Application

The air enters into a cyclone designed to remove the majority of the dust and direct it to a collection container that has UVC germicidal lamps with 2-4 mJ/cm2 intensity.

Novatec’s ScrubX features a multi-stage air circulator, scrubber, and sanitizer that traps airborne particulate and then kills any viral matter automatically with a multi-staged ultraviolet system. Any dust or pathogens, including coronavirus, that are too fine to be removed by the cyclone enters a second stage ultra HEPA filter lined canister that will remove dust down to 0.1 micron.

The second stage filter also has additional 2-4 mJ/cm2 intensity UVC germicidal lamps.

The outlet airflow is directed to an exhaust vent which also contributes to the room circulation.

The system receives feedback from particulate monitoring sensors located in dust prone areas to ensure cleaning of the dust is effective and the factory dust level is within safety limits.

What led to the development of the ScrubX Sanitizing System? Is it based on any of Novatec’s existing technology? ScrubX is a new product developed in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Although it uses a cyclone and HEPA filters commonly used in Novatec’s conveying and drying systems, the design of the cyclone filter for ScrubX is different and is customized for the application.

Why is ScrubX a valuable addition to factories? Submicron particulates have always been bad for human health, but with the threat of Covid-19, particulates, and dust accumulation are making the factory environment highly vulnerable to virus transmission. Research has shown that almost 99% of the Covid-19 virus transmis-sion happens indoors and in airborne forms. Surface transmission has proved to be negligible. It’s also well-known that masks do very little to stop the 0.1-micron Covid-19 virus. Therefore, it is imperative that factories do their best to clean the plastic dust in real-time before the particulate can become a carrier of Covid-19 or other airborne viruses.

How is ScrubX different from what’s on the market? Most of the automatic dust cleaners available on the market are outdoor units and work mostly as electro-static filters or dust collectors for dust particles that have an impact on breathing. Existing units do not sterilize the dust using UVC. ScrubX is also a “smart” machine that receives feedback on particulate levels from sensors, which measures dust from 0.3- 40 microns in size. The “smart” ScrubX system ensures that particulates are removed from the factory air efficiently. It’s a full-blown Internet of Things (IoT)-based, modern dust cleaning system where multiple machines with multiple particulate sensors can be deployed to effectively clean the dust in the factory.

Who should purchase ScrubX? Plastic factories are the primary customers. But ScrubX is essential to any factory that performs cutting and polish-ing processes such as wood, food, pharma, construction materials (stone, brick, granite), metal, etc. Aside from fac-tories, even retail stores should be using ScrubX because they are full of micro-plastic and micro-food dust.

How does ultraviolet C (UVC) kill viruses and bacteria? UVC radiates the dust with wavelengths between 200-280 nm. A protein of any kind absorbs at 220 nm, 254 nm, and 278 nm, and it breaks the amino acid bonds. By decomposing the protein chain, UVC destroys the mole-cules of the COVID-19 virus and others. This technology has been used extensively in the past for disinfecting things such as laboratory glove boxes and laboratory instruments.

Is UVC safe for people? UVC is not safe for prolonged exposure to people. There are established limits. However, all the UVC that is pro-duced and used in ScrubX is internal, and there is abso-lutely no external exposure to personnel. It can only be opened after power has been removed, and the required sanitization time has been met.

Is it expensive? Fortunately, the cost is reasonable to provide the safe-guarding of the plant and its personnel. If your goal is to protect your employees, the price is reasonable.

When did the product launch? This product is a new entry into the market, but interest has been quite good. This product is a good fit for the current business climates as well as future periods when bacteria and viruses could be present.
