Cover On

Heads Up Display (HUD): allows for continuous monitoring of air supply:

o At full air supply – 2 green lights o At ¾ air supply – 1 green light o At ½ air supply – 1 yellow flashing light o At ¼ air supply – 1 red flashing light with

vibra-alert activation o Orange light on the right of HUD will flash

only when the HUD batteries are low • 6 AA batteries = approximately 80 hrs. of

service life

Donning • Ensure all straps are fully extended and not tangled • Place SCBA on the ground (or hold in front of your

body while standing), cylinder down, harness up, with cylinder valve away from body

• Open cylinder valve completely (you should hear 3 chirps to indicate your SCBA is on)

• Grasp Wireframe at the center with both hands • Lift SCBA above head and bend forward • Lay SCBA on back, with arms inside shoulder straps • Tighten shoulder straps down as you straighten up • Fasten waist strap and adjust to your waist size

Donning (Cont’d) • Don your AV-Series mask • Slide hood over mask and put helmet on • Hold regulator with red purge valve at the 12 o’clock

position over your mask • Place regulator over mask and make quarter turn

counterclockwise until regulator tab clicks in • Take one rapid breath to begin air flow and then

begin breathing normally • Ensure HUD indicator lights are on and displaying 2

green lights (if cylinder is full)

Doffing • Remove regulator from your facepiece by using release

tab and depressing saver switch simultaneously • Fully extend all straps (shoulder and waist) • Unclip waist strap and remove from shoulders • Turn off cylinder valve completely • Bleed all air from the system by opening purge valve

(keep open until vibra-alert briefly activates) • Press yellow multi-function button on control console

twice to turn unit off (you may hear a few chirps before unit beeps to indicate it is off)

• If the unit does not turn off ensure cylinder valve is closed and all air is truly relieved from the system

Maintenance: General End User Maintenance • Changing batteries

o Turn screw in battery cover counterclockwise o Remove cover (screw will remain set in cover) o Remove all old batteries and replace with new

ones o Once batteries are replaced and cover is

re-secured, turn on airpack to inspect that HUD is functioning

Maintenance (cont’d): • Ensure coupling gasket is in place and replace as

needed • Clean all components with manufacturer

recommended cleaning components

Inspection: • Inspect harness and wireframe (look for warn or

fraying straps) • Inspect your AV-series facepiece for cracks in the lens

or in the face seal and missing components (check nose seal, voicemitters, head harness, etc.)

• Inspect cylinder: o 1st remove cylinder from Airpack o Check hydro date (5 years on Carbon Fiber),

inspect valve, threads, gauge and outside wrap for cuts, deformities, etc.

Inspection (Cont’d): • Place cylinder back in airpack to continue inspection • Begin with E-Z Flo regulator:

o Check for deformities throughout regulator and hose

o Ensure purge valve is off o Ensure air saver switch is depressed o Connect regulator to a facepiece

• Remove regulator quick disconnect hose coupling and then reconnect to ensure ease of connection point

Inspection (Cont’d): • Before turning on the airpack, activate manual pak

alert by hitting red button once to ensure it is functional (hit yellow button twice to clear)

• Inspect control console and cables for cracks or breaks

• Check battery level: o Press and hold yellow multi-function button o If a green button flashes on control console

batteries check okay o If the light is red or does not display, batteries do

not have sufficient power

Inspection (Cont’d): • Open cylinder valve while listening and looking for

the following: o Regulator vibra alert alarm (short activation) o Pack alert will sound 3 short chirps o All 5 lights on HUD will illuminate

• Check Control Console to ensure: o Gauge is reading at full o Green light is flashing

Inspection (Cont’d): • Connect regulator to facepiece and check the

following: o Place mask to face and inhale sharply to begin

breathing air o Press air saver switch and remove from face o Check purge valve to ensure air will flow freely

Inspection (Cont’d): • Ensure HUD & vibra alert respond to no air:

o Shut down cylinder and place mask over face o breathe down all air in the system o HUD should respond to no air and vibra alert

should activate

Inspection (Cont’d): • Leave airpack motionless for 10 seconds to allow

pak alert to begin pre-alarm cycle, shake airpack to ensure motion will stop the alarm

• Again leave airpack motionless, now for 30 seconds, and allow pak alert to go into full alarm o Clear out this alarm by pressing yellow

Inspection (Cont’d): • Follow turn off instructions in the operation section

of this presentation • If any issues are found in performing your airpack

inspection tag the airpack as needing repair and ensure it is serviced by a Certified Scott Safety Technician
