1 From the Helm Gary Nasby- Commandant Hiram I. Bearss Det. #089 At our last Gun Show appearance, I was asked many times, “ What does this mon- ey go for that you earn?” My standard answer is that we support these things on the poster back here. They are the Young Marines, the Crumbo Scholarship, VAVS at the VA hospital, family support for deployed Marines, and Toys for Tots. Later I started thinking about all the other things we do that Detachment money is spent on, besides our operating expenses to be in our home, Marine Barracks Indy. We budget and donate money to the JROTC programs at Ben Davis and Warren Central Schools. We are cur- rently donating to the Homes for Wounded Warriors project out of Peru, Indiana. We support the Eagle Scout Program in which Fred has done almost 100 Ea- gle Scout graduations this year, giving out a medallion and certificate of recognition. We visit the VA hospital a couple of times a year giving out gifts to the hospital- ized veterans of all branches. We are funding the equipment for formation of the Color Guard to be able to participate in parades and functions and to honor our fallen at funerals. We have funded purchases for the museum at HIB. We have made a donation and will continue to do so for the Veterans House project on the opposite page. We have to date for the calendar year our charitable donations have totaled $12,270, more than double each of the previous 2 years. So I hope you feel as I do that we are on track in accom- plishing our mission of charitable donations. Keep our troops in harms way in your prayers, and Good Night Chesty wherever you are!
