on a dream company that I have always wanted to start. So I started the design process by getting ideas from the internet. I then began designing. I knew I really liked a circle theme but I tried a couple other ideas. I ended up really liking a certain idea and I went with it. I received some feedback by a couple of my peers and it helped a lot. I ended up editing the final a little bit but stuck mainly to the original copy. I felt great about the way the final turned out.

Date: 2/14/2016

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-01 - Visual MediaBen Pingel

Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop

Objectives: Create a spiritual and inspirational montage with multiple layers

and photos blended together.

Process: I first sought out a photo i could use as some type of background. I wasn’t planning on having other things in the background but I really liked this one when I found it. I then added some of my favorite pictures of Christ representing in the photo that the man look-ing to the skies is amazed but not by the stars he sees but by the Savior he thinks of as he’s sees his creations. My rough draft was simpler but for my final i shifted the background over trying to hit more lines on the rule of thirds. I changed up the font a little as well and added an extra photo in the sky to fill a little better.

Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop

Objectives: Create a motivational poster using a photo I took , combining a

color scheme.

Process: I began by planning out my picture that i wanted to take and in-corporating a color scheme into the picture. I planned on blurring out the shoes and having the shooter in the background clear but i played with it and the shoes being focused ended up looking better. I played with the saturation, levels and selective colors so that the color scheme would align a little better. I messed with the floor so that it was a yellow color. I struggled incorporating the swatch with my color scheme at first but then I tried a few different options while still keeping it as simple as I could. I like having negative space usually but this project I had to work with a few different elements.final turned out.

Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign

Objectives: Create a professional brochure for a company or product with photos.

Process: I first started by thinking about what company I wanted to do this brochure for. I came up with the idea to be an advertising company for the Portland Trail Blazers basketball team. I began by making sketching a logo design and making it on illustrator. I then began sketching possible ideas for a brochure and began making a layout for that using Indesign. I continued by writing out the body copy and text I would have throughout the brochure. After that was written up I decided on some final pictures to put into the project, and where I would place them. After editing them in photoshop and placing them I started working with other design factors in the brochure such as textwrap.

Looking to the LeadersGoing into the 2015-2016 season this team was projected to finish at the bottom of the list and a losing record because of the lack of star power. After losing four starters last season, including 3 time all-star LaMarcus Aldridge, the Blazers need-ed a new star to step up. As devoted fans have seen since his rookie season, Point Guard Damian Lillard is the new face of the franchise. With stats stronger than those of Derrick Rose’s during his MVP season, Lillard has risen up with the best season ever put on by a Blazers Point Guard. Along with Lillard, his partner in crime, C.J. McCollum has put up very

impressive stats as well. The two combined are one of the top

5 duos in the NBA right now. As playoffs creep-

ing up the City of Roses turns to

#0 and #3 to lead them to a championship.

RISE WITH US!Your Portland Trail Blazers are shocking the league this season. Rising up against all the doubters and critics, Rip City has established themselves this season as a force to be reckoned with. Take part as the team and Rose City rally together and finish this season strong, putting fear in the eyes of their western conference opponents in the heading into the playoffs. Check out their end of the season schedule on the back.

FLASHBACKWith the talk around the league being focused on the Golden State Warriors record breaking season, shooting to break the record of a 72-10 season, we flash back to one of the most memorable seasons put up by the Blazers. During the 1991-1992 season Rip City went all the way to the championship round but lost to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. This season Portland has the ability to upset Stephen Curry and the Warriors in their own conference.

I then proceeded to get inspiration on Internet by looking at examples. After being sufficiently inspired started creating the logo on Adobe Illustrator. Then I placed the logo into my stationary that i created using Adobe Indesign. After feeling good about my deign I got two critiques to help give me feedback. sional Logo

Date: 3/13/2016

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-01 - Visual MediaBen Pingel

Programs/Tools: Notepad++

Objectives: Using my past logo, create a webpage describing the process of

making that logo.

Process: To create this webpage I used Notepad++ on my PC. I inserted the correct codes and confirmed them in WWW.W3.com to make sure there were no errors. I also edited some elements of the page using both the CSS formatting and the html formatting. I wrote out my personal process of creating my logo and edited the colors within the webpage to create some simple repetition. I also placed a my logo onto my webpage as a .png file. I learned a lot about coding a webpage and the biggest struggle I had was getting everything perfectly right because if there was one little mistake then it could possibly mess up the whole webpage.

Event AdDiscription: Event promoting poster for a charity event

Date: 1/31/2016

Course/Instructor: Comm 130-01 - Visual MediaBen Pingel

Programs/Tools: Microsoft Word

Objectives: Create an event ad promoting a non-profit fundraiser.

Process: I started out by deciding on what type of event i wanted to pro-mote. I came up with a family friendly sports event to raise money for Boys and Girls Clubs of America. I then went searching for a picture I could scan and place on the flyer and found this one that shows teamwork, a little competitiveness but also a fun time. I thought it fit well for the event. I then went about adding the information to the poster about the event. I wanted the message to be clear and simple that leaves people without any questions of what the event is but also using as little words as possible. For the color scheme had chosen a brighter scheme at first but decided that it looked like it was taking away from the message and was more for a younger audience when my ideal audience is parents of young families who can bring their whole family to the event. I changed to a little bit darker scheme that seemed to fit well with the message.

Programs/Tools: Adobe Indesign

Objectives: Create a black and white flier to promote the leadership conference on campus

Process: I drafted a few sketches of the layout of the flier and decided on one i really liked. I began to create my sketch on Adobe InDesign. I made the flier simple with a clear message in large font and bold letters with a picture at the top to start the flow of where the page would take them. I tried to simplify as much as i could, leaving a few spots of white space throughout the flier.

Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop

Objectives: Create a photo inviting people to come to SodaVine a local comapa-

ny using photoshop.

Process: I began by asking the shop if I could create a potential photo they could put on they’re social media platforms. After taking the picture I began to edit it using Adobe Photoshop. After changing the shadowing and editing a couple things out of the picture that I didn’t want in there I began adding text to the wall behind us. Sharpening up the image made it look nicer. Later I sent it to them and they said they could hopefully post it soon!
