Science Fair
October 8, 2013 in Cherokee gym6:30 – 7:00 pm – set-up6:50 pm – presentations begin
Scouts can do project by themselves or with one partner
One rule: must follow the Scientific Method

The Scientific Method

Ask a Question
What temperature is best for popping popcorn?
![Page 5: Science fair presentation 090913](https://reader038.fdocuments.net/reader038/viewer/2022110114/5481bea4b4af9f8c0d8b45ef/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Research

Hypothesis
My hypothesis is that cooking popcorn over high heat will produce best popcorn.
![Page 7: Science fair presentation 090913](https://reader038.fdocuments.net/reader038/viewer/2022110114/5481bea4b4af9f8c0d8b45ef/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Conduct Experiment
Group 1: Low heatGroup 2: Medium heatGroup 3: High heat
Only the heat setting will change (independent variable.)
All other aspects we will try to keep the same, including time cooking (1 minute).

Draw Conclusion
Conclusion: My hypothesis was wrong. High heat did not produce best popcorn; it produced burnt popcorn.
Medium heat produced best popcorn of the three heat levels tested.

Final Thoughts • Every Scout or group will present their project at least
once to a Science Fair judge
• Projects will be judged on overall quality, with a large emphasis on following the Scientific MethodScientific Method
• Parental support is great • Support, not “doing if for them”
• Making mistakes is encouraged
• Having Fun is Required!
• More info coming…including ideas
