Script Reflection

Candice Marshall Script Reflection In my experience, I can be creative sometimes, but it takes a lot of work! I am not a theater person and have a hard time coming up with good ideas. Matt says a lot in class to “write about what you know”. I understand where he’s coming from, because obviously writing about what you know is going to be a lot easier than writing about something that you have never experienced. The hardest part about this assignment for me was coming up with the treatment. I had no idea what I wanted the story to be about, and honestly no idea which direction I wanted it to go in. I started it and within the first few minutes I knew where I wanted to take the story. I think I could have done a better, more creative job, but it probably would have taken me a lot longer than a week. In high school I was in a drama class, and it was a lot like my character, Mr. Fee’s, drama class. My teacher was really, really quirky and crazy and always liked to keep us guessing what he would do next. We had the token kid who thought he was amazing and didn’t deserve any critiques, and then we had the kid that was amazing, but modest. While I was brainstorming for my treatment, my drama class popped into my mind and I knew I had to write about that. I was able to write about what I know, and develop characters a lot like the kids I knew from high school. I would say the thing I need to work on the most if I were to ever have to do this again is the script. I need to be able to make it more fluent, and real. It was very difficult for me to make them sound like they were actually sitting around in a classroom and having real conversations.
