SculptureA three-dimensional work of art that stands out in space. Sculptures have height, width and depth (form).
There are two basic types of sculpture. They are:Freestanding sculpture: sculpture that is surrounded on all sides by space. Sometimes this is known as “in the round”.Relief sculpture: sculpture that is only partly enclosed by space. It is usually flat along the back and only meant to be viewed from the front.
Carving- cutting or chipping away from a mass (stone, wood).
Casting- melted materials are poured into molds to harden (bronze, wax, plaster).
Modeling- soft, workable materials are shaped by hand (clay).
Assembling- gathering and joining different materials (wood, wire, glue)
