Literacy This week our focus is on Stories From Other Cultures. Watch this video called ‘Birthday Boy’ https://www.literacyshed.com/the-other-cultures-shed.html Activity 1 Activity 2 Activity 3

Write at least 2 paragraphs stating the similarities and differences between Manuk’s life and ours. Consider the things that he sees and hears in his local area as well as how he might feel . Use these sentence starters: In Manuk’s town, there are… whereas in my local area there are… Some similarities between Manuk’s life and my life are that...

Retell the part of the story when Manuk throws a stone and it accidently hits the man passing by on a bike. You can write it as if it is a diary entry by Manuk in first person or retell the events in the third person . Consider what he was doing and how he felt before, during and after the incident. Would he have been excited? Nervous? Guilty? Scared? Surprised?

Write a letter between Manuk and his father. Consider how Manuk feels about his father - what evidence is there of this? Where do you think his father is? What evidence tells you this? What events could Manuk tell his father about? The stone throwing? The train carrying tanks?

Reading This website has thousands of books to read and you can check that they are in your range too! https://readon.myon.co.uk/library/browse.html

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zncsscw/year-6-and-p7-lessons/1 In Year 6, the expectation is that children can recall all of their times tables up to and including 12. Have a go at competing against your classmates using TTBlast on LGFL. https://www.j2e.com/j2blast Have a go at some of the lessons on BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zncsscw/year-6-and-p7-lessons/1

Science Last week we learnt evolution- write down everything you can remember! Offspring inherit characteristics off their parents. They also sometimes have some different characteristics due to mutations . When this happens over hundreds of thousands of years, species change ( evolve ) and become better suited to their environment! This is called adaptation . Do you remember the story of the Brown Bear evolving into the Polar Bear? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zpqw2hv Let’s find out more about adaptation- remember to take some notes!

- http://www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/adaptation.htm - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvhhvcw/articles/zxg7y4j - https://wwf.panda.org/knowledge_hub/teacher_resources/webfieldtrips/hab_ad

aptation/ Look at all the different adaptations the camel has evolved so it is better able to survive in its habitat (the desert).

1) What might happen if it didn’t have these adaptations? E.g. If it didn’t have long eyelashes, it may get damaged eyes due to sand struggle to see and, therefore, find food. This might mean it would die.

2) Think of 2 different animals who have different habitats (see examples below) and write a list of adaptations they have that help them survive!

- Could your animals survive in each other's habitat? Why or Why not? - What adaptations would make them even better at surviving in their habitat? 3) Explore different adaptations of different animals:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zx882hv/resources/1 Next steps: Have a go at the activities related to adaptation- how much have you remembered? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zjf3rj6

RE/P4C Morality - Watch the video ‘Why Should I Be Good?’which is about a boy named Ben and an invisibility ring. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/hfDhM2zXMPmfbLsSdrSgJp/why-should-i -be-good

1. What is the first good thing Ben imagines doing with the ring? 2. How does Ben use the ring with Sophie? 3. What happens when Ben plays football with Karim? 4. What is Ben doing when Sophie catches him 'in the act'? 5. What does Sophie tell Ben to do?

PSHE Download a timetable to help plan out your activities for the week. These can be found on the school website under ‘Borrow Box’: https://poolespark.com/home-learning-and-other-resources/

RE Last week we thought about our codes for living and who they are decided by. Write down as many places as you can where people get their codes for living. Here is a bit of information about just some of the codes for living in different religions: Hinduism : https://wiki.kidzsearch.com/wiki/Dharma Christianity and Judaism : https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z687tfr Islam : https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/religious-education-ks2-my-life-my-religi on-what-is-islam/zbmrwty Use this information, your own knowledge and Kidznet ( https://net.kidzsearch.com/ ) to answer the following questions:

1) Are there any similarities across the religions in their codes for living? Write them down. E.g. In all religions, it is forbidden to kill.

2) Are there any differences across religions in codes for living? 3) Why do you think each religion has these rules?

Are there any of these codes/rules for living atheists (non-religious people) might still follow? Why do you think they follow them?

Music Your child enjoys a music lesson at school each week. Pooles Park uses Charanga.com which is an online teaching resource to support their music curriculum. Your child now has a log in to use the home learning section of the website. Please find their login details in their year group home learning folder. Song resources and lessons have been added to their workspace for them to complete. We hope you enjoy it and feel free to join in with the fun! Alternatively you can use https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z7tnvcw to access additional music education.

Art Study and appraise landscape paintings by Georgia O’Keeffe

1. Write down 5 things you notice about the paintings. 2. What do you think the artist is showing? 3. What questions do you have about what you see? 4. What can the image tell you about the artist (photographer, painter, sculptor,

etc.)? What do you see that makes you say that? 5. What words help to describe this artwork?

Follow the steps to create your own drawing in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe. https://www.happyfamilyart.com/art-lessons/art-history-for-kids/georgia-okeeffe-art-his tory-lesson-for-kids/ If you don’t have colours can you use different shading to create darker and lighter areas?

Geography

Case Study Of A Region - The Grand Canyon

Watch this video about how the Grand Canyon was formed:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktf73HNZZGY

1. What different features of the canyon are mentioned? 2. How would you describe the Grand Canyon? 3. What words would you use to describe the Grand Canyon? 4. How many layers can you see? 5. How many different colours can you see? 6. Why do they think the layers look different from each other? 7. Write down your ideas – what do you think erosion means?

Now watch this video that explains what erosion is:

Computing Algorithms – An algorithm is a precise sequence of instructions, or set of rules, for performing a task. Choreograph (create) a dance to a song of your choice. Record the algorithm (instructions) for your task. Use the cards below or invent your own.

Page 8: Screen Time Fiver Challenge OD,1WDPG4,QSMP,1 NHS ... · Fiver Challenge : Move onto part three of the Fiver Challenge booklet. Now you have done your market research it’s time to

Your dance moves could be very simple (e.g. jump, spin, wave arms), or more complex (e.g. floss, dab). Make sure you have your algorithm in the correct order and have a card, picture, painting or action figure to represent each dance move. If you have repeated moves use a repeat sign, or use additional (more) copies of the move cards! Persuade as many people as possible to follow your dance algorithm. You can explain that an algorithm is a sequence of instructions to get something done and they need to help you finish your homework!
