Include your album title right on the front cover like Kim Watson did to clearly

communicate the occasion depicted in your mini album. In addition to setting the tone

for your album, the decorated cover also makes the album a fantastic conversation

piece for keeping on your coffee table or a superb gift for a friend or family member.

Space is at a premium in most mini albums, so put every available space to work—

including the inside cover. You can even think of this space as an extra page that allows

you to fit more memories in your mini album, which will help you relive the event

every time you look through it. Use the inside cover (your title page) to introduce the

celebration with

* a dedication to someone special,

* journaling about the preparations or events leading up to the celebration,

* an invitation or tickets,

* photos of the venue before the party starts, or

It’s important to capture the details from your holidays and

celebrations to allow you to re-create those events in your

mind and on your layouts—and with the do-able photo tips

and ideas in this article, you’ll be well on your way to seizing

the entire story behind your special day. Getting those details

It’s also about capturing the emotions associated with those

celebrations, because that’s where the real stories lie.

For example, these types of emotions are often found

in photos of the little details, like a secret glance between

capture emotion Zoom in close to your subject to capture the emotion on

their face to get the whole story. For example, notice on Suzy

Plantamura’s layout how she cropped in tight on the small

boy, because she wanted to capture the joy on his face and

his excitement about his mom getting married. Photos like

these are important because we get to see the emotion behind

the event and not just the celebration, which makes for more

meaningful memories. Make a point to capture the feelings that

a special day brings to you and those in attendance; including

candid shots of your subjects showcasing their elation on this

happy occasion and helps re-create that joy on your layout.

Suzy says, “Take candid photos of your subject to capture

their emotion and excitement of a special day or celebration.

Crop in for an even more dramatic feel.”

MUST-HAVE PHOTOS THAT SHOW EMOTION

When capturing the behind-the-

scene details at a celebration, be

sure to include these close-up

shots that show emotion:

* the excitement on the face of the

ring bearer or flower girl,

* a mother looking into the eyes of

her brand new baby, or

* the joy on a graduate’s face while

accepting his or her diploma.
