Captain Joan’s Jottings

What an amazing world it is at the moment.

I hope you are all keeping safe and well and finding plenty to keep you sane during these self-isolation and social distancing days.

A lot of emails are being exchanged which is a great way to stay connected.

I am up in the hills for the foreseeable future and looking forward to being able to play golf together again in the not too distant future.

The trouble with getting things done is that if you know you have heaps of time, not much gets done.

“You have less time when you have more time than when you have no time.”

Our trial of monthly Presentation Days for our Tuesday 9 hole competitions on the first Tuesday of each month is on hold until the course reopens and competition resumes.

Maggie Shea has been liaising the purchase of club shirts from Tristan. Fingers crossed it will be not long before we can wear them.

We shall all see each other soon, hopefully. Stay well.

THE PRO SHOP Contact Tristan or Andrew at Pro Shop Phone: 9384 8879

Tristan has been keeping us well informed of the ever changing situation, limitations and requirements for the club during this challenging coronavirus time.

It was possible to play in groups of ONE but the latest directive is that course must be CLOSED from 1 April.

LINKS BAR AND GRILL The Links Bar and Grill is CLOSED

until further notice. Jo provided takeaway meals for as

long as possible.

No action around the fairways and greens from 1 April 2020 until further notice

Perhaps therapy during self isolation/social distancing time might be studying the Rules of Golf!

If you do not have a rule book there is always youtube.

BUNKERS

The right hand bunker on 2nd fairway, and greenside at 14th which are being turned into grass bunkers are filling in nicely and will be all systems go when we are allowed back on the course.

They have been GUR. See Rule 16 Ground Under Repair.

CORING AND SANDING

took place at the beginning of March and the course is recovering well and looking in great shape. It is a pity we are not able to take full advantage.

Thank you Gary and your team.

VW SCRAMBLE

Our representatives at the State Playoff, Jane Cowling, Gerry Ellis, Nicki Netherway and Marlene O’Mara organised a special skirt as an attractive uniform before being advised that the game was cancelled. No holiday at the Sunshine Coast girls!

Jane Cowling, Marilyn Daventry and Eleonore Fuchter have been seen enjoying the beach after golf during the hot weather. Very sensible.

Welcome to the Jandalakes Ladies who have had a couple of games on a Thursday before course closure. We look forward to sharing the course with you again, sooner rather than later.

Barbara Foulsham thwarted again on her attempts to visit Kangaroo Island.

Eleonore Fuchter was back from trip to Sydney and Canberra just before travel restrictions were put in place.

Karen Hodson back from New Zealand and straight into two weeks self-isolation. The new clubs will stay new for a bit longer.

Jill Mason enjoyed her special ‘0’ birthday in spite of a broken toe.

Happy birthday wishes to anyone else having a birthday which we will

be unable to celebrate together. We will have a huge celebration when life returns to some form of normality

Marion Gathercole and Gerry Ellis recognised St Patrick’s Day by the wearing of the green.

Many golfers (playing in groups of ONE or with a house member) took advantage of the glorious weather to enjoy golf on our beautiful course before it was closed.

“If this goes on for to long I’ll have to have new carpet laid with all my practice.” Comment from one of our ladies who is making good use of the “off the course” time. Perhaps she should learn some new skills. (see videos on front page)

VETERAN WOMEN GOLFERS Eleven ladies signed up for Veterans and were looking forward to playing at 6 different course around the metropolitan area and playing different team games.

Competition cancelled until further notice. If competitions resume this year it will be pay as you go.
