THOMAS ALVA EDISON

Thomas Edison's greatest challenge was the a practical electric light. He didn't "invent" the light bulb, but he improved the 50-year-old idea. In 1879, he was able to produce a reliable, long-lasting source of light. Edison's great achievement was inventing not just an useful electric light, but also an electric lighting system that contained all the elements necessary to make the light practical, safe, and economical (cheap). After one and a half years of work, success was achieved when an lamp burned for thirteen and a half hours.

These were the development of:

1.The parallel circuit,

2.A durable light bulb,

3.An improved dynamo,

4.The underground conductor network,

5.The devices for maintaining constant voltage,

6.Safety fuses and insulating materials

7.Light sockets with on-off switches.

ANDRE-MARIE AMPERE

The Ampere – the unit for measuring electric current – was named in honour of Ampère. In the past, an Ampere was the force generated between parallel electrically charged wires, but as scientific knowledge gets better over time, the definition of “Ampere” sometimes changes slightly also.

(1775-1836),

Alessandro Volta Alessandro Volta was born on February 18th 1745 and died on the

1827. Alessandro Volta invented the FIRST primary battery. We still use batteries today. We use battery for our phones electrical circuits in science and lots of other things. He made an electrophorus in 1774, it produced static electricity.

Named In Honour Of Alessandro Volta:1. VOLT- The unit of

electromotive force that causes a current to flow.

2. PHOTOVOLTAIC- Photovoltaic are systems that make light energy into electricity. The term ‘photo’ is a prefix from the GREEK word ‘phos’, which means light.

Luigi Galvani

Born; September 9th 1737

Died: December 4 1798 (61)

Discovered current of electricity

During the 1790s, Italian physician Luigi Galvani demonstrated what we now understand to be the electrical basis of nerve impulses when he made frog muscles twitch by jolting them, with a spark from an electrostatic machine.
