CIENTEC is a state-owned foundation that joins the State Department

of Economic Development, Science and Technology (SDECT), of the

State Government of Rio Grande do Sul.

Former headquarter of

ITERS (1942-1972)

CIENTEC was founded in 1972,

and is the successor of the

Technological Institute of the State of

Rio Grande do Sul (Instituto

tecnológico do Estado do RS –

ITERS), which was founded in 1942

as one of the first technological

institutes in Brazil.

CIENTEC provides technological services to either public

or private companies, public agencies, associations, business

entities and individual persons through tests, calibrations,

consulting, inspections, research & development, technological

information, etc.

CIENTEC offers technological solutions in the following

areas: Foods, Building Engineering, Construction Materials

Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Metal Mechanics, Process

Engineering, Chemistry and Geotechnics.

The department focuses on the quality control of foods through

microbiological, microscopic, sensory, physical & microscopic assays and

nutrition labeling.

All its laboratories are accredited by INMETRO (National Institute for

Metrology, Quality and Technology), and recognized by the

REBLAS/ANVISA/MS (National Heath Agency) and the Metrological Network

from the State of Rio Grande do Sul.

chemical composition and physical and chemical properties of samples with

industrial and commercial interests such as feedstocks, products and byproducts

Electronic Engineering

The department develops electro-electronic products through

technological services to the industrial sector which include advisory,

consulting, analysis, tests, essays and calibrations. It also performs Research

and Development Projects.

Its laboratories are accredited by the ISO 17025 standards, in the

CGCRE (Coordenação Geral de Acreditação do Inmetro) of INMETRO.

The department provides advisory and technical consulting and

offers analysis, tests, assays and technical inspections to both the public

and private entities. It also conducts research and development activities of

novel technologies related to its field of knowledge.

Its laboratories are enabled to perform tests and technical

inspections; furniture qualification; receipt of materials and components;

structural verification of marquises; metallic structures; masonry and

reinforced concrete structures and structured towers.

The department offers services such as technical inspections,

consulting and technical assistance to industries in order to develop new

products; to quality control of materials and equipments, calibration of strength

measurement devices, mechanics statistical and dynamical assays,

metallographic analysis and failure analysis.

The inspection of materials for sanitation (tubes, connections,

valves, pumps, sewage and water treatment stations) is also performed.

Processes Engineering

Research & Development of products and processes, consulting,

advisory and technical assistance to private companies and public entities in

order to support the growth, improvement and innovation of processes

primarily in the field of energy, environmental, chemistry and new

materials.

Pilot-plants:

- (Oxy)combustion and gasification (fluidized bed);

- Separation processes;

- Design of processes;

- Bench scale chemical reactors and applied kinetics.

The department conducts studies, research, assays and

consulting in the fields of Geology, Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Rocks

Mechanics and Applied Geophysics. It performs field and laboratorial

assays related to rocky and earthy materials, in addition to monitoring

seismic vibrations and indirect (field) investigations through geophysical

methods of refraction and electrical resistivity.

The department also offers quality assurance services to public

constructions primarily related to road transport and sanitation sectors.

Applied Geophysics

Different assays, tests and analysis related to construction

materials for quality control or development of novel materials are offered.

The department also does technical inspections in order to identify

and to diagnose pathologies in buildings. It works primarily with the

concrete and mortars technologies by conducting essays and experiments

for quality control, in addition to the development of concretes and mortars

with optimized properties.

Business Incubator – ITCientec

Startup companies have their own office space supplied with phone

and internet access and share a conference room, mechanical workshop, living

area and a conference room. There are up to 26 work spaces with 24/7 access.

Additional services offered by ITCientec to the startup companies

include: help with business basics and accounting/financial management and

discounted technological services provided by the laboratories from CIENTEC.

CIENTEC continuously invests in improving its human

potential and develops novel techniques.

Most of CIENTEC's Laboratories are accredited by INMETRO

(National Institute for Metrology, Quality and Tecnology) and also

recognized by the Rede Metrológica/RS (Metrological Network of the

State of Rio Grande do Sul). More than 700 assays or techniques are

currently accredited.
