The award contains both mandatory and optional units, which the candidate in consultation with the supervisor or manager agree on.
They are all practical work based units and are assessed in the laundry premises.

The candidate has to achieve a total of 5 units,
3 of which are mandatory to gain the award.
These are:• Health, Safety & Security at Work• Sorting items & make up loads for cleaning• Inspect & prepare laundered & cleaned items
for dispatch

chooses 1 from each group
Option group 1 (choose 1)• Carry out the wash process ( extractor) This is the
only option for prisons
• Clean items by continuous batch washing process
• Process cabinet roller towels in one stage

Option group 2 (choose 1)• Tumble dry items
• Press & finish items following laundry
• Process flat work through calenders
• Dry-finish & inspect garments using a tunnel finisher
• Form finish & inspect garments using steam/air

What work is involved?
• All SVQ`s are worked based• There are NO written exams• They gather the evidence they require for
each unit in the normal day to day work process
• They work through an approved SQA training support pack and gain evidence and knowledge requirments

• All assessments are carried out in the laundry by trained assessors, your supervisors.
• There is no fail, they are assessed as to their competency in the unit and help to do this is given by their assessor or supervisor.
• They agree with the assessor when they are ready for assessment

What will they achieve? Recognition for the work they do in the
laundry An internationally recognised award Meet the requirements for the hygiene,
cleanliness and infection control of the linen leaving the laundry
